...Honesty Is The Best Policy Chief Ade was a very wealthy man; he had a daughter named Morenike whom he loved so much. His wife Titi had passed away when Morenike was barely a year old; Chief had to play the role of being a father and mother to his five children. He had loved his wife of fifteen years so much and no other woman seemed able to fill the vacuum she left in his life. Chief never had any formal education due to his poor background; he had struggled and suffered all the way to the top. Hence he vowed to ensure that his children get all the formal education they would require to excel in life. Chief sent all his five children to the best schools in the country. Morenike grew up to be a very beautiful but deceitful young lady, while growing up she was heavily pampered by her older siblings. She knew that she was her father’s favorite and always took advantage of the whole situation. All through her schooling, she was never contended with her allowance, she always had to fabricate lies in order to get extra money from her father. ...Alexis Ivery Peter Dlugos Eastern Philosophy September 29, 2014 If You Don’t Have Anything Nice to Say “Honesty is the best policy”, or at least that’s how the saying goes. For centuries people have been taught that honesty is a trait of high value. While that may be true, when given the chance to keep lying or come clean, more often than not people will choose to hide behind their falsities rather than risk being exposed by the truth. People lie all the time, for self-enhancement or to simply avoid embarrassment or punishment. Growing up, I was always told to be honest; it was strictly enforced in my house. Being dishonest would always result in a consequence; I remember feeling an urge to tell the truth. My parents always emphasized being truthful with them; they even went as far as telling me that when you lie to your parents, you get canker sores. As I got older, of course I lied to them every now or then so I guess my perception of honesty has changed. I believe that honesty is fundamental to building and maintaining any relationship, however there are times when honesty isn’t the best option. I try to be as honest as possible with people but I know that I probably tell the whole truth about 30% of the time. Going into this exercise, I knew that I would have to make a concerted effort to think of different responses I could give people. My first opportunity to test out my ability to tell the truth was presented to me when my mother came into my room to ask...

...Name Professor Course Date “Is truth always the better option" From time immemorial, many people regard saying the truth as an important trait in their lives. However, at one point in life, every person lies. Most individuals have even made lying a part of their lives. Although telling the truth may be a daunting task for many, it is the most appropriate thing to do. The explanations for this are founded on the following aspects. Beinghonestprovides one with psychological peace, maintains long-term friendships, and can help build empires. Also, being honest can significantly contribute to saving a complicated situation in the end. Being truthful gives one mental peace because it prevents the torment of living with guilt for telling a lie. Consequently, one does not have to remember a lie told to someone else. Psychologists assert that most people are healthy psychologically when they know the truth. Additionally, honest build truth quickly. Stronger relationship develops when a person is honest with others. Studies show that dishonest individuals rarely get second chances as they people see them as to liars even when they tell the truth. The strongest relationships in the society are those founded on truth and transparency (Gordon 23). Lies have great potential of ruining one's friendships and families. When one fails to tell the truth, a bond is broken with those close to that person. How often people tell, the truth provides a basis for one to judge...

...they respect and show compassion for others, maintain self-respect, and always practice honesty all the time. These steps are necessary to ensure they are model citizens within the community, successful with their education, and future career. In order for them to understand these traits, the example needs to be set at home. Going back to school to finish my education sets a positive example. Since my children are my personal responsibility, then they are also my motivation to excel in college and reach that goal. Children are great listeners and impersonators. When I’m around them, I try my best not to talk in a negative tone, the last thing I need is for them to mimic my bad behavior. Practicing respect is one of the most important traits in teaching your children responsibility. According to Brokenleg (2005) “in order to raise respectful and responsible children, adults must create an environment that meet universal growth needs for belonging, independence, and generosity.” Another personal responsibility is to help my children maintain a sense of self-respect. If they can learn to respect themselves, then they can handle failure. Showing affection and compassion, valuing their input, and their accomplishments, will boost their self-esteem. Engagement in our daily routine and conversation will also help them built up their confident level. This will give them the encouragement they need to do their best at whatever life throws at them. Weather they fear responsibilities, risk...

...INTRODUCTION Personal Ethics Leadership is all about right behaviors, the right set of actions. Ethics can be defined with more than one meaning. Ethics, as a general understanding, is a set of principles to be followed as an individual. Personal ethics refer to a personal code of conduct when dealing with others. Most of the organizations will have ethics as part of their core values, in one form or the other. But how different is ethics for a person and for a leader? Emotional Intelligence It can be defined as the ability to use emotions intelligently and appropriately in different situations, combined with the ability to use emotions. Emotionally intelligent people are able to accurately recognize and comprehend emotion, both in them and in others, to appropriately express emotion, and to be able to control their own emotion so as to facilitate their own emotional, intellectual and spiritual growth. In short, emotionally intelligent people intentionally use their thinking and behavior to guide their emotions rather than letting their emotions dictate their thinking and behavior. Individual Ethics In today’s world, people can make a single decision that can have a profoundly positive or negative affect on the family, their employees, coworkers, a nation, and even on the entire world. Ethics is a set of values and principles that guide the behavior of an individual or a group. Personal ethics are different for each person but for the most part, people want to...

..."HONESTY MAY LEAD YOU TOWARDS SUCCESS, BUT SOMETIMES, DIPLOMACY IS ALSO NECESSARY TO FACE THE WORLD" Honesty is the best policy. We have always been taught this and also that to lie is a bad thing to do. There is a certain beauty in living life with honesty. While the benefits of and motivations for choosing honesty in life are many — including that truthfulness and honesty are integral to one’s sense of moral integrity — living a life of honesty ultimately means having little to regret. Living with honesty is less about persistently resorting to truth over deception, and is more about living your life in a way that is “honest” to who you are on the inside — your strengths, your gifts, and your passions, as well as your beliefs and morals. Being true to ourselves should undoubtedly help lead us to what most of us strive for in life —some form of fulfillment. For, if we stay true to ourselves and to our nature, we are all more likely to pursue something about which we are passionate; when our careers or life goals are driven by what we love, we are more likely to find that sense of fulfillment. Regardless of whether you succeed or fail, when you stay true to yourself the choices and decisions you make every day are seldom ever regretted because your motivations for those choices and decisions were not influenced by ulterior motives or anyone other than yourself. And having so little to regret from living with honesty is something truly beautiful. Honesty is one of the most important...
