The globalization of the Coca-Cola Company has created hatred and distain throughout the world. “Many countries have tried to ban” (Barlow, 2003; Zinn, 2002) the use of Coca-Cola products, claiming that Coca- Cola is “threatening public health, aggressively pursuing youth in schools as potential new customers and to encouraging students to understand themselves principally as consumers rather than citizens.” (Barlow, 2003; Zinn, 2002) The Coca-Cola Company faces accusations of “privatizing water supplies in Chiapas, Mexico, undermining workers’ rights in Central and South America by threatening union organizers with death, using sweatshop child labor and failing to provide adequate healthcare benefits to workers with AIDS in South Africa.” (Barlow, 2003; Zinn, 2002) With all these horrific accusations put on Coca-Cola, the company is starting to reform their ways. In all of the following articles, you will find that Coca-Cola realizes their negative affects around the world and are attempting to change their ways. After the incidences in India with the water supply, Coca-Cola has become more environmentally friendly and is cutting back on water usage. Coca-Cola created plans for a recycling plant and have signed with ZAP (Zero Air Pollution) to “reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions in a way that is good for business and the environment.” (CNN Money 11.1.07) Coca-Cola also opened a water plant in Florida and attempting to become more “green” in India. Coca-Cola created Brazil’s Rainforest Water program, which “promotes the recovery of watersheds by replanting riparian forests.”(Research News 11.1.01) Coca-Cola has also realized that their actions in other countries cannot be ignored and will be tried in court.
