The study aimed at benefitting the English teachers, literature and second language learners, amateur writers and speakers, future researchers, and English major students. Further, the study used descriptive-analytical method. The instruments used in this study were the Handbook of 60 Rhetorical Devices and the Grammar Book by Murcia (2010). It likewise employed library search and trend analysis method. Findings of the study revealed that there were 30 rhetorical devices in the three short stories categorized as follows: on repetition, on construction, on addition, on omission, on resemblance, and under tropes. As president of the Wisconsin Specialty Products Division of Lamprey Inc., he knew quite well the challenge of dealing with high-cost labour in a third-generation, unionized U.S. manufacturing plant. And although he had done the analysis that led to his boss’s knee-jerk response, the call still stunned him. There were 520 people who made a living at Lamprey’s Oconomo facility, and if it closed, most of them wouldn’t have a journeyman’s prayer of finding another job in the town of 9,900 people. Instead of the $16-per-hour average wage paid at the Oconomo plant, the wages paid to the Mexican workers-who lived in a town without sanitation and with an unbelievable toxic runoff from industrial pollution-would amount to about $1.60 an hour on average. It occurred to a team of mental health professionals at the Brief Family Therapy Center that so much time and energy, as well as many resources, are spent on talking about problems, rather than thinking about what might help us to get to solutions that would bring on realistic, reasonable relief as quickly as possible.We discovered that problems do not happen all the time. Even the most chronic problems have periods or times when the difficulties do not occur or are less intense. By studying these times when problems are less severe or even absent, we discovered that people do many positive things that they are not fully aware of. By bringing these small successes into their awareness and repeating the successful things they do when the problem is less severe, people improve their lives and become more confident about themselves.And, of course, there is nothing like experiencing small successes to help a person become more hopeful about themselves and their life. ...Credit and Economic Recovery: Demystifying Phoenix Miracles∗ Michael Biggs Thomas Mayer March 15, 2010 Andreas Pick Abstract This paper offers a solution to the puzzle that economic activity recovers after a financial crisis without a rebound in credit. These credit-less recoveries, known as “Phoenix Miracles”, question the importance of credit. We argue that these recoveries appear credit-less because GDP is compared to the stock of credit. We show in a theoretical model that recoveries in GDP coincide with recoveries in the flow of credit and this can occur even as the stock of credit declines. Data from emerging and developed economies confirm this finding.
