A teacher want to work at the high school in New Jersey but the principal said that she has to spend two days being a 12th grader and a 10th grader . So she did now she knows what a student has to go through. The teacher didn’t like how they boss her around and how they gave too much homework and how the test piled up each week. I think that teacher don’t know what we are going through. School has change over time and school is getting harder. The reason I’m saying this because kids have to go through hard times like there parents broke up. They have to do a lot of things and they don't have time to do a lot of homework. Waking up in the morning at 7:00am is bad because we don't like that. Also scientific research says waking up

...Is homework harmful or helpful? Since many centuries as the education system has developed one thing remained the same i.e. homework. Every student gets homework whether he is in primary level or he is studying Master’s program. There are many debate going on weather homework is good or bad. I think Homework is bad for student and it may sometimes prove to be dangerous to his life. Firstly, many schools think homework is good for students as they think it keep mind engage and helps to make student sharp. They also think that homework helps to build patience and develops the problem solving skill so they support giving more homework. Here some of the thing may be true but what they don’t know is that homework cause death. Yes, there are many case where homework caused death. One of the case is of China where “In Jiangxi, 3 primary school girls hold hands and jump off a building to commit suicide because of too much homework [sic]”. Why Schools Shouldn T Have Homework

...Do you think schools shouldn’t have homework? Well a lot of kids and a handful of adults think schools should get rid of homework altogether. I believe schools should stop giving homework to students for these reasons: First homework causes health problems, and secondly takes important time away after school. The first reason is, homework causes health problems. For example, It causes stress, by family conflict. It also limits sleep, high level stress, and extreme weight loss. An example of extreme weight loss is, when kids are spending hours on homework and not having fun or exercising outside. Furthermore, believe it or not homework can even cause stress to teachers. Homework Is an Effective Way to Supplement Classroom Learning

...dismayed upon hearing those words from the teacher? Homework has long been a way to supplement students’ learning outside the classroom. This has also kept students busy every night, staring at their computer screens studying or researching about their assigned school work. Homework, in a way, is a good way of maintaing the knowledge students gained from school, but is it really the most effective way of providing supplemental studies? Most studies have shown that homework may be more supplemental than being detrimental to a student’s learning. On one perspective, it has been proven that assigning homework is beneficial to a student’s performance in school. Evidence has been found that homework is an effective supplemental form of learning, and “can impact positively on the retention and understanding of knowledge and can improve study skills...and demonstrate that learning can take place outside of formal schooling,” (qtd. in Department of Education and the Arts 7). This shows that studying should not just be confined to the walls of the classroom, and that after-school learning is vital to reinforce what has been taught by the teacher to the students. Without this reinforcement, students might easily forget the concepts learned in the classroom. Thus, this would result to a poor evaluation performance. This is especially true to students who do not pay attention during Evaristo 2 class time. Because of homework, they would be forced to study the lesson, and soon enough...

How Does Dress Code Really Affect The Environment

...different perspectives on topics such as technology, dress codes, grades, and homework. To determine these perspectives, I interviewed students Brady Wells & Hamza Quadri and teacher Douglas Moore. How important is technology in terms of school? "Technology is a great thing in many scenarios, but I feel that combining technology and school should be done very carefully and minimally," said Wells. "Some forms of technology are necessary at school, such as using calculators and having computers available. However, it can easily be taken too far by giving students too much control, such as individual iPads. "I think we spent so much time worrying about being technologically advanced that we forget that...

...There are many issues that today’s teenager has to deal with, and this causes stress. The most frequently cited reason for this stress is school related and often out of the teenager’s control. Teachers assign them “absurd quantities of mostly pointless homework that force students to work a second shift after having spent all day in school” (Kohn “Reconsider Attitudes”). A study done by Mediamark Research Inc. found that 60.2% of teens surveyed are stressed all the time or sometimes, and that 72.4% of the teens surveyed are stressed because they had a lot of school work ("Teens Want to Enjoy" 2-3). American teenagers are not the only ones with school related stress. In a survey done in Hong Kong, students were asked about what stressed them out, and school and standardized testing were the top two answers, with 25 of 40 and 27 of 40 students agreeing that those things stressed them out (“Are Teenagers Too Stressed?” 8). However, fretting about standardized testing isn’t just limited to teenagers in Hong Kong. It stresses American students out so much that it is not uncommon for a student to vomit during testing (Kalish). While these experts and studies have suggested that schoolwork and standardized tests are the specific problems that teens face, some teens might not agree, and it is necessary to find out; for this reason, my survey asks what is stressing teens out. While vomiting during a test is certainly a side effect of stress, there are many others as well. Teens experience...

Effectiveness of Homework

...EFFECTIVENESS OF HOMEWORK; IN TEACHING AND LEARNING IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN KENYA. Homework is such a stress! Teachers, pupils and parents often make this statement. Considering homework as part of schooling, it is fascinating how much everybody finds it stressful and uncomfortable. Except for the occasional projects, primary school pupils in Kenya, from pre- school, lower primary and upper classes, think of homework as boring, repetitative and a waste of their leisure, T.V, story, movie and playtime. In addition, for some it prevents them from exploring and discovering new stuff. For them homework, is an obstacle and not part of learning. The teachers also continuously complain about the coverage of the extensive Kenyan syllabus in relation to the time they spend on checking, marking, correcting and grading homework. On the other hand, parents consider the duty of supervising homework as a burden; an alternate between household chores and fury mixed with tears. If pupils cannot stand it, teachers do not like marking and parents do not like standing over their children, why do we still want to stress on its ultimate effectiveness in teaching and learning in primary schools? The primary school pupils may not always view homework as a pleasant experience, but if the assignment serves, a good purpose and parents are involved in reinforcing the completion of the tasks, and then homework becomes an effective tool in learning and teaching. Pupils in turn benefit by gaining high grades, better...

Students Without A Childhood Rhetorical Analysis

...It has been said that the average American child will devote countless hours at home to homework and all of its components throughout the entirety of their high school career. Schools across America have differing views on the common practice of assigning extra work outside of the classroom. Some schools rally behind the assignment of the work by making claims that homework reinforces the lessons taught in class. Other schools want to do away with homework entirely, claiming that it takes away free time from children and does little when it comes to improvement. Some schools, however, have no definite stance on their take with homework; they are neither in favor nor against it and leave the assignment of work up to the discretion of the teacher....

Homework

...Homework and Testing 1 Homework and Testing Assigning Homework How much is too much? As with classroom assignments, homework should never be given as busy work. It should have a purpose with a goal. And as I mentioned in the Behavioral Approach to Learning, homework should NEVER be given as punishment. The kid will associate homework with punishment. This may interest you. Harris Cooper (1998) analyzed more than 100 research studies on homework in American schools. He found that homework had a very small connection with test scores at the elementary level. If anything, the more homework an elementary school student had, the more negative their attitude was toward school. Plus it takes away from their social time, which is an important part of growing up. Kids need to learn social skills. Too much homework causes stress, as you probably know very well by now. Kids need to have down time too! Why does homework have such a small effect at the elementary level? One reason is that young children have limited attention spans and are very distractible. It is difficult to do homework in a house that has many distractions. Teachers need to work with parents and help students find a quiet space to do homework. Most professional organization in education agrees that homework should never exceed 10 - 20 minutes per day in grades K - 2. In grades 3 - 6 homework should never exceed 30 - 60 minutes per day. Another reason elementary school children do not benefit much from homework is...

...School Polices: It is affective for children to have after-school activities or parents active in their school lives. Children should stay in school and graduate high school with a diploma for many reasons. Studies show that children who do not receive a high school degree or diploma are more likely to use drugs, work at a fast food restaurant, and struggle for money more than half their life. Whereas children that do receive a high school degree are more likely to have a higher paying income with brighter futures and tend to not struggle with finances near as much if any struggles at all. New and stronger polices are needed to keep children in school. Attending school should be required. Many students do not realize that even middle school as well as high school are what determine how bright a child’s future is. Many children use excuses like, horrible cafeteria food, too much homework, or not having enough free time, but these are all invalid excuses (Tyler and Lofstrom 77+). A child’s grades in middle school as well as high school are determining their future (Tyler and Lofstrom 77+). As an adult, a high school diploma shows the person will not give up easily and are able to finish a task (Masse, Naiman, and Naylor 71+). That simple information determines a lot to a person looking for the right guy or girl to high for their business (Masse, Naiman, and Naylor 71+). Declaration Of Independence From School

...Declaration of Independence from School Although school is very important because having a good education is necessary. But, school is very difficult at times. School is essential and there are benefits from it. But there is always room for improvement. In order to have an ideal school environment, some things should change. The first suggestion is that school should start later and end later. Students and teachers would be able to focus better if they got more sleep and slept better. Getting up early can be quite a hassle. The second suggestion is that we should get more study hall time or have more study hall blocks. This will give not only students, but teachers, more time to do their work and plan things accordingly. Everyone could use some more preparation time! Another suggestion is to give less homework, tests,...

Afternoon Hours

...First Year Writing Dr. Holt 11/13/2011   Second Draft Afternoon Hours   Studies have shown the after school hours from three o’clock to six o’clock to be the time that teenagers partake in experimentation with drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and sex. In a controlled adult supervised environment like an after school program, teenagers are most likely to succeed in school and destroy the risk of getting influenced by bad things National support is needed to create these great after school work environments not only to help the at-risk teenagers, but also children who need academic improvement or some other sort of extracurricular activities. After school programs can help students improve their social skills, self-confidence, school attitude, and academic achievement (“Afterschool”). An after school program can be anything from a sport to a place where they can meet with other people to get work done or simply have fun. It simply needs to be something that occupies their afternoon in a positive manner. The problem is that many children in the United States are left to themselves since there are few programs available to them. Certain areas of the country, especially cities with high crime rates such as New York, Detroit, Los Angeles, St. Louis, and many other, lack right support for children’s education in the three to six o’clock time zone. These areas happen to be some of the roughest in the country because of crime related issues, but more importantly there are not enough aftercare...

Plagiarism

...Plagiarism Copying other people’s work and taking it as your own is the simplest way to explain plagiarism. There are different ways to plagiarize something; you can plagiarize by copying someone’s work such as story from a book or a magazine, information’s, paintings/drawings, songs, movies/dramas, or anything that is an idea of someone without giving them credit of their work. People copy others work because of various reasons, those reasons includes less time needed in doing the work. Some people are lazy and some don’t like spending too much time doing one thing. Some would decide to do the work the very last minute to the point where they don’t have enough time to finish without copying. And others want to have a better quality work than what they came up with so they search and copy or modify a better one, they don’t have knowledge of the work so they copy, or they don’t have the patience to do the work. Procrastination, laziness, lack of knowledge of the topic, writes block, low self-confidence of own work can lead someone to plagiarize. There are times when plagiarism is done without the knowledge of that person. They could have an idea, turn it into reality but end up realizing that their idea is exactly or almost similar to someone else’s. You can borrow the work of someone as long as you give credit to the people or person who created them. No matter the reason is; it should be common sense that it is bad to copy and steal someone else’s work. It is better to...

Study Drugs

...has received a lot of criticism. This is understandable since the term for this focus-enhancing pill is called a ‘drug’. This is probably why the name for the pills has been changed to “academic doping”. There has also been asked question the drugs on whether it is cheating to take these pills before studying or taking a test. Another question is whether it is dangerous for the students to take these drugs. Study drugs are drugs that have the purpose to improve one’s cognitive ability. These drugs pills such as Adderall and Ritalin. By improving one’s cognitive ability you will be able to concentrate more and thereby work more effectively.
