...unproductive loser. That’s why I like to pile on as many things as possible. But sometimes you can’t get it all done and, well, you feel like an unproductive loser again. That’s when good time management becomes important. Managing time is nothing new to me, but I’m always looking for a better way to do it. Of all the different methods and tricks that I’ve tried, I think these five are the ones that consistently work the best for me: 1. Just Say No to Facebook. It’s so tempting to log on, just to see troll through groups, check out who updated their status and who’s just now uploaded his or her new photos. But if you have a lot of work to do, you must avoid it! We all know the drill: you get on there just to check for new messages and the next thing you know, you’ve wasted two precious hours. I still haven’t really mastered this one, but when I am able to avoid Facebook , I get things done in much less time. 2. The Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with the First Step. This is actually my favorite one. As we all probably know, starting something we don’t want to do is often the hardest part of finishing it. To deal with this, I tell myself that I’m going to work on that statistics problem set for five minutes. At the end of five minutes, I say “just five more.” If you just do that a few times, you’ll build up the momentum to the point where it’s harder to stop than to keep going.” .This is a very effective way of getting things done, because it doesn’t take much inner strength to...

...your first impression of a society is going to be based on what you have heard about it or what you think about it. Each one of us learns certain prejudices, assumptions and stereotypes that alter our perception of others. It is not realistic for somebody who has no interaction with a society to fully understand how and why things are working in that society unless this observer keeps his/her personal perspective away and practice the self-awareness. If I am visiting a so called Nacirema society, my perspective of viewing at their culture would be totally different than how I would see this culture as soon as I would realize that it is actually world famous American culture. There are a few rituals that I would like to observe from that individual’s view who have never been to Nacirema society before this. The “use of expensive magical charms and potions” and “spending quality time in shrine” would make me think of this society as a magic ridden people who are shallow and superficial with their appearance. They would make their body go through extreme pain by following some rituals, such as, going to” holy-mouth man to get the painful procedure done”, “putting hog hair in the mouth” and ”women boiling their heads in ovens.”(Miner) Being an outsider in this culture, I might quickly attribute these strange rites as supernatural rituals because these rituals and their names are unfamiliar to me. My first impression would be “What is wrong with these people? Why do they go...

This will give them a purpose and the ability to set goals which in turn will help them steer their decisions towards the right direction. 2) Short and Long Term Goals Problem: Short Term or Long Term goals have not been set for the company to be successful. CanGo tends to make decisions on the go without a very strong analysis done. Solution: Create Short Term and Long Term goals for the company to provide a clear understanding for the future of the company and “Managers must maintain both a vision for the future of the organization as well as a focus on its present operating needs. However, financial markets can exert significant pressures on executives to meet short-term performance targets. Studies have shown that corporate leaders often take a short-term approach to the detriment of creating long-term shareholder value." (Dess, G.G, Lumpkin, G.T., Eisner A.B., 2010. p. 11). 3) Market Research Problem: It appears there has not been any market research done to see what is out there, prior to making this...

...the job gets done, i.e., the output quality, zero defects. “Efficiency” is getting things done, it is not trying and it is not having ability. In other words, “efficiency” is actually accomplishing. It is execution. “Effectiveness” is also getting the right things done. This is where the efficiency is different than effectiveness. With efficiency, is to get the task done faster, easier, or better way. But with effectiveness, there always an initial question as to “what to do”? Example for efficiency, at the Siemens AG factory in Forchheim, Germany, where employees make X-Ray equipment, efficient manufacturing techniques were implemented by doing things such as cutting inventory levels, decreasing the amount of time to manufacture products, and lowering product reject rates. These efficient work practices paid off as the plant was named one of Industry Week’s best plants for 2002 “Industry Week’s Best Plant”, (2003) Industry Web site From this perspective, efficiency is often referred to as “doing things right”, that is, not wasting resources. Example for effectiveness, at the Siemens factory, goals included reducing equipment installation time for customers and cutting costs. Through various work programs, these goals were pursued and achieved. Whereas efficiency is concerned with the means of getting things done, effectiveness is concerned with the ends or attainment of organisational goals (see exhibit1.1). Management is concerned, then, not only with getting activities completed...

...Spend time with my family and catch up on my honey do list. Daily Routine Questions 1. What are the major differences in your daily routine now that you are in school? There is a lot of difference in my time management because I have to incorporate my schooling into my weekly work week. I do not have a normal job that has only a set number of hours, so sometimes I might work a 14 hour day. This is been kind of difficult for me to do but as the time goes by I am getting use to my new schedule. I have to set a goal each day that I need to accomplish so that I know that I will have the time each week to get my weekly assignments, dq’s and participation done. 2. Do you have an effective balance in the use of your time and your priorities? Why or why not? I think it took me a couple weeks to get an effective balance with my time and priorities. After getting use to the schedule and how things are to be done I think it made it a lot easier to balance everything out equally. I had to shift a few things around to make sure I could get...

...Three problems or challenges I’m facing that is making it difficult to pursuing my education and career goals. First would be spending time with my children. I have found it difficult to spend the time with my children I feel is necessary. I have learning in the chapter 6 reading of “Building on your best for career success” that the first thing is, “Time management.” I have accomplished this by having a written schedule. I have scheduled time each day for my children. In the reading it states to schedule one hour a week for your children. I decided to schedule one hour a day for each of my two children. This has worked great and has made feel great about myself. Second I have been challenged with my daily chores around my home. In the reading of chapter 6, I learned that if there is “Anything you must do, that you can do in five minutes or less, do it now.” This has worked perfect for me. Just like the post-a-note I put on my wall, “Just Do It,” from Nike. I write down the chores that need to get done and the amount of time each chore should take. Most all the chores can be done in less than five minutes. So I just do them. At the end of the day I’m not overwhelmed by the amount of work that I need to do. I have also learned to delegate what I can. Tell my children to do some of the bigger chores around my home. Third would be time for my studies. I have also scheduled time to study my school work on a calendar. The same calendar I have for all my daily tasks. Leaving...

...and wants. Needs is for example is when you need a new car, but you buy new clothes instead. Wants for example is when you want to buy a new computer, but you don’t have enough money to buy it. So the needs verse wants topic helped me understand that even when you need something important such as a new car, its best for you to buy the car instead of getting the new computer that you want. Completing the intellipath help understand the subject of matter by explaining the different ideas of each subject. Reading is not something that Iike to do, but in order to know what you are doing you have to read the entire intellipath to get a better understanding of the subject. Sometimes when I read the intellipath there are a bunch of things that I need to clarified in order to get the exact meaning. The topic I would like to learn more is time management, because one day when I finish school I would like to get a job that allows me to accomplish specific tasks, projects, and goals complying with a due date. Learning about time management will also help you learn more ways to get the job done quicker. Some jobs want you to get things done a little quicker, because they don’t want you to fall behind. So when you are working a difficult job, you must learn how to manage your...

...1. Management is the process of dealing with or controlling things or people. It is the process whereby manager creates directs and operates the organization objectives in a systematic way through assistance of human efforts. According to Harold Koontz ‘’Management is the art of getting things done through and with people in formally organized groups’’. 2. Management is refers to the effective utilization and coordination of resources in order to achieve maximum efficiency. Management is also the guidance and control of action required to execute a program. According to F.W. Taylor, "Management is the art of knowing what you want to do and then seeing that they do it in the best and the cheapest may." 3. Management is the process of getting things done through the efforts of other people in order to achieve the predetermined objectives of organization. According to ‘’Peter Drucker’’ “Management is a multipurpose organ that manages a business and manages Managers and manages Workers and work.” 4. ...variables in managing the hardware replacement, scope, time, quality, cost and risk. All of these things need to be evaluated. Being the project manger it requires a lot of change and work to get the new CRM working properly. Project manger duties include planning the work, assessing risk, estimating resources required to accomplish the work, organizing the work, acquiring human and material resources, assigning tasks, directing activities, controlling project execution, reporting progress, and analyzing the results so that the project manger can make a good decision on how to go about the work for this project. There are very important tasks that people have to do like, managing the time that was allowed to complete the project, the cost of the project, and getting the results that you should be getting from this new system. These five major variables during implementing of this system scope, time, quality, cost and risk. All of these variables must be balanced when you are in the planning stage. You must consider the results of what you want out of this project and have realistic estimated of what can be done to reduce the risk to this project. The time and the scope must be adjusted to stay in line with the cost of the project. If you can meet the scope, time quality, cost and the risk you should be able to meet the project needs on time and on budget. The scope defines things that are not included in the project at first but are realized after the fact of the matter like...

...and delegating decision-making. Teamwork is a huge strength because it helps things move smoother throughout the process of getting it done. The delegation strength allows the management to really focus on the things that need to be decided on by someone at the higher levels of decision-making. Allowing them to not be bogged down by small and trivial decisions that anyone could make. Two weaknesses for this style are that it can lead to long meetings with team members and it can lead to a reduction in power among management. The long meetings can end up taking time out of the day to over a ton of trivial and pointless decisions that need to be made. The reduction in power is the biggest weakness. Managers are meant to be the one with the power and to enforce the rules; once that power becomes reduced the staff begins to lose faith in the management. Autocratic leadership is similar in regards to the participative leadership in the way that the management is still the final say on decision making. Autocratic leaders actually will just make the decision and assume that all members of the group will just comply. The biggest difference between autocratic and participative leaders is that an autocratic does not delegate anything to the lower level associates. They place a heavy need on getting the tasks accomplished. They will be incredibly assertive and expect that what they tell you to do gets done. The...

...Bribing Kids Kids should do the right thing without having to be bribed by their own parents, am I right! Kids don’t need to have something as a reward, just because they aren’t willing to do the right thing. Kids should also be able to get their work done without getting a reward. Getting away with little things when you’re little, yeah that’s ok, but when you get older you should know what’s the right the thing to do, without being told. When kids move out and have carried the fact that they will be rewarded when they do something good, is not a good thing. They won’t have their mother there with them at all times to see them do the right thing, so when/if they did the right thing without the mother/father they could think they will be...

...we can keep abreast of new development in this area. It is enough if you have an adequate understanding of the definition of management. The better approach is to know "the how to" and whether the way you manage things effectively accomplish the targets of the tasks at hand. And thus helping, at the end of the day, to achieve the overall objectives of your organization. It is very difficult to give a precise definition of the term 'management'. Different scholars from different disciplines view and interpret management from their own angles. The economists consider management as a resource like land, labour, capital and organisation. The bureaucrats look upon it as a system of authority to achieve business goals. The sociologists consider managers as a part of the class elite in the society. Mary Parker Follett Management is also defined as "to get things done through others." She defined management as "the art of getting things done through people." This is a fine definition if there are "others" to help. You are more in the position of being "in charge", "handling" the task at hand, and "directing" yourself in the process. You "managed" to accomplish the task not "through others". So the definition of management in this context is that you got things done all by yourself, using your skills, knowledge and effort. Other definitions are "administration" and "the process of managing." This appears to fit more the previous way of managing people which is more administrative...

...routine and stick with it. That’s not the case for me. I have such little time to actually spend on myself that I sometimes let that time spill into time that I need to be studying, getting homework done, cleaning, doing laundry or something else productive. I always have a list of tasks that I want to accomplish during the week but I rarely get them all completed. Something else that’s more appealing to me always seems to steal me away from what I know that I should be doing. This leaves me rushing at the last minute to get everything done. Oddly enough, this tends to motivate me and I seem to work better when I know I have a tight time limit set. In order to be able to take steps to rid me of bad time management and procrastinating I need to determine what I do that wastes the most of my time. As well as eliminate the things that distract me most from being productive and accomplishing tasks in a timely matter. I have found that a lot of my time has been wasted doing little insignificant things instead of or during trying to accomplish tasks. I get caught up in things like playing games on my cell phone, getting on Facebook, playing with the dogs, and texting. These pesky detours end up taking up a lot more time than I think they do. If I were able to consciously catch myself doing these things I would be able to cut a lot of unnecessary wasted time out of my day. Then I could finally know what it feels like to accomplish everything on...
