...workplace is like many other organizations, through the different levels of chain of commands. The employees deal with the debtors which would be the clients majority of the time. The debtor is the person that you call to collect a debt from over the phone everything is done solely over the dialer pole. As collection representatives we collect debt for many different companies. There are many different teams within the company, it just depends on where you are seated what team you will be a part of. The team that I was assigned to was the Tuesday crew. On the Tuesday crew we came in later than everybody that day and left later. This group consisted of fourteen employees, two squad leaders, and a manager. On the other days you was regular work days and you communicated with everybody from the squad leaders, manager, to the boss, and other employees that was not a part of your crew. It was a small net family not a big cooperation. The communication between the employees was limited, just because most of your time was spent on the phone taking or making calls. In our organization gender was not a big factor. The two owners of the company were male and a female, so labor was balanced. The job is not hard labor so everybody has the same task. Depending on your position did you do different jobs, and these were filled by both male and female employees. The cultural differences in our company were very important. Speaking Spanish and English was a big advantage in our company. If you...

...different ways. One of the leading experts in management, Peter Drucker was said, “The only definition of a leader is someone who is a follower” (Kruse, 2013). Bill Gates once said, “As we look ahead into the next century, leaders will be those who empower others” (Kruse, 2013). The actual definition of leadership is the state or position of being a leader (McGraw-Hill, 2003). Power is defined as one person’s control over another person (Baumeister & Bushman, 2013). The idea of being in power is a strong influence on people’s behavior. It is addicting. Most people who have power seek to gain more power. Look at Adolf Hitler. He grew to power in Germany and decided he wanted more so he made a plan to take over the world. He was a powerful man but a ruthless leader which made people fear him instead of respect him. A good leader gains power through the respect of others. A great leader is an effective leader who uses his power to encourage and he gains the respect of others by being respectful toward those below him. There is a connection between power and leadership. If a manager is power hungry and treating others as his slave for his own gain then he is a bad leader. If a manager uses his power of authority to encourage his team to increase productivity so that they all look good then he is a great leader. There is not a way to be an effective leader if you do not have the power to “control” those around you. When I say “control” I am not speaking in terms...

...History of Spotify Inc. The story behind Spotify’s success is similar to many companies that go on to achieve great things: it dramatically changed the industry, reducing illegal file-sharing. Spotify had been in development since 2006, by a company in Sweden called ‘Spotify AB’. It was founded by Daniel Ek, who was formerly the CEO of Stardoll, and Martin Lorentzon, co-founder of TradeDoubler (Streatfield, 2015). The name Spotify was decided using a combination of the words “spot” and “identify”. The Spotify application was launched on 7th October 2008. Whilst free accounts remained available by invitation to manage the growth of the service, the launch opened paid subscriptions to everyone. At the same time, Spotify AB announced licensing deals with major music labels (The Spotify Team, 2008). In 2009 Spotify capitalized on its popularity by raising $50M and launching the mobile app. Spotify raised a lot of capital early on so it could pay off the record labels and pre-license plays from the major label catalogues. In 2011 Spotify announced 1.3M paid subscribers, 3M active users and it launched in the US. In 2012 Spotify was integrated with Facebook showing what consumers listened to, to their friends. In 2013 Spotify announced 20M active users and 5M subscribers (Streatfield, 2015). In 2014 the company launched discounts for students and family plans, and Taylor Swift removed all of her albums from Spotify due to the low royalties associated with streaming. In 2015 Spotify...

...into a military family. My father recently retired as a Colonel in the United States Army. I guess you can say that I have learned a lot about leadership from him alone before I experienced being a leader myself. He taught me about accountability, respect, responsibility, fairness, and so much more. I grew up pretty much an only child. My three younger siblings did not grow up with me, so I would say that I matured faster than most of my friends. At a young age, I was able to take accountability for my actions, make right decisions and understand the consequences of my wrong doings, and taking initiative when it came to my work. I was first given the opportunity to be a leader my junior year of college when I was a part of the...

...English Homework. 19/2/14 During times of great hardship and sadness throughout the U.K, there lived a young 9 year old boy named AJ. He had a rough childhood, growing up on the streets of a depressing and crime-ridden council estate in South London, only having his mother and older sister to take care of him (since unfortunately his father was a victim to a seemingly normal gang murder, with 5 members of the notorious crew named ‘Terror Squad’ being the identified suspects of a reported vengeance attack. After it was confirmed that AJ’ father owed the crew’s kingpin leader £10,000 after losing a bet, in which he fled and tried to evade not paying. But time finally caught up with him and he’s now gone.) However, AJ’ sister (a couple of years later) left the still grieve-stricken family in order to head to university in York and pursue her dreams of becoming a successful nurse for hospitals not just in England but around the world. All in order to hopefully enough gain money to send to her beloved family and rescue them from further painful and suffering times laying ahead of them at the hands of cold-hearted criminals in the rough council estate known as Trey Lane. Due to AJ’ father and now his sister both leaving the Stewart household, AJ’ mum has now resulted to using addictive and life-threating drugs such as cocaine and heroin all in order to supress the pain and worrying of problems her and her family will face such as debt, crime and even death threats Who is there to...

...Cheerleading 101 Cheerleading began for me at the age of twelve. In the past I had played soccer, basketball, softball, did ballet. Basically every activity my mom could possibly put me in. All of those activities were okay, but cheerleading became something that was special to me. I first began cheering in middle school for the Hazelwood West Junior Wildcats. I cheered on the team throughout middle school literally dedicating all of my free time to cheerleading. I lived, ate, and dreamed cheer. I went on to continue cheering throughout my high school career, cheering for all Hazelwood West athletics, including: soccer, football, basketball, and wrestling. I was a hardcore dedicated athlete, and I had spirit like no other. From traditional sideline cheerleading to competition cheerleading I have really done it all. Being a top- notch cheerleader did not come easy at all though. It took dedication, practice, and determination. In cheerleading the most important thing is motion placement. As noted by the National Cheerleading Association, motions must be sharp, strong, and neat. (National) These motions come into play in more than just cheers and sidelines you perform. They are in the dance move that you will execute and the stunts you intend on hitting. Proper arm placement is also a must. You want to avoid things like cocked wrists, bent arms, and overextension of the arms. The basic motion of a cheerleader is the ready position, which is hand behind your back with your feet...

...Doe Zantamata once said “Don’t fan the flames of despair. Light a spark of hope instead.” In the sensational book The Return of the King, many times do the characters “light a spark of hope” in the hearts of others. And the cool thing is that this can happen in real life, too! Hope, when planted in the right spot, can light a fire in someone's heart propelling them to accomplish their goals. But sometimes, sacrifice can give greater hope than anything else. When my Great-Grandpa was serving in World War I, him and his squad was pinned down by a German MG 08. His leader told the squad to stay put and run when he jumped up to attract the attention of the gunner. He jumped up and saved the mission as the rest of his team crawled away. Sadly,...

...their allegiance to a city. Oftentimes, Chiefs are appointed by the Mayor of a city; or, they may be appointed by or subject to the confirmation of a Police Commission. Being a chief in a large city or county sheriff is a very challenging profession and rank. They are the leaders that control a squad. The three skills that are required of a police chief in a large city or a county sheriff would be: communication skills, leadership, and management skills. A police chief must have good communication, because they are the head of the department. When an officer needs help to address a situation the chief takes the officer place to address the situation with the individual. They have to know what to say at the right given time to the right person. According to Greene (2007), “The chief, as a communicator, must build lines of communications not only within the police department but among the community and other government entities” (p. 930). Being a chief holds great responsibility, since the public hears what the chief says on the news. The community looks for answers that the police cannot give. Another skill that a chief in a large city or county sheriff needs is good leadership skills because they must be the leader and set an example to their fellow officers. They must developing innovative policing strategies, evidence-based policing initiatives, organizational accountability and neighborhood-based policing strategies, while leading organizational changes. They are held as role models...

...City is an example of a failed business. They were leaders in business for 60 years. Due to certain actions of management, this electronic retail giant, who was once the nation’s second largest electronics retailer was forced into bankruptcy on November 10, 2008 . 1 Circuit City’s success was built on a culture of discipline that practiced and followed the “4-S” model (service, selection, savings, satisfaction). “It was because of this consistency that Circuit City took off in the early 1980’s and beat the general stock market by more than 18 times during the next 15 years” (Collins, 2001). The slowly declining economy, housing market, limited available credit, unemployment rates, and increased competition compounded and accelerated the repercussions of the pre-existing problems that Circuit City faced started years before. Internally, Circuit City was already suffering from several years of declining sales. The Circuit City organization “made fatal mistakes which resulted in one of the most significant business failures in retail history. These mistakes undermined their own progress and ultimately killed them” (Eames, 2009 ). Today, many business leaders use this once thriving organization as a guideline to understand, analyze, and highlight how to avoid these mistakes and failures in their companies . After many years of being one of the electronics industry top players, the organizations leaders and management became complacent and arrogant in their...
