Winter has been mild so far this year, but pretty soon the cold will arrive. Before the cold really arrives, you need to winterize your garage door and get it ready. Here are four steps you need to take to get your garage ready for winter.

Replace Weatherstripping

Your garage door has a weatherstrip that goes around the outside edge. It creates a seal with your garage door and your garage. Weatherstrips do not last forever; eventually them crack and become brittle. When this happens, air is able to get around your door and into your garage.

If your weatherstrip is cracked and brittle, you need to replace it. You'll need to use a pry bar to pull of the weather strip. Then, go behind and use a putty knife to remove any remaining putty and …show more content…
There are many ways you can add insulation to your garage door. You can use fiberglass batt insulation, foam boards or reflective barriers.

If your garage door does not have insulation, you'll have to measure the space and cut the insulation to size. You'll need to adhere it to your garage door using tape or glue.

Adding insulation will help keep your garage warm in the winter and cooler in the summer months.

Insulate The Garage Walls

After you insulate your garage door, you should also insulate your garage walls. Insulating your garage walls will help keep your garage warmer.

You can use fiberglass batt insulation on your garage walls. You can install it yourself or hire a contractor to do so. If you choose to install it yourself, you'll want to make sure that it fits snuggly. If it is too large or small for the space, it will not fit effectively. You also need to make sure that it is securely attached to the walls; be sure to use the adhesive recommended by the manufacture with the insulation.

If you don't want your garage to be a freezing ice-box this winter, you need to make sure that your weatherstripping is in tact and you need to insulate your garage door and walls. This will help keep your garage warm and safe all winter

...When you manually open your garage door, you've probably noticed the door's lightness. This is an illusion because the garage door spring is holding up the door. You are only providing a small extra force to move it upward. If the spring wasn't there, you would have to lift the door's full weight, which can be one hundred to two hundred pounds. The garage door spring therefore, is under tremendous tension/torsion when the door is closed. It is this tension that makes a DIY replacement of a broken garage door spring a dangerous undertaking. While you could do a lot of research based on videos or blogs made by people of questionable expertise, and then use painstaking care and thoughtfulness in doing the job yourself, it's not a practical skill...

...argued that his graffiti art done at a number of spots including a garage door was art as opposed to willful damage. As the owner of a garage door that has been visited by graffiti artists more than once, you may beg to differ with his argument. Whether it has been done on a residential or commercial property, garage door graffiti is unsightly and it lowers the curbside appeal of your building. So what is the best way to remove graffiti from your garage door once it appears? Solvent Cleaning For Wood Doors The key to getting graffiti off successfully is to act quickly. The longer the graffiti paint is on the door, the more the paint molecule will blend into the existing paint, and this makes it harder to remove. Graffiti removal should begin the day it is discovered as even a couple of days to curing can make the paint soak deep into the fibres of the wood. Solvent is a product you can buy at your local...

Research Narrative- Kurt Cobain

...Brittany Peters Instructor Wenrich Eng. 121 7 June 2015 Research Narrative “Okay, so I get to wake up today and have another day he doesn’t.”- Dave Grohl, band member of Nirvana What would music have been like in the 1990s without Kurt Cobain? Or maybe the question to ask is, “What would music be like today if Kurt Cobain was alive?” The grunge movement was brought to life by the front man of the band Nirvana, Kurt Cobain (Kurt and Courtney). He was what most believed to be an iconic man in the 1990s for the music genre known as alternative rock/grunge. Kurt Cobain passed away on April 5th, 1994, in his home, when he was only 27 years old (“April 05”). He recently started a family with his wife Courtney Love, who was also a musician in a band called Hole (Kurt and Courtney). Kurt was in and out of rehabilitation centers for his drug addiction, and soon before his death had, what people considered at the time, an accidental overdose in Rome. The day his corpse was found an electrician reports his findings. The police and fire department arrive. Pictures are taken of the scene, and then handed to detectives to enhance the report of the incident that took place on the street of Lake Washington Boulevard. As news spreads of the musician’s tragedy fans gather at his house and a memorial service is performed in his honor (Kurt and Courtney). I now tell you the story of how and when Kurt Donald Cobain’s body was found. An electrician, Gary Smith, from the company Veca Electric...

...employer and the contractor. This has made it quite imperative for contracting parties to analyse project delays for purposes of making right decisions on potential time and/or cost compensation claims. Over the years, existing delay analysis techniques (DATs) for aiding this decision-making have been helpful but have not succeeded in curbing the high incidence of disputes associated with delay claims resolutions. A major source of the disputes lies with the limitations and capabilities of the techniques in their practical use. Developing a good knowledge of these aspects of the techniques is of paramount importance in understanding the real problematic issues involved and their improvement needs. This paper seeks to develop such knowledge and understanding (as part of a wider research work) via: an evaluation of the most common DATs based on a case study, a review of the key relevant issues often not addressed by the techniques, and the necessary improvements needs. The evaluation confirmed that the various techniques yield different analysis results for the same delay claims scenario, mainly due to their unique application procedures. The issues that are often ignored in the analysis but would also affect delay analysis results are:...

This article surveys the main current and emerging solutions that are suitable for WHANs, including ZigBee, Z-Wave, INSTEON, Wavenis, and IP-based technology. INTRODUCTION In recent years, wireless sensor and actuator networks have gained high momentum, receiving significant attention from academia, industry, and standards development organizations. One of the primary application domains of this technology is home automation. Wireless home automation networks (WHANs) enable monitoring and control applications for home user comfort and efficient home management. A WHAN typically comprises several types of severely constrained embedded devices, which may be battery powered and are equipped with low-power radio frequency (RF) transceivers. The use of RF communication allows flexible addition or removal of devices to or from the network and reduces installation costs since wired solutions require conduits or cable trays. However, the dynamics of radio propagation, resource limitations, and the mobility of some devices...

...Table of Contents Executive Summary I. Brief Biography of Steve Jobs II. Steve Jobs and Apple III. Ethics and Values IV. Death of Steve Jobs V. Conclusion VI. References Executive Summary Steve Jobs has been labeled a visionary by many, and rightfully so. Though he may not be the tech celebrity that he once was, nor is his name any longer so strongly associated with the basic, commonplace components of software and hardware design that he helped to pioneer and that computer users the world over take for granted, the charismatic, passionately counterculture chief executive officer of Apple Computer was once the most important individual in Silicon Valley and even today dictates the trends and, some would say, overall health of the industry, continuing to drive innovation. I. Brief Biography of Steve jobs Steve Jobs is a great man so the rules don’t apply, is how Steve Jobs is described at the beginning of his career at Apple computer. From his early childhood, he was always thought of as an oddball or different. From Steve Jobs rise to power, to his fall, and to his second coming, Steve Jobs has always been different. Steven Paul Jobs was born an orphan on February 24, 1955 in Los Altos, California. Zero Energy Buildings

...major contributors for greenhouse gases. Hence, with the intention of reducing the energy usage which reduces the environmental pollution energy efficient measures have been introduced. The goal of these measures is to decrease the energy use of the building substantially and provide the building's energy needs with on-site renewable energy supply like Photovoltaics. This results in a concept called Net zero energy buildings or Zero Energy Buildings. Zero energy building (ZEB) is a building with zero energy consumption i.e., it consumes only the amount of energy generated by the renewable power on the building site. NZEBs produce zero carbon emissions annually as various renewable energy technologies are deployed on the building site. This paper addresses the energy efficient measures that can be implemented to cut down the power consumption. The energy efficient features implemented in ZEBs for energy savings is justified with a case study. I. INTRODUCTION The environmental effects that Carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions across countries at different levels of development received global attention on what has been done to mitigate these emissions. The continued growth of global emissions of carbon dioxide due to energy consumption and their adverse effects on global warming forces the world to save the environment from further damage. As per EPA in 2011, the combustion of fuels to electrify the homes, buildings and industry in U.S. accounted to 38%...

Risk Assesment

...task. Their role is to advise their company of any potential risks that might exist within the organization, its employees, customers, and even its reputation. A risk managers job tasks depend on the industry in which they work in, and the level at which they are working at. Their major job duties are to identify and assess hazards, put safety plans in place, and determine how to avoid, reduce, or eliminate the risks altogether. That is why in the 1970’s the “Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) established three permanent federal agencies to help with accessing such issues. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to set and enforce standards, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health to conduct research on workplace hazards, and the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission (OSHRC) to referee any workplace challenges” (Matthews, P.2011). These three departments were established to set guidelines by which companies both large and small, could follow to minimize the potential risks within the workplace. At my place of employment, Generator Services, we do have a Risk Assessment Plan that observes a safe and healthy work environment for employees, managers, contractors, and visitors. We are a distributor of generators ranging in size from 5 kW (kilowatt) to 2000 kW (kilowatt) which is a mega size generator, that is big enough to run a hospital. ...The Coffee Shop: Social and Physical factors Influencing Place Attachment Lisa Waxman, Ph.D., Florida State University aBstract This study explored the characteristics that encourage gathering behavior and contribute to place attachment in selected coffee shops in the context of literature suggesting social gathering places contribute to social capital. These gathering places, with the potential to enhance community in this manner, have been called third places. The study was qualitative in nature and included the research techniques of visual documentation, observation and behavioral mapping, interview, and survey. A transactional approach to this study was chosen to better understand the meaning of the person-environment relationship. Each coffee shop was observed for twenty-five hours for a total of seventy-five hours. Eighteen interviews were conducted and surveys were collected from 94 patrons to reveal patron attitudes toward the physical and social aspects of the coffee shop as well as their feelings regarding the community in which they live. The key findings regarding the physical characteristics showed the top five design considerations included: cleanliness, appealing aroma, adequate lighting, comfortable furniture, and a view to the outside. A number of themes emerged related to people, their activities, and their feelings and attitudes regarding the coffee shop.
