If the world was in the process of getting taken over by “Flesh-Eating Ghouls” how would the governments of different states react?1 Daniels W. Drezner tries to explain all of the possibilities that could happen in his book Theories of International Politics and Zombies. By explaining each belief, he explains the pros and cons of each and then ends the book by challenging the reader as to what idea is best. If the world were to be taken over by zombies, I believe that the states would interact with each other in an neoconservative manner, because of the ability of democracies to band together and to solve the issue quickly.
In Drezner’s introduction, he quickly addresses that zombies have become more and more popular in modern times. He then talks about the literature of zombies and about the fields that have delved into the study of zombies such as; humanities, philosophy, natural sciences, etc., but he notes that International Relations lacks in study of zombies. He states that liberals believe that there can still be cooperation between states even with anarchy in the world. He explains that they look at world politics as a “non-zero-sum game.”5 Drezner states, “Major actors in world politics therefore have an incentive to realize the benefits that come from long-term mutual cooperation and avoid the costs that come with mutual defection.”6 He says cooperating with zombies could never happen since liberals compare zombies to other harmful issues “such as money laundering or food-borne diseases.”7 Liberals suggest the “counter-zombie regime complex” as a way to resolve the zombie
