...Why goats are better than dogs and cats Dogs are regarded as man’s best friend. In the USA alone, there are around 78 million dog owners. There are also over 220 million cats in the world. Whenever you think of a common household pet, you will most likely think of cats or dogs straight away. If you go out for a walk, it is almost guaranteed that you will see a cat or a dog. How many of you own a dog or a cat? Well I am going to convince you why goats are better pets than dogs or cats. Goats are amazing creatures. In many parts of the world they are thought of as livestock or work animals. They are used in third world countries for their meat, fur, milk and to work on the land. The truth is, they are wonderful pets and very loving creatures. There are around 450 million goats in the world and they were the first animal ever to be domesticated by humans. There are many different breeds of goats. All breeds are either dairy or meat goats. Dairy goats are bred for their milk, and meat goats are bred for their meat. Each different breed is extremely different, both in appearance and personality so you have lots to choose from. Dogs and cats are lots of fun but they don’t offer uses in many other ways. Goats can be very useful because they are able to eat the grass on your lawn. This is great for people who are busy because they won’t have to mow their lawn so often. Goats also provide you with fresh milk. Many scientists claim that fresh goat’s milk is great for your health. This...

...INTRODUCTION In many countries in Asia, goats are very important in the protein diets of the people, as well as a good, stable source of livelihood especially for the poor in the rural areas. Goat production is mostly carried out by smallholders where the animals are kept in small flocks at an average of 5-10 head/family. While rearing of goat remains at a subsistence level, its contribution to the total farm income is substantial. Goat production fits well in the rural landscape as well as in the resource capacity of smallholder farmers. It requires low initial capital and guarantees a high return on investment in as fast as two years; hence it is an attractive undertaking among rural households (FFTC Annual Report 2009). In recognition of its importance, several advanced technologies have been developed to increase goat production in some countries in the region. Technology improvement widely ranges from reproductive techniques and seasonal breeding, to silage making, agricultural by-product utilization, slotted slat barn facilities and total mix ration. However, most Asian small-scale goat farmers do not have access to these relevant information and advanced technologies for increased outputs, giving them very limited opportunities to improve their production as well as their livelihood. Goats are a most likely alternative source of animal protein, and can efficiently provide meat and milk to complement cattle and buffalo production. Goat raising has become not just for the...

...If Jaden McCoy accepts the proposal, there will be incremental revenues and expenses associates with it. The main revenue will be rental fee of goats. 25 goats will be available per day and the rental fee is $15 per day. Total size of the area is 43,650 square feet and a goat would eat about 250 square feet or forage daily. 25 goats will eat 6250 square feet per day so it will take 7 days to clear the site. Revenue calculated by the number of calendar day times rental fee times 25 goats is $2625 (See Appendix A: Incremental revenues). There are four categories in expenses: set-up costs, fencing costs, shepherd and dog costs, and transportation costs. Set-up cost is approximately $100. The length for linear foot of fence is 962 feet and cost is $0.75 per feet. So the total fencing cost is $721.50. $190 is required for a shepherd and dog for 7 days; this would cost $1330. It is 80 miles per day to drive and 7 days are required to finish the work. Transportation costs will be $352.80 with rate per mile of $0.63. It was assumed that transporting set-up material to and from the site and removing fences to a local recycle center can be done while moving the goats, so there is no additional expenses required. Adding all expenses together, total expenses are $2504.30 (See Appendix B: Incremental expenses). Total 7 days are required for the project and variable costs are $1682.80 per 7 days including shepherd and dog and transportation costs. Set-up and fencing costs are fixed costs...

...The limits of our tolerance portrayed in The Goat or Who is Sylvia? Edward Albee, born on March 12, 1928, is an American playwright who is well known for his controversial works. One controversial piece of work in particular was a play written in 2002 titled The Goat or Who is Sylvia?. The Goat or Who is Sylvia? has received mixed reviews. Some people believe that the sole meaning behind the play is bestiality and find the subject matter to be disturbing; others believe that the play has much more meaning to it besides bestiality. Edward Albee has said that The Goat or Who is Sylvia? is about “the limits of our tolerance of the behavior of others than ourselves, especially when such behavior ran counter to what we believe to be acceptable social moral boundaries, and our unwillingness to imagine ourselves behaving in such an unacceptable fashion.” In The Goat or Who is Sylvia?, writer Edward Albee uses dialogue between the characters Ross, Billy, and Martin to portray and criticized the limits of our tolerance as a society. In the opening scene of The Goat or Who is Sylvia? Martin is interviewed by his best friend, Ross Tuttle, on his fiftieth birthday. Martin is being interviewed for a television segment titled “People Who Matter” because of his recent accomplishments; he became the youngest person ever to win the Pritzker Price and was chosen to design a new two hundred billion dollar dream city of the future name “World City”. This is the happiest moment in Martin’s...

...5e c 543 4 he domestic goat (Capra aegagrus hircus) is a subspecies of goat domesticated from the wild goat of southwest Asia andEastern Europe. The goat is a member of the family Bovidae and is closely related to the sheep as both are in the goat-antelope subfamilyCaprinae. There are over 300 distinct breeds of goat.[1] Goats are one of the oldest domesticated species, and have been used for their milk, meat, hair, and skins over much of the world.[2] In 2011, there were more than 924 million live goats around the globe, according to the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.[3] Female goats are referred to as "does" or "nannies", intact males as "bucks", "billies", or "rams" and their offspring are "kids".Castrated males are "wethers". Goat meat from younger animals is called "kid" or cabrito (Spanish), and from older animals is simply known as "goat" or sometimes called chevon (French), or in some areas "mutton" (which more often refers to adultsheep meat). ...last year, a one-room cabin equal 3 acres of land and equal 12 sheep finally, a plow equals 2 goat and equal 2/3 sheep according to last year’s exchange rate and 2 carts which were traded with a poor acre of land equals 8 sheep plus 400 sheep. So Deyonne’s total assets are 500(2/3) sheep. Deyonne’s liabilities and assets deduction are 35 sheep plus 3 sheep, which will come to 38 sheep, therefore, his total net assets are 462(2/3) sheep. Batonne’s assets: 1. 360 sheep 2. 30 acres of land (which were trade with 35 sheep 10 years ago) 3. 10 acres of land (which were trade current year) 4. 10 goats ( 3 goat equals 1 sheep according to last year’s price) 5. An ox ( equals 3 sheep) 6. A two-room cabin (worth 3 acres of land) Explanations: 1. Although Batonne obtained 20 acres of land 10 years ago with 35 sheep, the worth of land increased to 4 sheep per acre of land. So all the land should be converted to sheep according to this later price. 2. There is no exchange price for the poor land, so it is assumed that the price for poor land is also 4 sheep per acre of land. 3. Because the order Batonne’s wife received cannot satisfy the requirement of revenue confirmation, the revenue of this order cannot be confirmed as income, therefore, cannot be confirmed as assets either. Based on the information, 40 acres of land equal 160 sheep, 10 goats equal 3(1/3) sheep, an ox equals 3 sheep, and a two-room cabin worth 12 sheep plus 360 sheep...

...Animals have played a significant role in human customs, legends, and religions throughout history. "Primitive people found that human- animal relationships were important to their very survival, and petkeeping was common in hunter-gatherer societies" (Anderson et al., 1987). It is impossible to determine when the use of animals was used specifically to promote physical and psychological health. However, the use of horseback riding for people with serious disabilities has been reported for centuries. Records show that at the York Retreat, in England 1792, in an attempt to reduce the use of harsh drugs and restraints animals were incorporated into the treatment for mental patients. In 1919 at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington, D.C., a letter to Superintendent Dr. W.A. White from Secretary of the Interior F.K. Lane suggested the use of dogs as companions for the psychiatric hospital's residents. From 1944 to 1945 at an Army Air Corps Convalescent Hospital at Pawling, New York was the earliest known extensive use of companion animals. Farm animals were used with patients that were recovering from war experiences. After the war, they began to use animals in outpatient psychotherapy. During the 1970's, case studies were reported of animals facilitating therapy with children and senior citizens. In our own time the urban population's often unsatisfied need for intimacy, and contact with nature may reflect the great increase in pet ownership. According to the article...

...The most likely diagnosis for the 24 year old vegetarian who exercise 6 days per week, has a glass of one every evening with dinner, and is experiencing cold intolerance and fatigue, is iron-deficiency anemia. Iron deficiencies have been found to occur frequently in athletes and young adults who exercise excessively. Iron deficiency is common in those who exercise frequently because of the amount of iron that is expelled from the body through excessive sweating (Wouthuyzen-Bakker & Assen, 2015). Iron-deficiency anemia is common in vegetarians because of the lack of animal proteins consumed. Meats, including fish, red meats, and poultry, help the body absorb iron. Without consuming meat or supplementing iron through other foods or vitamins iron levels are often low in vegetarians (Beck, Conlon, & Kruger 2014). Fatigue and cold intolerance are common symptoms of iron-deficiency anemia (Lewis, Dirksen & Heitkemper, 2014). A full history and physical exam should be done for this patient in order to detect any other underlying causes. The patient should be assessed for other signs and symptoms of iron-deficiency anemia such as heart palpatations, shortness of breath, headaches, paleness, or pruritus. A complete blood count should also be done on this patient to determine the levels of serum ferritin (Callachand, 2015). One pharmacologic treatment option for iron-deficiency anemia is an oral iron supplement. By taking supplemental iron the patient will get the amount of iron needed...

...Powdered cheese, macaroni, butter, and milk combine to make up my favorite food. Macaroni and cheese can go with just about any meal, which allows me to enjoy it often. Hamburgers, chicken, even pork chops; macaroni and cheese goes well with all of them. Because of this adaptability and because of its easy preparation and convenience, macaroni and cheese has become my food of choice. Every time I feast on a hearty bowl of macaroni and cheese, I am reminded of the summers of my youth. It was then that my mother allowed me to help her with the preparation of my macaroni and cheese. I soon discovered that macaroni and cheese is one of the easiest of foods to prepare. After bringing water to a boil, place macaroni in and wait until it is at your desired consistency. Once that is done you strain the noodles; place them back in the pot, then mix in cheese, butter and milk. Now the only thing left to do is enjoy the meal that you just prepared. Besides the convenience to make macaroni and cheese, this food is economically convenient because it will not lighten your wallet. There are exceptions to this, of course, but for the most part it will cost you about a dollar for a box, and you then have an entire meal. This inexpensiveness is extremely convenient, especially for the college student like myself. I personally have a steady supply of this cheesy delight in my room at all...

...The Pesky Goat Doña Josefina lived on the outskirts of Ciáles, a small town in the highlands of Puerto Rico. Her tiny house was as spotless as a porcelain teacup. Although she lived alone, except for her dog, Ladrón, and her cat, Misifú, Doña Josefina was too busy to ever be lonely. She spent all her waking moments tending her beloved garden. Doña Josefina was known throughout the island for her mano santa--the blessed hand that turned all plants she touched into breathtaking specimens of splendrous color and robust good health. In the garden, she grew prize-winning roses and orchids, hibiscus and hydrangea, and dozens of jewel-colored flowers that grow only in the tropical climate of the lush Caribbean Islands. The garden air was forever perfumed with the scent of roses and honeysuckle. Since Doña Josefina had no children of her own, she watched over her garden as a mother watches over her children. Each of her flowers was precious to her. She thanked God daily for the gift of being the caretaker of such a delightful paradise. During the day, her paradise attracted butterflies and hummingbirds, bees and ants, and nightingales whose song was as sweet and pure as the water from a secret spring. At night, the garden attracted worms and toads and coquíes, tiny Puerto Rican tree frogs. One unfortunate night, the garden paradise also attracted a pest. The next morning, Doña Josefina noticed, much to her distress, that...

...In the play “The Goat or Who is Sylvia” directed by Edward Albee I find that out of the four characters I can most identify with Ross. A couple reasons that I can identify most with Ross is because I have good friends who can tell me anything, I try to get my friends to open up, and I speak my mind to my friends. Sometimes my friends tell me things that they have done and it stuns me because it’s almost too hard to believe what they are telling me are true. In the play Martin is telling Ross about how he had sex with a goat and Ross is shocked. Martin must feel very open to telling Ross anything because he hadn’t even told his wife what had happened with the goat. I have a couple friends who I am so close to that they will tell me things that they wouldn’t tell there significant others. Ross is a person that Martin can trust a lot, so much that he can tell him anything. I feel like my friends would identify me in the same way as Martin does to Ross. My friends always tell me how good of a friend I am and that they can tell me anything because they know I will care. Another way that I am similar to Ross is that I try to pry into my friends lives and make them be open with me. Ross came over and insisted that Martin tell him about his affair and love for the goat named Sylvia. Martin hesitated to tell him and wasn’t getting to the point. Ross kept interrupting telling Martin to get to the point and explain what happened. I try my best to listen to my friends when they are...

You don’t need to complete the program. What you need to do is to work on the logic and perhaps some key parts of each program and then complete them in the lab. Prelab activity for Lab 5A: Find the difference between two types of returning values. Implement the following function prototypes (which take hours of work as integer and the rate of pay as float and calculates the net-payment as float) on paper. Also, write a main function which calls both functions. Compare the calculated net values and show the proper message whether or not they match. Name your variables as hours, rate, and netPay. float calNetPay(int, float); void calNetPay2(float&, int, float); Also, answer the following questions: What does the operator & do? Create a table and put all of the variables of the program inside the first column. The second column should show the scope of each variable. For example for calNetpay2 function if you called the integer variables hours, its scope will be...
