...Cosi “The Australian drama Cosi, and its themes, is a reflection of the characters’ immediate world, as well as the world at large. Explain this statement with reference to the text.” The Play Cosi, written by playwright Louis Nowra, is about members from a mental institution, who with the help of the protagonist Lewis are presenting an opera called ‘Cosi Fan Tutte.’ The opera tells the story of two officers, who pretend to leave for war to test the fidelity of their lovers. The themes of madness, attitude towards the mentally ill, transformations and growth and fidelity and love are portrayed through the conventions and techniques of symbolism, play within a play, setting and characters. Readers are positioned to respond to the immediate world and the world at large with complete madness, as it seems the world at large is a world apart from society. The play explores the theme of madness through the convention of setting. The idea of an inside world and outside world is shown through the symbolism and paranoia of society. The dark, derelict burnt out theatre is a metaphor for the world at large, and the drama that is enacted on its charred surface is a reflection of the larger dramas taking place outside. The outside world is noticed to have fear about the spread of communism, the mass casualties and the war crimes, for example the massacre of civilians, the torture of people and the rape. Readers respond to the absolute madness at times with confusion, as it’s hard...

...23 September 2015 Risks Worth Taking? A Reflection on the Effects of Memoirs The primary purpose of my research paper is to present a cross-section of the current conversations taking place around the way memoirs affect the writers who publish them. Based on my research, it appears that the effects tend to involve emotional and psychological consequences, as well as legal troubles in some instances. The discovery of this conversation helped me to refine my research topic into the question, “Do the benefits of publishing a memoir outweigh the risks of their effects for writers?” This research explores the positive and negative effects of memoirs on their writers to determine whether or not the risks are worth the rewards. Although writing a memoir can result in lawsuits and family discord, it more often proves to be therapeutic and can be the starting point of a nonfiction writer's career. What if I told you that memoirs are incredibly important to our society, because they document the human experience in such an honest way? Although they are valuable, they can also be risky. One key issue is that a memoir’s admissions risk causing major drama for writers, including legal trouble. In addition, they can be a catalyst for burning bridges with former employees. They can also potentially destroy long-term personal relationships. In this paper, I work to discover if it is worth all the drama to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. As I began my research...

...Building Better Houses in Minecraft Building, the task is easy but making your builds look “nicer” is on a different skill level. Building in minecraft is important because it shows people you can do things other than kill animals and fight monsters. Most people play minecraft to kill and survive as long as they can, you can’t do this without a house/base to take safety in. You want to have a good base, not a cube that nobody will hesitate to attack. Are you bad at building? Well, I have good news for you, these are some simple tips to improve your builds. First of all, plan ahead, this can help you get the idea of the house you want to build and for future renovations. A floor plan is a great thing to begin with, you don’t get confused while building and you always have the picture of what the house will look like. Don’t forget to save your game after you set the floor plan, just in case your game freezes and you can’t remember...

...In the summer of 2010 leading into my junior of year of high school my mother and I had a lot of altercations. We kept having disagreements about what time I came into the house at night, me always having company, and me never cleaning up my room. My mother and I weren’t the only ones having this disagreement. I had four cousins who were having the same exact debates with their mothers, who were my aunts. My mother and Aunts all sat down and discussed the matter. They came up the solution of us having our own apartment. When they brought the idea to us five we all agreed that it were a great plan. Us having our own apartment meant that we could do what we wanted when we wanted without our mothers nagging us about every little thing. We knew we were going to have fun, but we also knew we had responsibilities that had to be taken care of. We all agreed to do our part and chip in where we were needed. It was time to prove to our mothers we were old enough and mature enough to be on our own and make the right decisions. Frenchie, Dj, Crap, Jamarcus, and I moved in on July 21, 2010. We were going to be staying in Hill Top Apartments, apartment 312. The apartment had 3 rooms, 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen, and a living area. Since Dj was the oldest he got a room to himself. Jamarcus and I shared a room and Frenchie and Crap shared the other. We had two cars amongst us, mines and Jamarcus’s. Since we were on our own we tried to save as much money as possible so we always...

...http://maaketingu.blogspot.com/2011/12/even-ikea-can-fail.html In 1974, Swedish giant IKEA decided to enter Japanese market with a local partner. It failed to win Japanese consumers' heart and withdrew in 1986. But their second attempt in 2006 is a success story. Let's see why. Story of Failure One of the most characteristic features of IKEA is "Assemble Yourself" philosophy which reduces costs and results in low prices. Even their marketing statement is: “Your partner in better living. We do our part, you do yours. Together we save money.” Another characteristic feature of IKEA is its standardized product range which changes only 10% in different countries, in other words 90% of its product range is almost the same all over the world. When they entered to Japanese market in 1974, they have only been in 4 other European countries yet. This was their first attempt outside Europe and although they lacked experience, they were quite sure that IKEA's unique philosophy would work well everywhere. They didn't think that any deep consumer insight would be necessary. They opened a relatively small shop in Tokyo without changing their product range and applying the same strategy such as "Assemble Yourself" as in Europe. | Those old good days.. | Here are the two main factors why IKEA Japan failed on its first attempt: 1. Consumer Service: First of all, for Japanese consumers the quality of service is very important. When you go into a barbershop or a...

...By taking away social interaction from the normal routine of life, people become uncomfortable around one another, leading to awkward, infrequent gatherings. “Mrs. Phelps and Mrs. Bowles came through the front door and vanished into the volcano’s mouth [the parlor] with martinis in their hands… he saw their Cheshire smiles burning through the walls of the house, and now they were screaming at each other above the din.” (Bradbury 89). The absence of the items also takes away contact with nature from society. “‘Bet I know something else you don’t. There’s dew on the grass in the morning.’ He suddenly couldn’t remember if he had known this or not, and it made him quite irritable.” (Bradbury 7). Montag’s society is devoid of time and leisure to think, everything instantly thrown at you in a giant mass of information, nothing lasting in depth or for more than a short episode. “‘But with all my knowledge and skepticism, I have never been able to argue with a one-hundred-piece-symphony orchestra, full color, three dimensions, and being in and part of those incredible parlors.’” (Bradbury 80). The effect...

...A Good Night’s Sleep It’s a short story written by Brian McCabe about a teacher called Lockhart, who lives on third floor of a tenement building in Edinburgh. He is an insomniac, which is sleeplessness, that’s one problem, but what makes the problem even worse is that his neighbors make a lot of noise, especially the old man from the apartment upstairs and the couple that lives next to him. One night he cannot fall asleep, because he as mentioned before is an insomniac, and then he hears something bumping softly against his door. He is lying, thinking about lots of stuff that night, for example is he thinking about the time where he was young and was going to parties and having fun, and then he’s having troubles figuring out a subject for the nxt mornings discussion with his class. Later that night he walked out to check what it was that was making the noise against his door, and found out that a homeless girl was sitting in his staircase. He talked with her, and asked her to sleep in his son’s bed, but she refused. Later that night came his neighbor couple home from a pub or something, and then they kicked her out of the staircase. Later Lockhart lay in his bed, and could not stop thinking about her, and then he suddenly heard the noise again and knew she was there. The story takes place in Lockharts apartment, and in the staircase outside his apartment in Edinburgh, late at night. Lockhart, the main character is an average man living a almost normal life. He has an apartment...

... Moore Housing Contractors is negotiating a deal with Country Realtors to build six houses in a new development. Countryside wants Moore Contractors to start in late winter or early spring when the weather begins to moderate and build on through the summer into fall. The summer months are an especially busy time for the realty company, and it believes it can sell the houses almost as soon as they are ready, and sometimes even before. The houses all have similar floor plans and are of approximately equal size; only the exteriors are noticeable different. The completion time is so critical for Countryside Realtors that they are insisting that a project management network accompany the contractor’s bid for the job with an estimate of the completion time for a house. The realtor also needs to be able to plan its offerings and marketing for the summer. They want each house to be completed within 45 days after it is started. If a house is not completed within the time frame they want to be able to charge the contractor a penalty. Mary and Sandy Moore, the president and vice-president, respectively, of Moore Contractors, are concerned about the prospects of a penalty charge. They want to be very confident that they can meet the deadline for a house before they enter into any kind of agreement with a penalty involved. (If there is a reasonable likelihood that they cannot finish a house within a 45 days they want to increase their bid to cover potential penalty charges.) ...

...Hamilton Hotel stands its ground in South Laredo, Downtown at an appalling twelve stories high. The hotels prominent location, stylistic beauty, and the community’s determination to keep it preserved uphold the building to a high degree of architectural and historical integrity. Taking a walk through downtown, towards the esteemed Hamilton hotel is as if taking a stroll through history. Right across from the hotel is a pharmacy and a neighboring building that are only a few years younger. On the front, right corner, lays the Jarvis plaza and on its left is the U.S. Post Office/ Court House edifice. The Hamilton hotel is situated smack in the middle of all these historical landmarks. The favorable route is through the Jarvis Plaza and the U.S. Post Office/Court House. It is two o’clock in the afternoon and the sun is out with no mercy, but the green-leafed, willowed trees surrounding the court house provide a sufficient amount of shade. There’s very little commotion. No yelling or running, only pedestrians sitting on benches and taking in the pretty view. At the end of the pathway, on its right, is a sign reminding everyone to cross only at the cross walks. On the left of the pathway, is a fire hydrant whose red paint is chipping off and is leaving an uncovered patchwork of yellow. More significant is the Hamilton hotel at the front of the path. The hotel features a Spanish Renaissance Revival...

...Mental Health Experience Mental Health can be defined as a state of emotional and psychological well being in which an individual is able to use his or her cognitive and emotional capabilities, function in society and meet the ordinary demands of everyday life. (The American Heritage Dictionary. 2009) With that being said, as nurses, we work with many mental health patients. Working in home health has given me the opportunity to work closely in the home of some very “mental” patients. One in particular is M.M. She is a 62-year-old female that lives in a low-income apartment in Harriman, TN. She has been diagnosed with depression and schizophrenia. She attends Ridgeview outpatient clinic weekly and gets all of her medications thru them. The nurse at the outpatient clinic sets up her medications in zip lock bags for three times a day, dosage and labels each individually morning, noon and night and the dates as well. I was called in to perform lab work and to provide educational teaching regarding the medications and to monitor if the meds were being taken right. My first call to the patient was to introduce myself and inform her that I would be coming to visit her and what time I would be there. When I arrived at her apartment she was waiting for me in a chair outside of the building. She led me to her apartment and was fairly quite at first. Her apartment was small but very clean. She was very proud of her apartment and showed me around. I explained to her what I...

...March 10 2014 Living in a house is far better than living in an apartment Living in a house opens up doors that are not available in an apartment. One advantage is the choice of people I have to interact with. When I lived in an apartment just to take the trash out I would have to put on shoulder pads and mow down 8 kids just to get there. As opposed to in my home I don’t have to leave if I choose not to. I am fully independent with all my amenities at my fingertips. Another perk is the space we have as opposed to in an apartment, I was forced to share a wall with someone so if I chose to have company or play my music there would be an overweight security guard knocking on my door hassling me to turn it down. By owning my own home now I sort of feel like my own boss in the sense that I am not regulated by the manager of an apartment. The only rules I have to abide by are my own. I also feel overall safer with my family, and the environment is much more peaceful to relax in. Where as in my apartment I felt if I wanted time outside it would take a pair of head phones and a blindfold to relax. I guess the best thing about a home is coming home at night and not having to to see a bunch of people who have their own agenda and could care less if I had a long day or that I just want to get ton my parking spot that has more than likely occupied by someone else while as in my house I pull in my garage and I’m done. Now don’t get me wrong I understand...

...Applicable Housing in China Abstract The paper is about the research of applicable housing in China. It explains the definition of the applicable housing. There are some data of the research and the main problems that this kind of house meet in China at present. I also will talk about my opinion about whether applicable housing should be continued and how to make the applicable housing really help the low-income families. Applicable Housing is very special in Chinese real estate transactions. It is a government policy that provides the low-income families a house in a low price so that everyone can live in their own house. It began in 1994. It means as the development of Chinese real estate economy, there are still some Chinese can’t buy houses even though more and more Chinese can afford to buy their own house. Wealth is not evenly distributed in China. As one online dictionary said, establishing the housing supply system mainly with the economical and applicable housing was fit for the market economy of socialist and current circumstance of China. The target of applicable housing is very good. But the fact is that it works not very well. Some real estate developers haven’t built and sold the building that meet the standards of Applicable Housing while they enjoy the treatment of this government policy. As the result, here comes many problems, such as the price is much higher, the buyer is not the poor and so on. Here are some data from the research about applicable...
