In my this day in history I will be explaining Houdini’s love for aviation or flying, and I will be talking about the plane that he bought and what he did with it, and how many times he crashed and survived. I will also talk about when and where he set his world record in flying which was 6 miles 7 minutes and 31 seconds. I will also talk about the argument that happened between Houdini and sir Arthur Conan Doyle which made them stop talking to each other, and I will also talk about how sir Arthur Conan Doyle helped Houdini in his acting career and magic tricks that included resurrecting the dead. Harry Houdini was born on March, 24 1874 in Budapest Hungary, his real name was Ehrich Weisz aka by his stage name Harry Houdini was one of six children, his father Rabbi Mayer Weisz was married to his second wife Cecilia Steiner when they immigrated to the United States in 1876 with the dream of a better life, he started working as a rabbi or a Jewish scholar, he changed his last name to Weiss. In 1876, the rest of the family joined him in the United States.
The family moved to Milwaukee the largest city in the State of Wisconsin. When Houdini was eight years old he used to sell newspapers and shine shoes to help support the family. He made his first appearance on stage on October 28, 1883. He was nine years old and he performed a trapeze act. At the age of twelve he hopped on a freight car and ran away from home. A year later he returned to New York and continued to help support his family by working as a messenger, necktie cutter, and a photography assistant. At the age of twenty Houdini began to perform magic acts on the streets of New York. He earned his fame by escaping police handcuffs and jails, through years he soon joined the circus and started perfecting his act in which he escapes from chains. Houdini started acting in movies such as the Man from Beyond in 1922, The Grim Game in 1919, Terror Island in 1920, Haldane of the Secret Service in 1923.
Houdini began his career as a famous escape artist with a trick called “Metamorphosis”.
An assistant would lay in a locked box and then switch places within seconds after the curtain was raised, He married his assistant Bess later on, they performed magic tricks for 26 weeks in 1895 with the Welsh Brothers Circus. Harry pursued his hobby which was escaping handcuffs.
