...Little Snow-White Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm Once upon a time in midwinter, when the snowflakes were falling like feathers from heaven, a queen sat sewing at her window, which had a frame of black ebony wood. As she sewed she looked up at the snow and pricked her finger with her needle. Three drops of blood fell into the snow. The red on the white looked so beautiful that she thought to herself, "If only I had a child as white as snow, as red as blood, and as black as the wood in this frame." Soon afterward she had a little daughter who was as white as snow, as red as blood, and as black as ebony wood, and therefore they called her Little Snow-White. And as soon as the child was born, the queen died. A year later the king took himself another wife. She was a beautiful woman, but she was proud and arrogant, and she could not stand it if anyone might surpass her in beauty. She had a magic mirror. Every morning she stood before it, looked at herself, and said: Mirror, mirror, on the wall, Who in this land is fairest of all? To this the mirror answered: You, my queen, are fairest of all. Then she was satisfied, for she knew that the mirror spoke the truth. Snow-White grew up and became ever more beautiful. When she was seven years old she was as beautiful as the light of day, even more beautiful than the queen herself. One day when the queen asked her mirror: Mirror, mirror, on the wall, Who in this land is fairest of all? It answered: You, my queen, are fair; it is true. But Snow-White...

...Professor: Marcus Melton, CIA, CGFM, PMP Student: xxxxxxxxxxx Date: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx Introduction The purpose of this summary is to present the results of a cost comparison analysis of the Town of Belmont’s two options in providing snow plowing services: to replace six of their snow removal vehicles on a one-to-one basis; or to subcontract six more vehicles for snow plowing services. This summary will also explore some of the financial and non-financial implications of public service outsourcing versus keeping the service mainly in-house, specifically in relation to the snow plowing services for the Town of Belmont. The Results of the Financial Cost Analysis The results of the financial cost analysis are presented in Tables 1 to 4 in the Appendix and the reasoning behind the calculations and assumptions that led to the results are summarized at the end of the Appendix. The results of the cost analysis indicates that the cost of using the new and more efficient snow plowing vehicles (Walther Snow Fighters) would be approximately $896 per vehicle for one season, during conditions with more than three inches of snowfall. In those same conditions, the cost of subcontracting vehicles to carry out the snow plowing services would be approximately $1,264 per vehicle for one season, indicating a difference of approximately $368 (Refer to Table 4 in the Appendix). This does not take into effect the cost of purchasing the new vehicles, which...

...The poems are written by Lowell and Longfellow after they both have tragically lost a loved one. The theme of these poems are grief, death, and loss. Grief is shown in “The First Snowfall” when Lowell states “Flake by flake, healing and hiding/The scar of our deep-plunged woe.” (Lowell 31-32) Lowell is dealing with the death of his daughter and is still deeply scarred by her death, as he will be forever. Longfellow is dealing with the tragic death of his wife. In “The Cross of Snow,” grief is shown when Longfellow says “In the long, sleepless watches of the night,/ A gentle face--the face of one long dead--/Looks at me from the wall, where round its head/ The night-lamp casts a halo of pale light./ Here in this room she died, and soul more white.” (Longfellow 1-5) Longfellow is kept awake with the never-ending feeling of grief and the thought of his wife’s death. He will always remember where she died, and his soul will never be at rest. Lowell and Longfellow use the nature of snow as having healing powers. At the ends of both poems the snow symbolizes eternal love. “The First Snowfall” uses the first snowfall of the season and “The Cross of Snow” uses snow that has settled deep in the ravines in the sides of a mountain. The snow forms a natural cross in the snow that can be seen from afar when the sun shines upon the mountain a certain...

Once snow leopards are pregnant their babies stay in the womb around 100 days and the liter sizes range from 1 to 5 cubs. III. The respiratory system of snow leopards relies on the diaphragm to expand and oxygen is rushed in, then contract to push out what is remaining (mainly carbon dioxide). A unique characteristic about the snow leopard is its thick white fur. This fur helps the snow leopard hunt and keeps it warm during harsh winters. IV. It is believed that snow leopards, tigers, jaguars, leopards and lions belong to the Panthera class and all were similar evolving around the same time; however the snow leopards and tigers are may closer related to each other, while leopards, lions, and jaguars are closer to each other. Days later, Miss Clavel and the girls went to visit Madeline in the hospital. Madeline showed everyone the scar on her belly, and all of the girls became very jealous of her. That night, all of the girls woke up Miss Clavel because they were all crying because they also wanted to get their appendix out and to get a scar across their stomachs. “She was not afraid of mice – she loved winter, snow, and ice. To the tigers in the zoo Madeline just said, ‘Pooh-pooh,’ and nobody knew so well how to frighten Miss Clavel”(Bemelmans 13-15). The theme of this book is bravery. ...Mark Rogers Best Ski Day I was the first person to ski off of the chairlift that day, arriving at the summit of Bosquets Mountain, nestled in the heart of the Berkshires. It was the type of day when the clouds seemed to blanket the sky, leaving no clue that the sun, with its powerful light, even existed anymore. It was not snowing, but judging by the damp, musty, stale scent in the air, I realized it would be only a short time before the white flakes overtook the mountain. As I readied myself to make the first run, I took a moment to appreciate my surroundings. Somehow things seemed much different up here. The wind, nonexistent at the bottom, began to gust. Its cold bite found my nose. Its quick and sudden swirling movement kicked loose snow into my face, forcing me to zip my jacket over my chin. It's strange how the gray clouds, which seemed so far above me at the bottom, really didn't appear that high anymore. If I had a tall enough ladder, I might be able to touch them. As I gazed out over the landscape, the city below seemed unrecognizable. The enormous buildings which I had driven past earlier looked like dollhouses a child might play with. The towering smokestacks of the factories would not have caught my eye had it not been for the tiny stream of gray emerging from them. At this distance, the smoke spiraled upward like tree branches reaching for the sky. The air was raw and stung me through my many layers of clothing. There was snow all around me. It was on the trail...

...the narrator. It all began last Tuesday when this guy named Ryan met a beautiful girl walking along the pier. I know this just sounds so romantic right? Trust me it gets better. This beautiful girl, well, she didn’t have a name, but let me tell you she was one beautiful person. Ryan, being the typical guy who thinks he’s hotter than the sun and that every girl should bow down in his presence, chased this girl all day long using every pick up line he’d ever heard. Here’s the catch my friends. This girl, wasn’t just any girl, she was Ursula, the evil sea witch. This is where that gloomy music that sounds like “dun dun dun” is played right? Anyway, Ursula saw right through this superficial man and put a spell on him that split him into seven little men that represented his traits and characteristics. Ryan was no longer Ryan, in fact he was now Studly, Jockey, Druggy, Dummy, Lusty, Nerdy and Giant. I didn’t pick the names so don’t blame me. Ursula told these seven little men that the only way she would restore them into one was if they mined for her every day and brought her 2 million dollars in gold. Don’t be fooled though, this wasn’t really the real deal, Ursula is just a gold digger. And with all of this in mind, the seven dwarfs were born, kind of. After being strangely split into seven little men, what used to be Ryan, found shelter in the privacy of a very large tree stump. I personally would never want to live there, but...
