Abstract In this paper I will be talking about three different movie posters of the American War genre. First I will describe where I found the movie posters, and then I will state the results of the visual elements. Then I will analyze, and critique the results of the findings. Introduction When someone walks along the hallway of a movie theater, they will see a series of movie posters which are there to advertise the movie. Humans are known to act on their first impression, and this is important in advertising because it will either attract or defer a potential viewer. Most people have a favorite movie genre, so they’re more inclined to watch a movie that appears to fit under their genre. Through the movie posters a patriotic theme is given off, which will invite in the intended audience. American War movies have very similar posters, although they will have different stories. Today I will be talking about three different movie posters of the American war genre: “American Sniper” (See Fig.1), “Fury” (See Fig.2), and “Lone Survivor” (See Fig. 3). The main purpose of this report is to find and analyze the visuals of the three movie posters.

Methodology

In order to try and test my hypothesis, I will need to find material that will allow me to gather the appropriate information. I am going to use the internet to find three movie posters of the same genre, and that genre is American war movies. First I will search on google images for American War Movies. In order to stay within the boundaries of pop culture, it will be smart to add the word “new” to the search box alongside American War Movies. Most of the time there are different posters for the same movie, and this depends on budgeting for that movie. The first poster will serve as advertisement, and the advanced movie poster will be the one that I will use to describe genre awareness. The first movie poster that jumped out at me was for the movie “American Sniper” (See Fig.1) Thinking before printing this movie poster, I checked the site it came from to assure credibility. The site I chose to get this legitimate movie poster from was http://www.imdb.com/ because it seemed the most credible being that it was sponsored and owned by Amazon.com. This poster also had a release date, rating, and a list of credentials. I searched for the movie “Fury” (See Fig. 2) on Google.com because I saw it in my recent discoveries on the search engine in finding my first poster. My first movie poster had a release date, but this one did not. Knowing that I thought http://www.imdb.com/ was credible and reliable enough for the first movie poster I used, I went ahead and used the site again. For my third movie poster I went straight to the same website previously utilized to find my last movie poster which would be for the movie “Lone Survivor” (See Fig. 3). Although I used the same website I became skeptical because this movie poster had neither a release date nor any credentials at the bottom. I searched Google.com and found that the most frequent “Lone Survivor” did not have either of these things. Therefore, I had completed my search for three American War Genre movie posters.

Results
“American Sniper” (See Fig. 1) The background of the poster is a gloomy, and grey sky which resembles thick clouded smoke with small cracks of plain white light behind it. The background adds a sharpened effect to Bradley Cooper who is wearing a military green, brown, and beige camouflage outfit with a beige bulletproof vest. His outfit resembles the traditional navy seal combat uniform. He is carrying his helmet which was obviously taken of his head due to the messy look of his somewhat grown military haircut. His face is dirty, and his squinting facial expression is pointed down as if he is looking at the ground ahead of him. A tilted sideways American flag is blowing in the wind, and is covering the middle of his body. The American flag covers the width of the poster and is colored Red, White, and Blue. In the left bottom corner of the poster it is smoky and makes it hard to see his legs and weapon that shows under the bottom of the waving flag. The title is written in white and does not stick out, but below it says faintly in the same color “THE MOST LETHAL SNIPER IN U.S. HISTORY” (See Fig.1). The credentials are exactly as wide as the statement in the same color. And the release date is in the bottom right corner written in red in all caps, still as small as the credentials, but spaced differently. Bradley Cooper is written in grey at the top left corner, and Sienna Miller is written the exact same on the opposite side. “Fury” (See Fig. 2) The sky which shows in one fourth of the poster is completely filled with white cloud, and a pencil sketched looking vignette. Below the sky is bushy green trees that look like they’re far behind the huge Tiger tank that is dirty with mud. Shia Labouf leans up against the dirty tank, and has a look of defeat while looking into the distance. Michael Pena is sitting down on the tank while looking into the same direction as Shia. Logan Lerman is sitting on the highest point of the tank, with his knees facing the trees behind, but he is wrenched around looking the same direction as the others. Brad Pitt is the focus of the poster and stands in front of the tank with everyone behind him. Brad Pitt is looking in the same direction as the rest. They are all dirty, black on their faces, and all wearing marine outfits from the early 1920’s. As they are all looking in the same direction their facial expression looks like they’re waiting for something, but do not look afraid. Each of their blackened faces look like they know what is coming. The main cannon coming off of the front of the Tiger Tank says “Fury” in white chalk looking paint. “War Never Ends Quietly” is at the top center of the movie poster written in faint grey, which doesn’t stick out. “FURY” is in the lower center of the poster written in very bold yellow with the name “Brad Pitt” written in less bold directly above it in the same faint grey as the quote at the top of the poster. Under the unnoticeable credentials written in the traditional skinny unreadable font is the release date which is October 17th. . The release date written in small white bold at the very bottom center of the poster lining up with the poster.
“Lone Survivor” (See Fig. 3)

Mark Wahlberg is the main focus of the poster with rest behind him being black, which makes every detail of his face stand out. He is very close up looking straight at me, but only half of his face makes the poster. He is wearing a khaki bucket hat which fabric and stitching looks frayed and distressed. His skin is blackened with mud, or paint. His skin looks oily as if he hadn’t cleaned himself in days, and his pores are very prominent. Each piece of facial hair that makes up the dark mustache, and “chin strap” is also prominent and noticeable. Mark Wahlberg looks very un-groomed. You can tell he has an American Navy Seal uniform on because of the American Navy emblem patch that you can see near his face that is attached to his bulky combat vest. You can see the hood if his jacket that goes all the way to the back of him where you can no longer see. He wears an ear piece, and you can see the spiral electrical wire attached to his vest to his ear. “Live to tell the story” is written to fit all the way across the width at the top of the poster. The quote is written in white, but doesn’t stick out dramatically. In focus, next to his eye says the title in bold white. Over top of the title says “Mark Wahlberg” in smaller print, and in even smaller print below the title says “Based on the acts of courage” (See Fig. 3

Discussion

By researching these movie posters I was able to better interpret what made these posters fit in the American War genre. In these posters they share similar elements such as color, fonts, and tone of character.

You may choose the movie genre, and you may find that you’re working with a multi-hyphenated genre (e.g., thriller-crime-drama). This is fine, as long as you can find three movie posters that represent this particular genre. Genre Awareness Report

...Genre Awareness Report Forrest Leitch Abstract In order to better understand how genres are interpreted, I chose three movie posters from the same genre to analyze. I observed the posters for similarities that lend themselves to characteristics of the genre. Multiple aspects of the poster were taken into consideration, such as title font, images, layout, and coloring. I concluded that all three posters shared similar characteristics, through which the genre of their movie can be deduced. Introduction In the world of cinema, genres are very important. Audience, film content, and style are just a few determining factors in which genre a movie fits into. Movie posters are a quick way to convey the genre to consumers without having to actually see the movie. Not all movies fit perfectly into just one genre, however, and genres don’t have rigid structures that the movies within them must comply with. Children’s-Adventure movies, for example, are usually animated films that have a plot based on some type of journey or adventure that is taken on by the main characters (Dirks, 1). There is almost always some great obstacle or challenge that the main character(s) must overcome, and usually good trumps evil. These films generally contain light humor, and teach some sort of life-lesson, or have a recurrent morale to the story. Methodology I analyzed three movie posters from the Children’s-Adventure genre to explore the similarities and differences movie posters from the same...

Genre Awareness Report

...Tanner Otto Professor Lee Gullickson English 120 13 September 2013 Genre Awareness Abstract To find out what characteristics define an action movie and whether or not they hold true for all action movies, I decided to do some research using the internet. After looking at multiple movie posters I noted the similar characteristics between them all. When confronted with the similarities I further analyzed the posters and tried to determine what the reasoning behind the similarities was. Finally, I deciphered the reason behind them and made a decision on whether or not certain characteristics are present in all action movies. Introduction Action movies have been around since movies were first created. The visual effects and the actors have changed, but the feel is the same. When describing an action movie the average person thinks of guns, cars, explosions, violence and big action-star names such as Jason Statham. These are stereotypes of the action movie genre. These same stereotypical aspects, among others, are showcased in the posters. My aim for this report is to look at different movie posters of the same genre and look for common themes and elements between them and decipher the meanings and purpose. Methodology To find examples of movie posters I began my research by using google to search for images of known action movies. The first search was for the Expendables 2 poster. When looking at the results I saw that one poster was more frequent than the others and...

Littering is just one way in which our town becomes less unified, so I would fight to stop this disrespect of our city. I would also try to organize more money into a budget for making our city more beautiful. This budget would cover more landscaping and maintenance projects across the community. Another thing I would do as mayor would be to set aside more money in our budget to go towards our city’s drug awareness program. It is sad heart-breaking and devastating to see so many of our promising teenagers and young adults turning to drugs, alcohol, and substance abuse. In strengthening this program, more and more teenagers could become aware of their reckless behavior and the affects that come with the decisions they make. By bringing about this awareness in our youth we can ultimately create a generation of, honest, engaged, and active members of our community. All of these ideas factor into uniting our town...

Having never left the southeast United States, I would definitely benefit from this grant so that I could see the world and give myself a better understanding of how the future of business will be like. With so many countries being involved with each other exchanging goods and services, it is essential to understand how these relationships work and what makes these transactions run as smoothly as they do. The product has significant improvements when compared with the other existing products on the market, such as: * Efficient and reliable water pressure and temperature * One touch control on the wall * Light signaling the right temperature is achieved etc * Installation of the Quartz was about half a day (vs. 2 days for other showers) Survey shows that consumers and plumbers loved the product. However, initial sales are low, mainly due to low consumer awareness and plumbers’ reluctance to new products. Where does the problem lie in the funnel? Consumers are uninformed about showers, with little understanding of the products options. Thus, plumbers have a greater influence when selecting the brand, as only in 27% of the times consumers select type and brand of the shower, otherwise plumbers influence on the purchase. Lack of knowledge leads to lack of brand awareness. Options: 1. Targeting consumers directly: -Expensive to have a proper ad campaign (costs 3 to 4 M Euro) - The consumers decide only 27% of the time (ex 4) +Consumers could become more brand aware +Easier to reach consumers than plumbers 2. Targeting Do-It- Yourselfers -Lower-end part of the market thus will be price conscious, have to lower prices -The brand will be perceived as a lower quality brand, due to the new niche market +Could “push” the product through partnership (B&Q) thus have lower costs than running...

Stages of Ego Development

...Stages of Ego Development Jillian Whalen PSY/230 June 20, 2014 Chris Allen Shreve Stages of Ego Development Jane Leovinger created a method of recognizing which stage of ego development one may be in at any given age. A verbal sentence completion test is implemented to help the participant understand more about which one of the nine stages of development she may be experiencing at the time and what she needs to do in order to move on to the next stage. Each stage explains what level of maturity, acceptance, and understanding one may be in at the time of test completion. They also help the individual understand their internal feelings about environmental factors surrounding them and how these factors form the ego. Loevinger notes that not everyone reaches self-actualization and many may be stuck at certain stages. Stage one – The Pre-Social and Symbolic Stage: Because this stage occurs at infancy, it is not as understood as well as other stages because the child is non-verbal and unable to complete the sentence completion test. An infant’s ego, according to Loevinger, is most interested in gratifying immediate needs, such as feedings and diaper changes. She also notes that infants form a close bond with their primary care giver. While the child recognizes she is a different entity from the world that surrounds her, she has trouble distinguishing her own identity from the caregiver. Stage two- The Impulsive Stage Loevinger describes this stage in relation...

Texting While Driving Laws

...personal experience of this kind. The author of this article had a friend who was driving down a country road texting while driving. He swerved left of center and hit a box truck head on and died instantly. Everyone in high school at the time knew him so it was quite devastating to the entire student body. There were grief counselors on site for a couple weeks after he passed away. This incident shows how a simple act can instantly affect everyone so quickly. There are more and more texting while driving injuries and deaths happening every day. A lot of these injuries and deaths are in states with lenient texting while driving laws. If communities in the states with these lenient laws helped raise awareness, people may think twice before texting while driving and also raising awareness could possibly lead to the chance to change some laws. Some people believe texting while driving laws make people have to hide their texting behind the wheel, thus making it more dangerous (Masnick, 2012). Regardless of opinions, studies show that there is a significant difference in the number of violations between states with lenient laws and states with strict laws (Masnick, 2012). Texting while driving laws are not strict enough in certain states, making citizens of those states not take texting while driving laws serious, which could possibly cause more accidents and even death....

New Chanel Csr

...Definition:  We are interested in counseling and helping abandoned rape victims in India, and change the society's perception of them. So we are considering holding a fashion show to raise money and awareness of this forgotten issue in the feminists’ agenda. Current Condition:  The reason we are considering our CSR is because raped women in India are facing some serious issues concerning their well-being and welfare, but they are incapable of confronting and overcoming them on their own (George, 2015). We have already done some CSR ideas in the past. For example, earlier in 2012, to boost awareness of the Mitochondrial Disease, we hosted The Chanel Pour le Temps Charity Fashion Show which was a standout amongst the most foreseen occasions of the year (Chanel Pour le, 2012). Moreover, in 2013, a fashion show was held in Paris' Grand Palais demonstrating eco-friendly supplies and handiwork for their recent cloth collection (Reynolds, 2013). Due to Chanel’s hiatus of CSR activities, the idea is to bring the company an incredible social impact by advertising its name in the midst of the ongoing social justice campaigns and feminism movements. As it is a trademark that is made for women and by a woman, it is important for us to help these neglected women defeat their fears and restore hope in their hearts.  Course of Action: Beneficiaries We chose India, or rather specifically northern India, for our new CSR because in 2011 a total of 24,206 rape cases were registered...
