...Brian Morgan James.Neiman CIS 111 Benefits of a Database and Information-Gathering Techniques April 28, 2012 Benefits of a Database and Information-Gathering Techniques Database: Database is the collection of data or information, so that it can be easily fetched, managed and update. In database data or information is stored in the forms of tables. Each table in a database has it unique name and table duplication is not allowed. Example of database: Oracle 10g, MySQL, SQL Server, IBM DB2 etc. DBMS terms refer to the database management system. A database management system (DBMS) is a collection of software application package with some computer programs that are used to store, create, fetch, modify and extract the information from the database. Each DBMS system has some set of rules and pre-defined paradigm on which each database is working. There are many different types of DBMSs, ranging from small systems that run on personal computers to huge systems that run on mainframes or Solaris servers. Some of the example of DBMS is 1.> Air lines flight management system. 2.> Employee’s payroll management system for an organization. 3.> Inventory management system for warehouse operations. 4.> Student management system for Schools and Colleges. Advantages of DBMS 1.> It reduces the data redundancy (duplicate data in the database). 2.> Scalable: DBMS systems are highly scalable i.e. these systems can be scaled to store more data as required in...

...Running head: BENEFITS OF A DATABASE AND INFORMATION-GATHERING Benefits of a Database and Information-Gathering Techniques Benefits of a Database and Information-Gathering Techniques Hello Mr. ACME Global Consulting interviewing person, I'm Alucard Lazarus, it's a pleasure to meet you. I can offer over a hundred years of experience in consulting, managing employees, customer logistics, and excellent database management system or DBMS knowledge. All of which should make me the ultimate candidate for your organization. Let me explain to you how I can improve upon the current schema for the company’s new restaurant using DBMS. First of all let me explain what I know is DBMS; it’s software that allows data to be manipulated, stored, and retrieved from the data stored which can be accessed by multiple users. The application programs used for those operations are Microsoft Access, SQL Server, and Oracle. The advantages of a DBMS are maintaining what terms are used to search by therefore making searches quick and easy, keeps control of data redundancy (it’s a process from 1NF to 2NF to 3NF), information security feature with keeping those that require certain access to data, has the automatic functions necessary to save and recall data for back up recovery, it makes sure that data can be accessed through any application that the company will use, there are different interfaces for users to get to the data that they need to get to, and it uses whatever rules that the company...

...company in a variety of product markets. It is important as a company looks for changing the software development for the company that analysis the current infrastructure of data must be gone over and options to change the current system. First there needs to be information gathering techniques and systems analysis tools that will assist in sorting out certain key documents. Working with cases, process models and data models the purpose of this phase of development is to create a system proposal outlining the requirements and a work plan. How to gather this information is going to be split up amongst system documentation, interviews, questionnaire’s, and work based observation. Making sure that these information gathering techniques are collecting the required information on the project is vital. Last going over project scope and why it is important that a common understanding of the project scope is important among stakeholders. Looking at all of these topics will educate on proper analysis of a project. It is important to begin with information gathering techniques and the ways this will need to be gathered. An important part of the data that can be gathered is Data Flow Diagrams. “DFD is a technique that diagrams the business processes and the data that pass among them.” (Systems 153) It is important that this data reflect the processes or activities performed by the current system. For example, information on the current network diagram show how the different locations...

...into the HR departments in the different Riordan Manufacturing locations. This service request will highlight several topics. The main topics that will be discussed are, who are the company’s stakeholders that information will be gathered from for requirements. What type of information-gathering techniques and systems analysis tools are to be used and or proposed to aid in the completion of the project request. Key Stakeholders Mr. Hugh McCauley the COO initiated the service request and he should be the first individual to ask and gather information about his idea of the service request and of what he is looking for about what system requirements for a new Information System for HR. The Director of Human Resources, who is Yvonne McMillan should also be interviewed for her requirements and how does she see what is needed for connectivity to all other business locations using a new Information System. Asking any and all employees who use the current system the company has and what improvements can be done. All of these individuals information is a way of gathering information for this service request. Information Gathering Techniques The primary information gathering technique will be as a proposal to use the Use Case method. A use case is a methodology used in system analysis to identify, clarify, and organize system requirements. The use case is made up of a set of possible sequences of interactions between systems and users in a particular environment...

...Introduction I remember the first day that I left my son with a sitter in order to go to work. My wife was a trauma nurse who worked three twelve hour shifts starting at 7:00pm and ending at 7:00am. In order for her to get rest, we needed to find a sitter. The funny thing is I remember distinctly not feeling comfortable with leaving my son in this persons care, even though the references she provided were solid. To make a long story short, my intuition proved correct and the situation did not work. I fired the caregiver, perhaps hastily, and now had to figure out what to do about childcare. The hospital my wife worked at had a childcare facility and luckily, they had one opening that would allow us to enroll our son. The facility was clean and bright, very well staffed, and very open and inviting. The trade-off was that the “tuition” was a bit much for a young couple, but we agreed the safety and development of our son was much more important than the cost. Reflecting back on this with knowledge I now have, it is an absolute certainty that the daycare had a formalized system in place; however, I cannot identify which method. This “system” is the distinguishing factor between the two examples provided above. In one case, the caregiver assumes the role of guardian. The responsibility, if taken seriously, is to protect the child from harm and provide for the child’s basic needs. Robert Furman recognized in 1966 that caregivers are in a unique position to do something...

...Manufacturing who will provide requirements in the human resources project, describe information-gathering techniques and system analysis tools used for the project, explain what project scope is and the importance of it and describe the areas of project feasibility that are examined in the analysis phase of the SDLC. Key Stakeholders There are many stakeholders at Riordan Manufacturing, the key stakeholders that requirements would be gathered from are as follows: President and CEO Dr. Michael Riordan, Executive Assistant Jane McCall, SVP-R&D Kenneth Collins, Chief Operating Officer Hugh McCauley, VP International Operations Charles Williamson and the IT service managers. The stakeholders who can directly use the new system are also important as well. Information-Gathering To complete the system will require a set of information that will be categorized into numerous parts. This will make sure the system and processes are doable to the demands set by the SR-rm-004. SR-rm-004 is an analysis request for Riordan Manufacturing current human resources system for future integration. "Many techniques are available for gathering requirements, sometimes multiple techniques are needed to gain a complete picture (Mochal, 2008)." 1. One on one Interviews: A sit down with the client/stakeholders to ask what they need is the most common technique for gathering-information. To get the stakeholders talking ask open-ended questions, then ask probing questions...

...IS4560 Unit 3 Assignment 1 Information Gathering Plan The explosive growth and popularity of the world-wide web have resulted in thousands of structured query able information sources on the Internet, and the promise of unprecedented information-gathering capabilities to lay users. Unfortunately, the promise has not yet been transformed into reality. While there are sources relevant to virtually any user-queries, the morass of sources presents a formidable hurdle to effectively accessing the information. One way of alleviating this problem is to develop a information gatherer which take the user’s query, and develop and execute an effective information gathering plan that accesses the relevant sources to answer the user’s query efficiently. Most organizations are familiar with Penetration Testing (often abbreviated to, “pen testing”) and other ethical hacking techniques as a means to understanding the current security status of their information system assets. Consequently, much of the focus of research, discussion, and practice, has traditionally been placed upon active probing and exploitation of security vulnerabilities. Since this type of active probing involves interacting with the target, it is often easily identifiable with the analysis of firewall and intrusion detection/prevention device (IDS or IPS) log files. However, too many organizations fail to identify the potential threats from information unintentionally leaked, freely available over the Internet...

...Service Request SR-rm-022, Part 1 According to "Smith Services Consulting Incorporated" (2011), Riordan Manufacturing requests that we provide them with a “more sophisticated, state-of-the art, information systems technology” in their Human Resources department (SR Number, SR-rm-022). To ensure that we reach our goal, we will need to interview all of the key stakeholders and look at all the current systems that Riordan Manufacturing is using to consider what information will be required and needs to be collected. We have to make sure that we discuss the key factors and provide the best information to them in an effort to receive the required information back from the stakeholders. This will help get us the tools we need to create a project management system that will help us organize the information properly so that everything is covered. Key stakeholders in Riordan Manufacturing we would gather requirements from? To ensure success we would first start by collecting information from the very top of Riordan management, including; President and CEO, Dr. Michael Riordan; COO Hugh McCauley; Director of Human Resources, Yvonne McMillan. She will be instrumental in helping us know exactly what is expected of the new system, how it will be implemented, who made the request and what deadlines will need to be met. Next, we will gather information from the Director of Human Resources Yvonne McMillan, who directs and coordinates human resources activities. Her feedback will help...

The quicker a group ventures to every part of the more potential there is for inefficiencies and wounds. These can really nullify any of the monetary profits acknowledged from the higher profit of the group by adding extra wage hours to settle quality issues and added expenses identified with lost work hours. The objective now gets to be the means by which to raise benefit and be productive, all while constraining the potential for these negative symptoms. Your building is one of the bigger structures I have had the chance to evaluate and I thank you for that opportunity. A bigger gathering can likewise harbor bigger issues. ...Week 2 As the analyst for this project it is my responsibility to ensure that all the information needed is obtained and passed along to the developers in an organized and prompt fashion. The first step in which I will proceed to gather information from is by selecting which individuals inside the Riordan manufacturing company I will choose to gather information from. The individuals will vary from the CEO all the way down to the frontline employees. Currently for this project we will interview the individuals who the new program will affect as well as their managers and direct supervisors. Since the new program that is being analyzed and updated deals with the actual production line, I will be interviewing the production line team as well as the supervisors and managers for the production department. It is important to hear the issues with the current systems from the people that use the program everyday and experience the issues first hand rather than say get the information from someone like the CEO who rarely steps foot in the plant and does not know half of the issues that take place on a day to day basis. After I interview the first tier employees I will then interview the supervisors who are next up on the chain to gather any information from them. It is always key to hear multiple peoples side of things and make sure you see that current flaws from every tier and every persons point of view. The supervisors play a great role because they are the bridge between the tier...

...Research Methodology This chapter presents the methods and procedure used by the researcher in the analysis of the study. RESEARCH DESIGN The survey method was used to gather the necessary data where the questionnaire techniques was used as main tools in the study. This method was used because it was designed to gather information about people and perceptions. The principal aim of using this method is to describe the degree of perception,as it existed at the time of the study. Moreover, the profile of the respondents and the data gathered were being analyzed, after which the results were described and interpreted accordingly. Subject of the Study Globalization has raised the salience of corruption as an area of academic study. The Workshop on the Study of Corruption aims to bring together faculty interested in the issue from across the University. Topics covered may include, but are not limited to, the emergence and spread of corruption in societies; the association of corruption with economic liberalization; the globalization of corrupt practices; culture and corruption; retail (individual) and wholesale (institutional) corruption; transparency and corruption; lobbying and corruption; anti-corruption activism and reform efforts; and anti-corruption as a business model. ...system. Our company feels that the key stakeholders for this new system will of course be Hugh McCauley your COO, the director of the HR department, and the HR personnel. Our team is going to take all information from the key stakeholders and develop new HR tools and processes according to the requirements and information gathered. The beginning of this process is going to go a lot like an interview, where the IT department will gather relative information from those using the application that is already in use. Developers will also have a similar process throughout this time where they are gathering information for the SDLC (Software Development Life-cycle). The developers will let the HR department know what is reasonable and plausible throughout the SDLC so we can make the appropriate changes. Like previously stated we want to talk a little more about the information-gathering techniques. We will propose doing one on one, as well as group interviews, questioners, prototyping and joint application development also known as JAD. The one on one interviews will help the team because it will be face to face contact,...

...making a "Wild, Wild West" environment for popular conclusion research because of the different sorts — and quality — of techniques used to gather information, as indicated by Andrea Perrella, chief of the Laurier Institute for the Study of Public Opinion and Policy. The surveying business is experiencing "dim days," he said. "Less individuals are noting overviews," Perrella clarified. "There is no more a solitary philosophy and even in the most precisely controlled phone surveys, reaction rates are so low we are not very beyond any doubt what those non-respondents are considering." Gone are the days when by far most of subjects had landlines and firms had solid arrangements of individuals they could arbitrarily call. Today, firms need to spend more cash to incorporate cellphone clients in telephone overviews, while different organizations assemble online boards of individuals who volunteer to be requested to answer questions on the web. Surveyors mindful of 'close to emergency's Bluff Zukin, educator of open arrangement and political science at Rutgers University, penned a commentary in the New York Times in June where he said "race surveying is in close emergency, and we surveyors know." In 31 surveys distributed since Sept. 20, the NDP just figured out how to place second once in an Oct. 1 Nanos review of 1,499 individuals, when the gathering had 28 for every penny of backing. Fernadez. The researchers were privileged enough to speak with the Buns and Pizza PurezaBranch manager Mrs Melinda P.Fernandez. She said that the company’s ordering is done by manual process. Besides of the slowness of the said approach, results are often in accurate and unsatisfying. Lately, the company has tried using MS Excel but still theycannot see in a glance the status of their business because of MS Excel’s limitedcapability. Observation Report Once again with the big help of the contact person, the researchers were able to observethe actual operation of the manual system. Our contact gave us an example of the reportsand how they write all the important records like the customer files. The company’s manual ordering system has been troubled by recurrent problems.First, it is difficult to view the files due to its long tabulated nature in MS Excel. Second,it is difficult to use Excel due to their unfamiliarity with the software. The researchersalso noticed that the system is prone to error due to magnanimous manual inputs that theuser must provide. The system requires a lot more time to be able to update the orderingsystem that leads to inefficiency and less productivity. • Gathered Documents Library method consists of any reading or printed material they may expand one’sKnowledge...
