...philosophical proposition and one could disagree with his philosophical proposition. One could agree with St. Augustine’s philosophy “For we have out existence from God, and it is from him that we deserve punishment for doing wrong and reward for doing good” by analyzing biblical texts and having strong Christian beliefs. This claim can be interpreted that in the end of one’s life God will judge them at the gates of Heaven. Those who have lived a life full of good deeds will be rewarded; while those who have lived a life full of sin and wrongdoing will be reprimanded. When St. Augustine refers to those who will be punished for living a bad life one could interpret it that he asserts that person will receive his punishment in hell. Hell is a place of torment and punishment in an afterlife for people who have committed serious sins for which God will not allow them through the golden gates of Heaven. Heaven is a common religious place where people who lived a righteous life can spend their afterlife and rejoice with deceased friends and family. There are many different religions that assert the existence of these places. Some sins are so evil that a punishment on Earth is not worth enough, if one is sentenced to death on Earth they should continue to be reprimanded for their...

...In society today, we seem to focus on one thought when it comes to religion. “What can I do to get into heaven?” We want to know what the minimal effort it takes, so that we can do things that are more important to us. Yet, there is never a straight answer in the Bible that tells us the amount of work we must do in order to live eternity with Our Father. Therefore, we go through life putting in effort here or there to insure a constant Christian appearance without inconveniencing ourselves. There are many verses that deal with what a Christian must face in order to reach heaven. Matthew 7:13-14 expresses that Christian life is not easy but filled with hardship. This verse eventually evolves into the name and definition of Early Christians which...

...Other societies don’t even have the ability to go to heaven. The prophecy has been written before any of you were born. Perfeczion has the lifestyle of the way greeks and goddess lived before christ but with a little moderation. The environment has the way of living God has intended for his people before the story of genesis. However, your idea of perfect, doesn’t even come close to Gods image of perfect. So prepare yourselves to experience heaven, either by living or dying. Furthermore, Perfeczion has the ability to be perfect only if everyone cooperates. Cooperating doesn’t mean just following the rules, but also forces you to be kind to...

...When you think of a Religion most would never think of it as a Cult but, I ask the question “Could a religion actually be considered a cult?” A few religions that we have studied in class have actually been considered a cult at one point in history, either many years ago, or very recently. What intrigues me about this is: the definition and characteristics of a cult or religion, what groups/religions have been considered to be a cult, and why do we think that a cult is not considered a religious group. Some characteristics of a cult are: that the leader of the cult becomes the person worshiped instead of a god, there is more control and power from the leader over the cult, and third, the cult can contain sexual exploitation and abuse....

...Hindu Worldview Mildred Gates Liberty University Hindu Worldview There are a total of 900 million Hindus worldwide, making Hinduism the third largest religion. Hinduism has no founder or date of origin. While gathering information about the religion I found it to be a bit confusing and contradicting. Question of Origin In the Hindu worldview has several myths about creation.” One being that of the Cosmic Man, Purusha who was sacrificed by the Gods to create man.” (Rig Veda) It is very different from the Biblical worldview because there is only one creation account. In the Biblical worldview there is God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. In the Hindu religion they have Brahma the Creator, Lord Vishnu the Preserver, and Lord Shiva the Destroyer. Question of Identity1 In the Hindu religion they treat all living beings from animals to the tiniest creatures with great respect. “According to Hinduism animals are not inferior creatures, but manifestations of God on the lower scale of evolution compared to man, each containing a spark of divine, capable of becoming human and achieving salvation like the rest of us.” In the Biblical worldview humans are more important than animals and one reason is that we use them for food and clothing. Question of Meaning/Purpose. The purpose of life in the Hindu worldview is to perform the proper sacrifices to the Gods. The Hindu religion has four universal goals or purusharthas that shape the meaning of...

...context ) thinking to myself that the Bible was speaking of social reversals once in heaven. The verse goes "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God" (Mk. 10-25). Before analyzing the euphemism behind the "eye of a needle", I misinterpreted the symbolism and understood the verse as if it was intentionally saying the rich are not allowed into the kingdom of heaven. Important facts about the verse that are not mentioned straight in the Bible are that the "eye of the needle" is a gate way in Jerusalem where travelers would have to walk through. In order for people to go through the "eye of the needle" with all their baggage, they would have to get rid of or take off their baggage to be able to walk through. Even now that the verse makes more sense, it is confusing to some why God would ask us to get rid of our wealth/belongings. The verse as a whole was originally not intended directly to the rich (as I later found out), but rather everyone who is too concerned with power. That could be anything from their ego, their wealth, or anything holding them back from living a life for Christ and not for this world. So the parable is showing that in order to be set apart from this world it is necessary for Christians (people who want to follow God) to leave everything that they are attached to, because it's only physical, while heaven is not. The saying "The Last will be first, and the first last" is also often difficult...

...Christopher Williams Professor Justin Ryals History Repeats My idea of Greek concepts was the configuration, understanding, and deduction of human virtues. It’s practically blatant with the continuous rise of philosophers. I chose the concepts; Arete, Sophia, Eros, Eudaimonia, and Eunomia. I chose these concepts because they are all concepts that show that people were not only trying to be good people, but the best people they could be. They put these concepts into the form of gods and gate keepers of heaven so people would strive to do right. The continuous literature and artwork put into these concepts is something you no longer see, and that is something I see wrong in the world today. The world today seems to be a very selfish and arrogant place. And I believe the return of these concepts would make life better for all. My first concept arête is seen in many different areas, such as; Achilles in the Illiad because he is the best warrior that man could be. Or, Penelope in the odyssey because she is the best wife that woman could be. The Parthenon is a prime example that Arete isn’t just held to people but also well strongly constructed building, a strong animal, or beautiful pottery. Arete means virtue or excellence of any kind. It meant living up to ones full potential. In Plato’s “Allegory Of The Cave”, the perfect form of something was its arête, what everything, and everyone is trying to get to. As Plato says,” arête is something you are always trying to achieve...

...and Islam share many similar religious beliefs. The Christian religion worships Jesus, which is the son of God (Messiah). Meanwhile, the Islam religion worships Mohammed who is considered a prophet of God. Both Jesus and Mohammed lived an enhanced spiritual relationship with God throughout their lives. Although, Jesus and Mohammed were born in completely separate eras when Judaism was a prominent religion they had the same effect on the lives of people. Furthermore, they shared valuable lessons and powerful spiritual messages of enlightenment that continue to be carried out throughout the world today. Most historians believe that Jesus was born a few years before the first year of the Common Era in Bethlehem (Fisher, 2005). Jesus’s mother Mary was a virgin when she conceived him by the Holy Spirit. Mary’s husband was Joseph, a carpenter from Bethlehem. Jesus first sense of his mission on earth was encountered when he was approximately twelve years old traveling with his parents to Jerusalem for Passover. He wondered off and was discovered by his parents in the Temple conversing with the Torah with the rabbis. His parents and rabbis were fascinated by his knowledge of the Jewish tradition and the personal connection between Jesus and God. The prophecy of the coming Kingdom of God was clear upon the baptism of Jesus by John the Baptist on the River of Jordan River (Fisher, 2005). It is believed that the gates heaven opened and the Holy Spirit was descending on Jesus like a dove;...

Despite giving a bunch of answers to the matter and at the same time the inability to give a proper one which would have satisfied everyone, humanity, is still in search for the real truth. Is there life after death? Does our existence ceased once we stop breathing? Do we experience a rebirth, or do we go someplace else? The quest for answering these questions is still on going and humanity will never stop wondering what is his purpose here on Earth and beyond. Throughout ages different explanation were provided, form ancient scriptures, to religions perspectives, from scientific proofs to real life experiences, all of them tried to give the proper answer, but as society evolved so did the answers. As new explanation did come to life, the old ones seemed more and more unreasonable. ...Compare and Contrast Essay Catholics-vs- Christians Christians and Catholics both are similar yet different at the same time. Christians and Catholics both believe that salvation is a gift from GOD through his grace and glory. Where we can receive eternal life in Heaven and are completely saved from sin and death though Gods grace and most definitely his faith. Christians believe that no matter how old someone may be, salvation comes by getting baptized no matter whom or what age an individual may be in order to receive eternal life. Catholics, on the other hand believe in salvation by getting baptized as well but only when a child is born. Catholics and Christian prayer and worship are somewhat the same by meeting and having a gathering into...

...Candace T. Cults: A Dangerous Devotion “The most dangerous lie is that which most closely resembles the truth” - Jan Groenveld This quote above is by Jan Groenveld an Australian who has her own experiences as a former member of the LDS Church which deals with Mormonism and the Jehovah’s Witnesses and was featured in Richard Guilliatt’s book Talk of the Devil. Her definition of a cult is any group that has a pyramid type authoritative figure with all teachings and guidance coming from the person at the top. The group will claim to be the only way to God and will use thought reform and mind control to keep their members. Unfortunately, after 15 years in a cult she finally realized that she was being controlled rather than controlling her own life. She wanted to let people know about her experiences in order to help others. She is so hated by the church of scientology for exposing them that her name is not even allowed to pop up under scientology on Google. In the United States, it is estimated that there are 5,000 cults that are actively recruiting people, no matter the age and walks of life. Jan Groenveld made it her mission to help people recognize cults, spiritually abusive behaviors and how to defend them from persuasion. Because the beliefs in cults are so believable people become locked into a “thinking box” which makes them unable to see the world around them. The topic that I chose to analyze is religious cults. I chose this because I thought...

...World Religion Report Your Name here HUM/130 University of Phoenix The Catholic Church has become so recognizable that there have been movies made about it. Some of the movies would include scandals that were about priest themselves or about the church hiding some secretive group that had the power to control governments. Some of the stories that have been told, included Bishops and or Cardinals that were the true governing entities over Kings in the times of old. Some of these stories talked about demonic possessions' that only the Catholic church could exorcise. Whatever the story or movie, the Catholic church has influenced millions. It is also known that the Catholic church owns many valuable items such as, ancient texts, various artwork, a library that can not be rivaled, and arguably, loads of money. Even with the "Hollywood fame" and valuables that the Catholic church may have, the Catholic religion has been rocked by scandals and persecution. Nonetheless, the church has stood their ground and continues to strive and its followers, still hold their faith to the church as sacred as ever. For the first thousand years of Christianity there was no Roman Catholicism (Roman Catholicism, religionfacts.com). There was no other denomination at that time to distinguish Roman Catholicism from other denominations. If you were Christian, you were considered catholic. Catholic which means "universal", meant that if you were Christian...

...Research Essay: Ramadan In this descriptive research essay, I will outline the history, characteristics and purposes, and festivals immediately following Ramadan (Eid-al Fitar, and Shawwal), the Islamic month of fasting. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar- lasts 29 or 30 days- and all Muslims who can participate are expected to fully stop such activities as eating, drinking, smoking and having sexual relations from dawn until sunset. I will examine the historical aspects of Ramadan including how and when Ramadan first appeared in Islam. In addition, I will discuss the practices that are associated with the holy month of Ramandan and the significances of such practices. Finally, I will discuss the festivals that follow the completion of Ramadan. As previously mentioned, Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar and all able Muslims who participate are expected to abstain from eating, drinking, smoking and having sexual relations from dawn until sunset. Ramandan is considered an holy month for muslims since it is considered the the month in which the Quran was revealed to the Prophet Mohammed by God through the archangel Gabriel. This is revealed in a passage in the Quran that states “ Ramadan is the month in which the Qur'an was sent down as guidance to humankind..” (Q. 2:183, 185). In addition, the Qur' an states that “fasting has been written down upon you (is mandatory), as it was upon those before you”. According to the...

...think about the fact that the revelations came during the last days of his life and he didn’t know when the Quran could be completed, then it can be seen that the Quran has been designed by a divine force. The word Devil and Angel, which represents two opposite sides of good and bad in spiritual realm, are repeated 88 times in the Quran. The Afterlife is the reflection of Earth. These two fundamental words of religion in the Quran are repeated 115 times each. The word HOT is repeated 4 times in the Quran. The word COLD is repeated 4 times in the Quran. The word GOOD PEOPLE is repeated 6 times in the Quran. It is interesting to note that the word GOOD PEOPLE has been repeated twice as more as compared to BAD PEOPLE in order symbolize that the mercifulness of Allah is more than his wrath. The word BAD PEOPLE is repeated for 3 times in the Quran. In the Quran, it is stated that there are 7 gates to Hell. In the Hadiths, it is stated that there are 8 gates to Heaven. The single digit difference will also show its wisdom in number of words. In Quran, the word Heaven is repeated 78 times, while the word Hell is repeated 77 times. In the Quran, the word “RASUL” is repeated for 513 times. “Rasul” is the person who has been empowered by god to tell the holy laws to the people. The number of times the names of “Rasuls” appears in the Quran is 513 times. Allah has endorsed this holy task by making sure that the word “Rasul” and its private names are held equivalent to 513 times...
