...comes to not only playing but know the theory of music. In my years as a high school student I had a goal of wanting to challenge myself so I can see how far I can push my limits. I would say that the only person who truly helped me become better of what I needed to achieve my goals is my director delph, always making me do things outside of my comfort zone. I serve my time outside of school by performing in football and basketball games as well as going to festivals, school performances and this year i’ve gone to WIBC which is where I get the chance to go to seattle for about 4 days and get to play with the best high school musicians in the Western States performing with famous composers. I as well started to take music theory so I can have a better understanding of reading the music better. I would say my biggest strength would have to be playing the clarinet but what I lack the most is the theory of music, there were parts where I can’t seem to truly understand how music works when it comes to intervals or the tetrachords. If I failed on something I would most likely try to overcome it by studying or asking my teacher for help so I myself can grasp an understanding of it....

...We’ve all failed before. Some more or worse than others. bUt through our failures we learn. We fix mistakes and learn from them also. Iv’e expiernced failure, whether its not getting that ideal grade in a class or even as simple as drawing a cartoon or a soccer ball. One failure in particular that i hold onto is not mkaing the baseball team my sophmore year. I learned alot from the failure. I was coming off of my first year of high school and high school baseball. I played summer baseball but I didn’t get much playing time. Around that time my confidence level regarding my skills and ability were pretty low. I wasnt always the first choice for any of the postitions. That gave me motivation to work harder. I would finish my school worl, stay on top of my studies so I could put most of my energy into baseball. Every practice I would do more, work harder, and just go that extra mile where most of my teamates didnt go. I worked hard everyday in preparation for the tryouts, that were coming up in the following spring. During the winter we would have winter workouts almost everyday. If you play baseball for North Medford you have to be committed...

...Kaylah Hampton Mrs. Sellers English IV November 18 2013 Public vs. Private All high school seniors nationwide and even some juniors have heightened responsibility and many more difficult decisions to make. One of the main decisions is deciding on a plan for schooling after finally throwing their caps in the blue sky on graduation night. When considering and picking the most comfortable university for the student, there are many different factors to think long and hard about: seeing if the school offers the major of their choice or something that is of interest to them, deciding on a comfortably located university that fits each student's living situation perfectly, signing up and acquiring financial aid, and deciding on a public or private university. One of the factors mentioned should not be a factor at all. Students should not have to worry about struggling to afford a supposedly better education at a private instution versus a public institution. The major difference between private and public institutions is how they are funded and how they use their funds. (Public University vs. Private College) Public insitutions were mostly founded by state governments as early as the 1800s. (Public University vs. Private College) Because most public universities are founded by public funds, the tuition is significantly lower. This is where public and private institutions differentiate. Private universities rely mostly on tuition and private contributions for funding. (Public...

...Not choosing a band instrument in middle school was actually one of the best decisions I made. Selecting a rotation of different electives brought to my attention that music had become the spark of my intellectual curiosity. And from then on I was hooked as an “orchdork”. As an orchdork, I would directly relate real-life situations to the lessons and values I learned in orchestra. Especially as I get older I begin to notice the values orchestra and instilled into me through hardwork and dedication. Then, through music I was able to creatively think about the infinite possibilities in relationship to my homework. Although many great works were written before my era, the music the combinations of chords, techniques, rhythms, and melodic tunes...

...behind in math. My mother started helping me learn what I needed for math when I came home with a very low grade in math. With her help and an hour or so every night spent studying math, I managed to help get my grade higher. It wasn’t the best grade, certainly not an A, but it was still good enough that they did not try to hold me back because of it. I went on summer break that year, already not looking forward to the next school year. Towards the end of the summer, after much thinking and weighing the pros and cons, I finally came to the conclusion that I wanted to be homeschooled. I told my mother only a few days after I came to my decision, worried that she might turn me down and make me go. When I told her about wanting to be homeschooled she first let me know that I should have told her earlier, as I had only two to three weeks before school started. However, she didn’t turn me down and instead told me to give her all of the reasons that I wanted to be homeschooled, to ensure that they were good reasons and I wasn’t simply getting the back-to-school jitters. ...Fellow graduates, each of us will soon receive our diploma. In a few minutes, this occasion will culminate and soon we will go on our separate paths to our chosen fields in the quest for truth, justice wisdom and the illusive word, SUCCESS. But before we part and bid each other goodbye, let me askyou the meaning of this diploma to our parents, to teachers and to us ….graduates. What is it’s significance to our country? What is it’s relationship to the ideology of the Filipino people? Perhaps, some from this gathering have different views and conception of graduation and the diploma we will be receiving, the significance and importance of quality education to man’s life. I have a few from among a group of people who said that the diploma is a useless scrap of paper, a worthless thing that can never fill an empty stomach nowadays that our nation is suffering or experiencing a great economic as well as political turmoils, a piece of paper is no longer of great value in our present setup where the prevailing law is the survival of the fittest where the strong rules the weak and the weak follows the strong. Indeed, we canmnot fully blame those people for it might have been desperation that caused them to abandon their faith, hope, eagerness and will power to continue their struggles to pursue higher education. But let me tell you, in behalf of this year’s graduates not to lose hope, not to succumb to these failures, to this bitterness…. for life is not that cruel. The man above...
