I agree with your speculations about Mary Bibb, as I too believe that she was discriminated against and made invisible due to her race and sex. Unfortunately, issues relating to exclusion based on gender and race still exist today. In my practicum, my mentor teachers work hard to make sure that everyone feels included and has a voice in the class. However, because I am in kindergarten, not much of what we do is as a class, but the students play on their own and with others around the class or outside. As I observed the children play, I noticed that there is this division between the girls and boys, as the girls and boys are in separate groups and choose to play in certain stations that is considered more/less girly.
