...After a short six years of torment from his genius older brother Peter, and love from his genius older sister Valentine, Ender is recruited into the army after passing tests, and quickly rises to the top of the class. Loved and hated by other students at Battle School, Ender is isolated by his success, in the games that the students play, and by his teachers treatment of his excellence. The adults do not give him the chance to settle in and find a peer group instead they push him with such urgency that they are willing to break the entire Battle School system down. Colonel Graff, the one who found and groomed Ender, runs Battle School and risks his reputation, and humanity's existence, on his strong belief that Ender is the one who can defeat the Buggers. Battle School consists of games. there is a Fantasy Game, a game room (like an arcade), and the battle room, where war games are played in zero gravity. The battle room plays a key role in Battle School, and students often get so caught up in the game that they seldom realize that they're at the school to defeat the Buggers. One such student, Bonzo Madrid, comes to hate Ender, and Bonzo plans to kill him. Ender's excellence pulls through in battle after battle, despite being given a green army and the most intense schedule ever given an army. Bonzo's rage turns murderous, and they fight in the...

...How could an individual possibly find a comparison between an adolescent responsible for the mass genocide of an entire enemy race, to a messiah whom came to save the world through peace? It is not difficult, as one might assume upon being asked this question. Knowledge of the intentions, circumstances, and the background of a certain figure would help determine the differences and similarities between two people who would appear to be complete opposites. Ender Wiggins from the book Ender’s Game written by Orson Scott Card, displays a parallel to following Christ-like way through his journey, which can be confirmed through The Monomyth, Joseph Campbell’s 17 stages of “The Hero’s Journey”. Not only is Ender proved to be a Christ-like figure through a heroic journey in the novel; however, Ender’s demonstrates sacrifice; by...

...not spy on its own citizens and make decisions for them. This was actually the philosophy that the nation was based off, the Americans were tired of the British government controlling their lives, so they broke free and found the United States of America. But in today’s technologically advancing information age, the question is severely complicated with inventions like the Global Positions System, the World Wide Web, computer chips, the cellular telephone, etc. Of course, there are laws to regulate surveillance on these devices, but the invention of new technologies is passing these laws. As complicated as the question gets, I believe that the government is justified to immerse itself into the private lives and decisions of its citizens for a multitude of reasons. First, government surveillance practices can save lives, put criminals behind bars, or even find missing people, which definitely warrants the need for cellular surveillance. Another example of this justification is that measures like pat downs, body scanners, luggage scanners, and security guards at airports may be inconvenient for the passengers seeking to get on the plane, but will greatly increase the preservation of live on commercial aircraft. The last example to support this argument is in Ender’s Game. Ender had finally realized that the administrators and staff at Battle School controlled...

...Reflection Paragraph Ender’s Shadow : 1 In the novel Ender’s Shadow, by Orson Scott Card I can reflect in the beginning that Bean is a tough kid that has learned quite quickly. He picked things up from the streets and learned how to not get bullied a lot and to stay away from certain people. He learned the essentials of living on the streets in a cruel world where nothing is nice and everyone is competitive. In the start he was about to die of starvation. He had mentally strengthened himself to survive. He chose to help Poke, because she looked stupid enough to believe whatever he said. But Poke came out to be even dumber than that and chose Achilles as the bully. This was her biggest mistake. Bean warned her, “"Kill him," said Bean. "If you don't kill him now, he's going to kill you." (10). Bean knew he was trouble because he looked smart, even with his gimp leg. Achilles was a cruel killer from heart and would do anything to win. Achilles was a thinker and knew what steps he should take to take control of Poke’s crew. He slowly persuaded everyone...

...CHAPTER 4 Focusing Marketing Strategy with Segmentation and Positioning These days Nintendo rides high in the video game world. Its DS handheld game, Wii (pronounced “we”) console, and games with characters like Mario and Zelda sell millions of units. The key to Nintendo’s success comes from meeting the entertainment needs of different groups of customers. Back in the 1980s, Nintendo was a 100-year-old Japanese manufacturer of toys and playing cards. If Nintendo managers had continued to just think about the “toy market,” the firm probably wouldn’t even be around now. Instead, they saw profitable new opportunities in the broader “entertainment seekers market.” In 1985, they released the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and interactive video games such as Super Mario Brothers. In those early days, video game consoles and software from different producers were quite similar. Even so, Nintendo’s NES stood out as offering better value. And Nintendo’s profits took off because once a household owned a NES console, it qualified as a prime target for new Nintendo games. As the market evolved, Nintendo developed more new products focusing on the needs of different groups of customers. In the 1990s, its popular handheld system, Game Boy, successfully delivered portable fun to kids. Another group of customers, the “hard-core gamers,” played complex and realistic games requiring consoles with high-speed processors and better graphics, so Nintendo offered them its GameCube console. But...
