Halloween Persuasive Speech

Halloween is an evening preceding Allhallows and is marked by pranks and celebrations by young people. Asher Woodworth, a 30 year old man, in an attempt to “impact people’s natural choreography” decided to dress himself up in a tree and “plant” himself in the middle of the road. This was his way of celebrating Halloween.
However, this prank did not go so well for him. After a couple of hours the police of Portland received a call from a driver who expressed his frustration on the road due to the traffic that this “Tree Man” was causing. Hours later Woodworth was arrested and taken to the Cumberland County jail where at first he refused to cooperate by saying his name but later gave in.
It is absolutely unethical to obscure traffic in a place

Halloween Persuasive Speech

...This weekend was Halloween, and I saw many children in inappropriate costumes at young ages. I asked one of my mom’s students what she was, even though I knew, and she responded with I am a “slutty witch”. This child is only in fourth grade and that’s what her parents allowed her to dress up as. I find it out of control nowadays how each generation is dressing more inappropriately then the last. Halloween is supposed to be fun for the kids. They get candy and have a blast with their friends. This holiday is not for nine year olds to dress like they are twenty-nine year olds. I feel like parents are allowing their children to dress like this because they do not want to argue or maybe it’s because they adult themselves is a young parent. I...

Halloween Persuasive Speech

...Halloween, a.k.a the time of year were little kids pretend to be something they’re not and ask strangers for candy (one of my favorite holidays, shall I add). But there are definitely certain things you should know before you hit the streets. And don’t even try to tell me you’re too old to trick or treat; one is never “too old” to feel the joy of retrieving a full sized Hershey’s bar (full sized! I mean what’s better than that I ask you, what’s better?) and eating colored sugar until you face the almost inevitable Halloween vomit. I can’t wait for Halloween 2017! The first thing most news sites want you to know regarding Halloween is that several shady folks (don’t question the word choice) spend their time unwrapping candy, drilling tiny holes in candy, and inserting tiny razor blades and/or drugs into an unsuspecting non-name brand mint. Yes, this happens, and yes, this is a threat. I’m sorry for ruining Halloween....

...MASS MEDIA EFFECTS In partial fulfillment of the requirements of Theories of Communication (LAC 701) A paper prepared by Group Four John Fasisi (91817) Kalim Gazal (136615) Moyofade Ipadeola (95580) Nwachukwu Egbunike (147181) Oluwaseun Oti (168137) Seyi Bodunde (168139) Victor Eze (167521) And submitted to: Professor F. A. Adesanoye Department of Communication and Language Arts Faculty of Arts University of Ibadan November 27, 2012 ABSTRACT This literature-driven study examined mass media effects. The work peered into the history of the ‘powerful media’. An in-depth review of relevant theories of mass media effects was analyzed. Findings pointed towards both positive and negative impacts of mass media. However, there was no empirical evidence to substantiate a direct cause and effect relationship of mass media messages with the actions of the consumer of the information. Consequently we can only assert that the mass media impacts on society but does not necessarily have an effect since other factors also influence people other than information consumed from the media. As such, this study asserts that the mass media influences public opinion but does not necessarily cause it. Key words: powerful media, mass media effects, theories of mass media effects, impact of media messages INTRODUCTION The mass media involve organisations that are responsible for the dissemination of information to a large number of people. Basically, the mass media...

Then, look up all the words and their definitions in our 3,500 Basic Word List. Pay particular attention to the words you thought you knew. See whether any of them are defined in an unexpected way. Living History

...___________________________ LIVING HISTORY Hillary Rodham Clinton Simon & Schuster New York • London • Toronto • Sydney • Singapore To my parents, my husband, my daughter and all the good souls around the world whose inspiration, prayers, support and love blessed my heart and sustained me in the years of living history. AUTHOR’S NOTE In 1959, I wrote my autobiography for an assignment in sixth grade. In twenty-nine pages, most half-filled with earnest scrawl, I described my parents, brothers, pets, house, hobbies, school, sports and plans for the future. Forty-two years later, I began writing another memoir, this one about the eight years I spent in the White House living history with Bill Clinton. I quickly realized that I couldn’t explain my life as First Lady without going back to the beginning―how I became the woman I was that first day I walked into the White House on January 20, 1993, to take on a new role and experiences that would test and transform me in unexpected ways. By the time I crossed the threshold of the White House, I had been shaped by my family upbringing, education, religious faith and all that I had learned before―as the daughter of a staunch conservative father and a more liberal mother, a student activist, an advocate for children, a lawyer, Bill’s wife and Chelsea’s mom. For each chapter, there were more ideas I wanted to discuss than space allowed; more people to include than could be named; more places visited than could be described...

...C h a p t e r 1 Prewriting GETTING STARTED (OR SOUP-CAN LABELS CAN BE FASCINATING) For many writers, getting started is the hardest part. You may have noticed that when it is time to begin a writing assignment, you suddenly develop an enormous desire to straighten your books, water your plants, or sharpen your pencils for the fifth time. If this situation sounds familiar, you may find it reassuring to know that many professionals undergo these same strange compulsions before they begin writing. Jean Kerr, author of Please Don’t Eat the Daisies, admits that she often finds herself in the kitchen reading soup-can labels—or anything—in order to prolong the moments before taking pen in hand. John C. Calhoun, vice president under Andrew Jackson, insisted he had to plow his fields before he could write, and Joseph Conrad, author of Lord Jim and other novels, is said to have cried on occasion from the sheer dread of sitting down to compose his stories. To spare you as much hand-wringing as possible, this chapter presents some practical suggestions on how to begin writing your short essay. Although all writers must find the methods that work best for them, you may find some of the following ideas helpful. But no matter how you actually begin putting words on paper, it is absolutely essential to maintain two basic ideas concerning your writing task. Before you write a single sentence, you should always remind yourself that 1. You have some valuable ideas to tell your reader,...
