...The Great Gatsby, F Scott Fitzgerald Chapter 6 Color Analysis May 24, 2011 Jay Gatsby | -“torn green jersey” (104): The color green symbolizes wealth and money. At this time in the book, Gatsby is working for Dan Cody, the guy who greatly supplies his wealth. The fact that the jersey is torn signifies the hard work that Gatsby demonstrates which then leads to him reaping the benefits of hard work. This section furthers to talk about his parents and how they were “unsuccessful farm people” also that Gatsby “was a son of God.” This is to say that although Gatsby’s parents were hard workers, they were unsuccessful in reaching their ideal “American dream”. Gatsby is currently making those dreams happen. He was helping to complete his father’s business, and is therefore relatively “a son of God.”---- The green jersey also symbolizes the new life that he yearns for that is full of wealth. Right at this stage in the book, Gatsby is called different names: Gatsby, James Gats, Jay Gatsby, young Gats: Each name recognizes a different stages of growth towards the Wealthy life.-“His brown, hardened body lived naturally through the half fierce, half lazy work of the bracing days.” (104): Brown is the color of earth, and of “getting down and dirty”. It further symbolizes the humility Gatsby underwent while with Dan Cody. Because the idea of wealth plagued Gatsby (“his heart was in a constant turbulent riot.”), he reaped the fruit of his labor as discussed with the color change discussed...

However, little is known so far about the magnitude of this phenomenon, about its geographical boundaries, and about the underlying motivations. In this paper a characterization of back-shoring as part of the dynamics of firms’ internationalization strategies is offered. Next, building on emerging empirical evidence, open questions are identified and an agenda for research is proposed. ...2013). Perceptual Priming Perceptual priming is just one of the many different methods that can be used to prime an individual. Mas, Kuhnel, Reichelt, et. al (2013) recently experimented the effects of perceptual priming. The researchers found that if a participant was exposed to part of a (colored) picture in the beginning of the study, subjects were more likely to recognize the photo later on in the study compared to participants who were primed with a gray-scaled photo. Based on this research, being exposed to part of a picture but seeing the same picture as a complete later on in the study is considered to be perceptual priming. The researchers found supporting...

...questions are asked by America and there is always conflicting answer to go with those conflicting question. This paper will be analyzing the conflicting reason why people what or do not want immigrates in America using conflict diagnoses and the conflicting resolution of the immigrations conflict in America. Conflict diagnosis will be cover a number of things like describing the conflict, identify the cause of the conflict, analyze interests, Characterize the conflict, Consider trust, Identify impediments to settlement, Identify/maximize the Best Alternative To a Negotiated Agreement (BATNA), and Consider diversity issues (Zee Pedia , 2014). This conflict of can be described as the American people vs the American people, the American people vs the American government, and the Immigrants vs the American government these are all the parties involved in this conflict. Next step is to understand why each group believes in what they believe to cause the conflict. Why do immigrants what to come to America so bad, so bad to risk not only their lives but their children and their wives/mothers lives? Most immigrants say the same thing “Immigrants chose to come for various reasons, such as to live in freedom, to practice their religion freely, to escape poverty or oppression, and to make better lives for themselves and their children (Arizaga, 2006)” When it comes to the reason why Americans do what immigration/immigrants in Americas has been the same reason for years immigrants have built...

Introduction Buying cars is one of the most critical things in our life. We need to research different categories before we spend our dollars, and we must establish buying guides. Examples of the buying guides are: 1) I have to know exactly how 2) I have to know what car I want and what car meet my criteria. These guides will help us decide how much you can afford to spend, whether you should look at a fancy car or regular car, whether you should look at car with grand tourer (GT) or without grand tourer, style, transmission type and a myriad of other factors. The borderline that we agreed on as a team is the car reliability, quality, performance, and power. On this specific case study we would like to study...

Human eye: * Distance between the lens and retina is fixed. * Focal length for proper focus obatained by varing the shape of the lense. Question: All the center squares hv exactly the same intensity. However, they appear to the eye to become progressively darker as the background becomes lighter. Why? Other example? Answer: The human visual system tends to undershoot or overshoot around the boundary of regions of different intensities. e.g. Although the intensity of the stripes is constant, we actually perceive a brightness pattern that is strongly scalloped, especially near the boundaries. Therefore, perceived intensity is different from the actually intensity. e.g: a piece of paper that seems to be white when lying on a desk, but can appear totally black when used to shield the eyes while looking directly at a bright sky. 2 Matrix and Pixel: ● Matrix is the result of sampling quantization and , which is a matrix of real numbers. ● Each element of the matrix array is called an image element, picture element, pixel, or pel. ...discussion that will have you chasing your tail! It's truly a trap debate because the right answer is "it depends". Whether it's a completely strategic discussion about your organization's policies or a discussion involving a specific position and candidate, this issue continually resurfaces at organizations. And depending on what side of the fence you sit, this issue can be very personal and emotional. Obviously, there are specific cases where the question is debatable. If you need a registered professional engineer to approve plans, the degree requirement is a given. If you're a hospital looking for a surgeon, you're probably seeking someone with a PhD in medicine. However, the scope of positions that may or may not require a degree gets gray pretty fast, and the span is pretty wide. And, no industry is immune to this issue. Keywords: experience, degree, organizations, policies, professional, requirement, industry. Education or Experience? It Depends. Take this scenario: Bob and Joe are both applying for the same job. They each interview well, but Bob has 15 years’ experience and no college degree, and Joe is fresh out of college with no experience. Who gets the job? The answer is: it depends. Here are some factors to consider when it comes to the battle between education and experience. Career Field There are some careers where experience is preferred over education and vice versa. In sales for instance, having a track record of dollars brought into the company will...

...Lisa Lyons Professor Amy Green Writing about Literature COM1102 10 October 2015 "A ROSE FOR EMILY" Visual vs. Reading William Faulkner's "A Rose for Emily" is a short gothic horror story that has also been adapted into a short film. Both story and film have been largely debated, with a plethora of opinions. Faulkner’s lack of normal chronology and situation-triggered memories generates a story that has many interpretations among its readers, but surprises everyone at the end. When asked about the title of his story, Faulkner said," [The title] was an allegorical title; the meaning was, here was a woman who had had a tragedy, an irrevocable tragedy and nothing could be done about it, and I pitied her and this was a salute . . . to a woman you would hand a rose." (Faulkner, William 1966 ;) He gave a humble explanation, for such a complex story. The film portrays the story straight forward, and leaves nothing left to the imagination. Death and transformation are the main theme in Faulkner’s short story, being a sign of the crumbling of the Old South after their military defeat by the North, as Emily’s suggested necrophilia echoes the desire to hang on to the past and its traditions. Through flashbacks and foreshadowing, Faulkner addresses the struggle of traditional versus progress in the city of Jefferson. The south being a region bound by history and tradition, class and social influence, Emily represents, to...

...Social Media’s Impact on Business Ethics Introduction: The discussion of ethical problems associated with social media in the workplace is a relatively new occurrence. Approximately ten years ago technology entered a new phase evolving from the internet and email to an entirely different era (Ramos-Hernadez, 2007). Suddenly people who normally worked a 9 to 5 shift leaving work to transition into their personal lives. Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, and Flicker to name a few changed all of that (Ramos-Hernadez, 2007). People who ordinarily kept a strict barrier between the two worlds were putting all sorts of their personal information out in the open for all to see. The data for all to see included not only the intended recipients, but their employers or most important perspective employers. Horror stories immediately started to pop up all over the world. People were being fired because their boss saw vacation pictures from Cabo when you had taken time to go see your ailing grandmother. The pictures from your freshman year in college showed up on a friends account and subsequently took you out of the running for your dream job or promotion. The technology literally erased any expectation of keeping your business and personal lives separate if you chose to participate in social media circles. New Employee Categories Recent studies have been led by the Ethics Resource Center (ERC) one of the oldest non-profit organizations in the U.S. that has historically been dedicated...
