...07/12/14 To Whom It May Concern, Art is not what you see, but what you make others see. That is one of the many quotes which relate to the word art, but this quote relates to what I am here to do. After taking the weekend to visit the Boca Art Museum, I am here to share my experiences with you. Art is something I am fond of and take a great liking to, which could be one of the many reasons as to why I enjoyed looking at the many art displays that were available, or it could also be the relation I share with these artist after spending years taking several art classes back in high school. Art is something that someone can just sit down for a minute and come up with an idea right away, well for most that is. Art is something that takes time, dedication, and effort which is rewarded later on. But these artists go over and beyond, taking their ideas to a whole different level. They envision something, and act upon it, creating something that not everyone could successfully pull off. Every single work of art was unique in it’s own way, but one of the piece managed to truly catch my eye. The title of the work was inflorescence by Bhakti Baxter, which was created back in 2006. The name actually fits this work of art very well, which I found to be rather humorous. Sometimes a name of an art piece can have no relation to what it actually displays, as opposed to those which just state what they want you to see. We do not believe that history matters,” (Crabtree.) When studying history, the idea is not just learning about dates and people of the past, but using the knowledge learned and comparing events, understanding others backgrounds, and learning from previous mistakes made. The study of history in the school curriculum receives importance because it develops the skill to assess evidence, understand the background of the older generations, and gives students experience in assessing past examples of change. Studying history refines students’ assessment skills; it helps build experience in interpreting the actions and statement of past leaders in comparison to those in our present time. They initially started out as warriors and protectors for wealthy landowners. This is partially where the name ‘samurai’ came about, meaning “those who serve”.
