Fast Fashion

...Introduction Fast fashion is no long a strange word for people. Originally, only traditional fashion exists in fashion industry. But then another trend, which researchers called it as “Fast Fashion”, rose up since 1990s. First of all, it’s necessary to know the difference between the traditional fashion and fast fashion. Traditional fashion always has two seasonal collections which are introduced to consumer market. The price of products is relatively higher than fast fashioned products. According to the article “What is Fast Fashion” from Sarah-Jane Rowland, who has written about fashion for 8 years, the definition is “The ephemeral nature of fashion ensures that what is in one minute is passé the next. Fast fashion, capitalizes on this need to keep pace with constantly changing trends by providing high fashion clothing at a low price point.” (What is Fast Fashion) We see that fast fashion introduces lots of new designs to people with a low price in each short period. But, the question is does fast fashion really provide benefits for people? The answer is no. In my research, I am going to analyze why fast fashion actually brings out bad impacts, and those bad impacts are related to money cost, immorality, and damage for natural environment. The reason that I choose the topic is because of its importance. Clothing industry is related to people’s daily life. Via the research, people may recognize what the real value this trend is since everyone has a value position in mind. ...

...Fast-Food and Obesity            Fast-food chain’s have been facing lawsuits in the last couple years like the one two New York teenagers filed against McDonald’s accusing it of failing to provide necessary  information about health risk associated with its meals. As many Americans consume Fast-food and spend more money in Fast-food restaurants and less in grocery stores, nutrition and health advocates have become concerned about American’s health and nutrition.  Knowing the number of calories and the amount of fat and salt in the Fast-food and knowing the dangerous effects of the Fast-food, people should decide which item are better choice to plan a convenient healthful diet and take action.         As Americans lives become more hectic they have less time to select, prepare and eat food, so they switch to plan B without any thinking. Fast-food attracts most American’s because they are widely available and inexpensive .Eric Schlosser has noted “That 70 percent of the fast food stopovers are “Impetuous” done with little thought at the tern of the moment”. These stopovers are overflowing with a high number of calories. These great numbers of calories consumed break the of energy balance where the calories taken in eating Fast-food are greater than the calories used during physical activities. This causes a serious problem which is obesity. As Surgeon General David Satcher pointed out, “People eat more calories … than they work off”.  The numbers of obese people have been...

...Case: Fast Food Feast The two fast food chains chosen for this assignment are McDonalds and Subway. The two fast food chains have been around for many years. McDonald’s is the older of the two and is the number one, thriving fast food chain in the world (McDonalds, 2013). It’s even a popular fast food chain globally and is known for them golden arches. Subway has been around for some time but it can be a healthier alternative to its counterpart. This store really became famous after a guy named Jared lost 245 pounds of weight due to lower fat contents diet that subs may contain (Subway, 2013). McDonald’s fast food chain takes in store orders and drive through orders. In some store they provide a 24 hour drive through window for customers, but it has a limited menu. During peak times the food is prepared ahead of time and under a heat lamp to keep food warm. They make the food slower at off peak hours, but the majority of the food is still pre-cooked. The customer orders their food, pay for the food, and then take a number for food receipt. This may take a few minutes during the rush. If you require a special order, that may delay your food by a few extra minutes because they have to make it to order. McDonald main side is the famous French fries, but now they are trying to be socially responsible so they offer salads on the menu. The happy meals, which are for children, now can provide milk and fresh apples that are packaged. They now serve lower calorie options on the menu...

Fast Food

...Fast food is affordable; being able to upsize a meal for a very minimal fee has made many our kids' gluttons indeed. Good healthful foods cost more money and take more time to prepare, for that reason, In our fast food society, it is often much easier to drive through a McDonald's than it is to cook a meal and eat it. Would you rather get a few vegetables from the market or a whole meal including: four tacos, a soda, and a hamburger for the same price? Fast food meals are not only convenient, they are often very cheap. The fact that fast food is cheap and quick is no coincidence. It is hard to avoid being drowned into the world of fast food. For instance, the ingredients on salty French fires dry you mouth out, so a large coke is necessary, too. As we can see, the fast food companies have everything so maliciously prepare, so we as the parents buy their products almost by instinct. Currently, with the strict economic times diner at fast food restaurant may even cost less than preparing dinner at home. Although, not all people think alike, some of them will probably dispute my claim arguing that we live in a busy life and that we are always on the go, but do not allow obesity to spread in your home. Take responsibility and change your life style in order for kids to have a healthier future. This is a valid reason to blame fast food chains for obesity. Unfortunately, cheaper foods are easier to acquire but they lack of nutritional values and are high in calories and fat. Controlling...

Fast Bowling

...DYING ART OF FAST BOWLING Fastest over ever bowled: Boycott@Barbados England had seen an extended summer in 1976. The Oval was parched, with no cloud cover, the pitch was a batting paradise. The great Viv Richards had scored an imperious 291 with West Indians declaring at 687 for 8. Holding's feet hardly touched the ground as he ran in. He moved in silkily and his body swayed like the cobra's. He was bowling with only one fielder in front of the wicket. He bowled and I moved back and across. I saw the ball pitched up, so I moved forward and then into the shot, before I knew the ball had smashed into my pad. The pain was so incredible that I thought I had been shot. This is how Bob Woolmer recalled his encounter with Michael Holding. Holding took an amazing 14 for 149 on a pitch that had nothing for assistance. He just bowled faster and faster. That was the era of famous Fast bowlers. The West Indian pace quartet, amazing Aussie duo of Lilliee and Thompson, celebrated all-rounders Kapil Dev, Imran Khan, Ian Botham and Richard Hadlee. Curtly Ambrose, Courtney Walsh, Ian Bishop, Pattrick Patterson, Craig McDermott, Waqar Younis, Wasim Akram, Devon Malcom Allan Donald, Shaun Pollock, Glenn McGrath took forward the mantle and made life of batsmen miserable all over the world for years. The last decade has seen the demise of quality fast bowlers, bowlers who can just blast batsmen out their presence with sheer pace. Shoaib Akhtar, Brett Lee, Andrew Flintoff and Shane Bond can...

...Negative Impacts of Fast Food America is one the countries that have the most oversize population in the world and every day one of four Americans visits fast food restaurants. Fast food is usually packed with fat, sugar and salt which make it so unhealthy. There are many different reasons people go to fast food restaurants rather than eating at home. People eat at fast food restaurant because it is convenient, cheap, tasty and quick. We no longer live in the good old days when women would stay home to cook, clean, and take care of the kids. Women have invaded the work industry by taking over jobs that in the past only men would have, and now share those jobs with men. Nowadays, most of the women are really busy to go for grocery shopping, come back home, unpack the food, and then cook it; so they prefer to go to fast food restaurant like McDonald’s. Many families are choosing fast food restaurants instead of fancy restaurants in this bad economy situation, because fancy restaurants charge much more money than fast food and people would rather eat at those places with family only on special occasions. However parents know that the fast food doesn’t have good nutrition balance for their children. In addition, some people who don’t have families and they live by themselves visit fast food because of their busy schedule. They are too busy to cook. In conservation with one of the poll on mid March, she says that she works full time and she goes to school part time, so she doesn’t...

McDonald’s, Burger King, and KFC are the first place that my mind would wander to when choosing a place to grab a meal to go. These three places are part of an industry that has been around for centuries. Fast food industries have been around for centuries. This type of system gave fast food industries the opportunity to employ workers who are willing to work on minimum wage. ...remain competitive in this low-margin, high-turnover industry. However, social media websites have evened the playing field in terms of marketing communications; they allow firms to efficiently communicate their message inexpensively. Initial capital outlay and fixed costs are low, encouraging new entrants (Datamonitor, 2012). Threat of Substitutions – Moderate Substitutes are readily available: food can be purchased almost anywhere, through foodservice or retail. However, convenience is the value-adding component of the service which reduces the threat of substitutes. Consumers can cook at home cheaply, but this lacks the convenience element which people require nowadays. Ready-meals are therefore a more substantial threat, competing with fast-food on price as well as convenience (Datamonitor, 2012). If you are ‘on-the-go’ however, without access to a microwave, QSRs are almost uncontested if you want a hot meal in a short timeframe. With many differentiated players...

Acid Fast Staining

...Acid-Fast Staining Acid-fast stain is a differential stain. More so, it is a physical property of certain bacteria, particularly a bacteria’s resistance to decolorization by certain acids during staining procedures. Most bacteria are decolorized by the use of acid-alcohol. However, the families of Mycobacteriaceae, Nocardiceae, Gordoniaceae, Dietziaceae, and Tsukamurellacea are acid fast. In 1882 acid fast staining was developed by Paul Ehrlich and was later successfully modified by Ziehl And Neelsen. Ehrlich first discovered that Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which is the main causing agent of tuberculosis, retained the primary stain given even after washing it with an acid-alcohol mixture. Acid fastness in the property of certain bacteria (mycobacterium), their structures (spores) or protozoa forms; resist the decolorization by weak mineral acids following staining by the use of an intense dye. The most commonly known acid fast staining technique is the Ziehl-Neelsen technique. The cell walls of acid-fast organisms contain a wax like lipid called mycolic acid. As a result the cell wall is relatively impermeable to ordinary staining techniques. They can be stained by aniline dyes using drastic measures such as application of heat and phenol. The heat softens the wax in the cell wall, allowing the stain to enter, which is a basic fuchsin. The fuchsin dye is more soluble in phenol than in water or alcohol. Phenol in turn is more soluble in lipids or waxes, thus...

Fast Food Nation

...The Fast Food Industry The last 50 years or so have been turbulent ones for America. Millions of “Rosies” may have quit riveting but they did not quit working, and the Civil Rights Movement resulted in fundamental changes in American society that have leveled the playing field for most workers today. A costly police action was fought in Korea that is still smoldering today, and the last vestiges of the Vietnam War were finally played out in the most recent presidential election. During the last 50 years or so, America succeeded in landing a man on the moon and safely returning him to the Earth, and winning a costly Cold War. During this turbulent period in U.S. history, life has become faster-paced and more women have joined the workforce, all of which have been to the detriment of “traditional” American family meals, but all of which has been to the enormous advantage to the fast food industry. People around the world today may criticize America’s politics, but the fact remains virtually everyone loves American fast food and the industry has become firmly established around the world. This paper provides an overview of the fast food industry from the 1950s to the present, an analysis of what social effects were caused by and reflected in the industry, what marketing and advertising changes have taken place in the industry during this time, followed by a discussion of current and future trends. A summary of the research is provided in the conclusion. Review and Discussion ...
