...A letter is a way to express feelings in written form. Whether delivered by hand, mail, pigeon or romantically left in a secret location, the letter may be anything from a short and simple message of love to a lengthy explanation of feelings. Letters may move through the widest range of emotions - devotion, disappointment, grief and indignation, self-confidence, ambition, impatience and resignation. It is personal and that means of, affecting, or belonging to a particular person rather than to anyone else. Why? If this letter is personal then why do I have to broadcast this letter that is meant to you? I am just a lady who mockingly says to everyone that I don’t want to break promises. Also, as much as I could, I want to stand up for what I have said and what I believe in. Sadly, I do not do that as much. I am a lady who knows how to figure out problems in the world beside mine and that’s ironic. It has been a roller coaster year and I hope you will forgive me for being too indecisive. I opened myself up to love. To love a person who reflects me, who exhibited the ideal man criterion every woman craved for when they were young but I ended up being taken for granted and I was hurt badly. From then on, I closed myself up again. I protected myself because I refuse to be hurt again even if it means I have to be the one doing the hurting. I became the most selfish person. I have been entering and leaving the room just like I’m jumping up and down. It is fast but you know what...

...of course, much like mine. My father is a baker and always came home smelling like donuts or cookie dough. His eyes are almost as blue as the sky itself and his smile will make anyone laugh with joy and love. Bret, my father, did not graduate college. But in all reality, this day in age that does not even matter anymore. He has gone so far in life and I believe this is because of all the hardship he has gone through in his life and even though the rough patches has brought him down in life from time to time, he always had a smile on and said that he will try again and again. He taught me that life will get rough and when you are at your worst, life will test you until you fight back and realize that it will all get better. He said "Time to get back up and try again." And I truly believe that is why, even as a baker in a Publix grocery store, that my dad is truly happy what he is doing. Happy because he knows that's what he loves doing, and that's all that matters. My father is tough and I've never seen him give...

...The Power of a praying parent. Stormie Omartian “Summary by Sugnét van Wyk” - 0834014517 Lamentations.2:19 “Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord. Lift your hands toward Him for the life of your young children.” We can never be “perfect” parents, but we can be praying parents. 1.Lord, make me a praying parent. PRAYER Lord, I submit myself to You. I realize that parenting a child in the way You would have me to is beyond my human abilities. I know I need you to help me. I want to partner with you and partake of Your gifts of wisdom, discernment, revelation and guidance. I also need Your strength and patience, along with a generous portion of your love flowing through me. Teach me how to love the way You love. Where I needed to be healed, delivered, changed, matured, or made whole, I invite You to do that in me. Help me to walk in righteousness and integrity before You. Teach me Your ways, enable me to obey Your commandments and do only what is pleasing in Your sight. May the beauty of Your Spirit be so evident in me that I will be a godly role model. Give me the communication, teaching and nurturing skills that I must have. Make me the parent You want me to be and teach me how to pray and truly intercede for the life of this child. Lord, You said in Your Word,”Whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive”(Matthew 21:22). In Jesus’ name I ask that be so evident in me that I will be a godly role model. Give...

...This is shown through his actions regarding Connie. Let us start with his stalking of Connie. The first time Connie sees him, he calls to her “Gonna get you, baby,” and she turns away, dismissing him (Oates 209). When a pretty girl is out in public, cat calls can come at any time in any place, however, they are usually just that; cat calls that mean nothing, and that are forgotten about by the end of the day. Arnold Friend takes the cat call to a whole new level, showing up at Connie’s house the following Sunday afternoon. What started off as a simple lewd remark turned into him tracking her down, like Arnold Friend is hunting Connie. He does not come alone. He brings his friend Ellie Oscar along, to aid in retrieving her. Connie is not worried at first; her youthful and love-seeking mind is just racing, seeing that two men have shown up at her house. She worries about her appearance for these two men, “she whispered ‘Christ. Christ,’ wondering how bad she looked,” (Oates 210). She wants to look good for them, even though she doesn’t know who they are. Connie does not recognize Arnold Friend at first, saying “I don’t even know who you are,” and “Look, I don’t even know who you are,” (Oates 210,...

...provoked to learn that her husband expected his friend, Gouvernail, up to spend a week or two on the plantation. They had entertained a good deal during the winter; much of the time had also been passed in New Orleans in various forms of mild dissipation. She was looking forward to a period of unbroken rest, now, and undisturbed tete-a-tete with her husband, when he informed her that Gouvernail was coming up to stay a week or two. This was a man she had heard much of but never seen. He had been her husband's college friend; was now a journalist, and in no sense a society man or "a man about town," which were, perhaps, some of the reasons she had never met him. But she had unconsciously formed an image of him in her mind. She pictured him tall, slim, cynical; with eye-glasses, and his hands in his pockets; and she did not like him. Gouvernail was slim enough, but he wasn't very tall nor very cynical; neither did he wear eyeglasses nor carry his hands in his pockets. And she rather liked him when he first presented himself. But why she liked him she could not explain satisfactorily to herself when she partly attempted to do so. She could discover in him none of those brilliant and promising traits which Gaston, her husband, had often assured her that he possessed. On the contrary, he sat rather mute and receptive before her chatty eagerness to make him feel at home and in face of Gaston's frank and wordy hospitality. His manner was as courteous toward her as the most exacting...

...grief. In “Home Burial”, a woman is unable to move on from the loss of her child, which results in the separation from her husband. In “The Death of a Hired Man,” a married couple express their different feelings toward a man who used to work for them and that had come home to die. In these poems, the husband and wife respond to death in different ways. As a result, they disagree with each other have difficulty understanding the feelings of their partner. Frost uses dialogue in “Home Burial” and “The Death of a Hired Man” to show us the way that death affects the world and the people in it. In the beginning of “Home Burial”, we see Amy coming down the stairs of her home. On her way down the stairwell she “look[s] back over her shoulder in some fear”(Frost 3) and turns away. Her husband sees her asks her what she is looking at, “What is it you see / From up there always—for I want to know” (Frost 6-7). It is clear that the wife is petrified of her husband as she is unable to look at him. She is also uncomfortable in his presence as “her face change[s] from terrified to dull” (Frost 9). The husband is “Mounting until she cowered under him” (Frost 11). In this line, we realize that the husband is controlling in the way that he stands over her. He looks strong and powerful while the wife looks weak and submissive. The wife tells him that even if he looks, he...
