...This helps the doctor five more honest and open answers. 3. What letter grade would you give yourself for the ability to communicate in a multicultural setting? Why? I honestly would give myself an A for a letter grade. The reason is that when I am in a multicultural setting I try to relate myself to the other people and try to make them feel more comfortable. When you try to relate yourself to someone that is from different culture they will feel closer to you and will try to do same thing. 4. What are your personal hot buttons? How do you feel when someone triggers one of your hot buttons? Why? Do your encounters with hot buttons make it difficult for you to communicate effectively? My personal hot buttons are when someone makes fun of my religion, it drives me crazy in the wrong direction. One other thing thing that triggers my hot buttons is if someone makes fun of my height I'm only 5'8. It makes me angry when someone triggers my hot buttons but I...

...Mall Project For my mall project I went to south hills mall. At this mall I went to four different stores. They include Hot Topic Barnes and Noble, and Journeys. I dressed in two different ways. For my dress down I dressed in sagging pants, white t-shirt, tilted hat, and Osiris shoes. For my dress up I wore khaki shorts, button up t-shirt, and Rebok shoes. The first store I went to was B+N. There was a huge difference in the way people acted in my dress up and dress down. When I went dressed down I walk into the store and got a lot of stares. No one offered to help me or anything. As I walk out the door I got stares from people as though I stole something. This part is true too as I left I opened the door for someone and they went through the opposite door. Now when I went dressed up it was a total difference. When I went in I got greeted at the door. People carried out here business and people seem to be more polite around me. To make sure it wasn’t just that store I went to Hot Topic next. Next I went to Hot Topic. Almost the exact same thing happened I went in dressed down first probably waited around for 5 to 7 minutes and there was no help given to me what so ever. No one really stared but there was no service. Then I went back in dressed up. I walk in and started checking out the t-shirts. About a minute later one of the employees came over and asked which ones I liked and stuff like that. I actually bought two shirts. For the last store I...

...Global Diversity and Inclusion at Royal Dutch Shell Royal Dutch Shell (RDS) corporation operates within the global oil and gas industry and is conducts operations in 35 countries. The corporation began restructuring efforts in early 2000s under then CEO, Jeroen van der Veer, which included incorporating a more diversified and inclusive working environment that correlated with its cross country explorations in the oil and gas market. Diversity is defined by Merriam Webster as “the inclusion of differing types of people in a group or organization.” RDS placed heightened interest on Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) by placing upper level management over programs thus giving the concept a heightened level of visibility. The center of RDS’s D&I concept were three main areas: Talent, Leadership, and Competitiveness. Within the talent concept, the theory is that in competitive career fields, the talent pool is further reduced by competing interest. RDS reasoned that by recruiting young promising and motivated talent, grooming those individuals thorough proper mentorship, training, and overall organizational involvement stands to provide positive returns to the corporation. Likewise, in fostering an environment that allows the voice of every member to be heard stands to improve the decision making abilities of leaders. Lastly, RDS became a more transparent organization through the use of its competitive approach of allowing the up and down approach of business execution to be shown. In...

...[pic] [pic] Interface Design for Computer-based Learning Environments Marshall G. Jones Northern Illinois University Email: mgjones@niu.edu James R. Okey The University of Georgia [pic] Research in the area of user interface design for computer-based learning environments (Jones, 1993) found that screen and interface design should be considered at the same time during the design and development process. Additionally, the research produced a list of interface design concepts and a corresponding list of guidelines for implementing those concepts. The concepts presented in this paper are broad issues to be considered during the design and development process. The guidelines that are associaàted with the concepts are intended to be flexible, and allow for the creativity of the individual designer, and the needs of a particular project. Names for some of the concepts were taken from an analysis of the literature in computer-based instruction (CBI), computer-based learning environments, and human computer interaction (HCI). Names for the other concepts were emic categories generated by the participants in the study. The guidelines were derived through an analysis of the literature, an analysis of six commercially produced computer-based learning environments, and interviews with the designers and developers of the six computer-based learning environments. Further research is being conducted to determine how designers and developers can implement these guidelines. If you...

...AMD VS Intel In a June addition of Tech Radar there was some discussion on the topic of which processor is better and why. There was a lot of back and forth topic on these issues, so I will try to cover what I found to be relevant in this discussion. I could boar with technical numbers of calculating and over clocking schematic but here, we will look more at the consumer side of which may or may not be better. Firstly, I noticed one major difference between the two processors and that was price. If you look at price and performance between the two you will see that the gap in cost over sees the menial performance changes. For example an AMD processor may coast $50 and deliver only slightly lower performances, where as Intel will charge almost three times the amount for slightly higher performances. Now keep in mind that we are comparing apples to apples. Because if we take into account over clocking and other performance enhancing techniques it will affect the performance/price gap that we are seeing. Another hot button issues is the fact that AMD has been trailing behind Intel for many years especial in the desktop world of performance. While AMD has promised a lot, they have simply failed to deliver multiple times on their accusations of out preforming Intel. In fact, AMD has focused their efforts into the mobile market as seen with AMD’s new line of A series CPU’s (A4, A6, A8, and A10). So with that which is best? I think it all depends on what you are looking...

These controls include: TextBox, MaskedTextBox, RichTextbox, GroupBox, CheckBox, RadioButton, and PictureBox. You will learn how to lay out a form and set various properties to change the appearance and behavior of controls. Programming topics include clearing TextBox controls, changing text color, concate INTRODUCTION Chapter 2 In-Class Project The in-class project for this chapter uses numerous controls. You will build a project form that is similar to that shown below. It will include the following new controls: TextBox MaskedTextBox GroupBox RadioButton CheckBox PictureBox GroupBox Control A GroupBox control is used to group or contain other controls. It is used to organize a form into different sections and this can make the form easier for an application user to use. Name property – most of the time you will not bother to name a GroupBox control because they are rarely referred to when you write programming code – if you were to name the control, a name such as StudentInformationGroupBox would be appropriate. Text property – displays the words in the upper left corner of the GroupBox control. If you leave the Text property blank, the GroupBox looks like a rectangle. The form above has three GroupBox controls with Text property settings of Student Information...

...children is okay? In the book Unwind by Neal Shusterman, abortion is one of the major topics. Many parents in dystopia unwind or abort their children for many different reasons. Some being bad behavior or even as a way to get closer to God, this can come off as a very controversial idea just like in society. In our world, the Pro Choice movement was a very big deal, especially in the 1900s. Abortions were technically illegal, but kept very quiet. Pro choice is very important and controversial as shown in history, present day, and in unwind. Abortion and the “Pro Choice Movement” has been going on ever since the 19th century.“It was the mid-19th century, long before abortion became the hot-button issue it is now.” The...

...to psychological issues later in life). So the question is should parents be able to stay in the country if they have children who were born here? While many believe in allowing the children of immigrants, who were born here, to stay in the U.S while their parents are deported in perfectly okay people have to think about the damage it is causing to the family. People have to think what happens to the family if the breadwinner is deported, will the remaining family members starve? Or what happens if the parents are detained while the children are at school or away, where will they go? While Immigration is and always will be a big topic of discussion in the U.S, many people have to understand that separating a family can produce major mental and financial issues which will all hurt the child in the long run. The topic of Immigration has been a hot button issue for a very long time. The number of unauthorized (illegal) immigrants in the United States has stabilized in the recent years after decades of rapid growth. According to the Pew Research Center, there are 11.3 million unauthorized immigrants in the United States and they currently make up 3.5% of the nation’s population. There are also about 7% of kindergarten through twelfth grade students who have at least one unauthorized parent, among these students eight-in-ten of them were born in the United States. Which means that if a raid does happen 79% of the children will lose a parent or both parents. The naturalization process...

...Topics in Healthcare Management Week 8 – Reflective Paper Edwards 6/20/2014 Although, the name of this course is “Topics in Healthcare Management”, I still was not sure what to expect. Little did I know we would get so in depth, covering a variety of issues. Healthcare is a hot button topic, especially with the enactment of the new Affordable Care Act by President Obama . So much is made about whether health care should be a necessity and the costs and benefits of creating a national health care system. The debate can be centered upon ethical issues as well as economic feasibility. I would agree in someone saying that economically we are taking a huge step that can have a huge impact upon the rest of American society. A lot of costs are uncertain and numbers vague, which make me very weary. But then I thought of the kids I grew up with who didn't have health care, how my neighbor would be out of school for a week or more because he couldn't afford to go to the doctors to get the right antibiotics. And if it wasn't him it was one of his brothers and sisters. I think about the amount of work I can miss while being sick for a couple days here and cringe. There are some students who cannot afford to miss weeks of school, as it sets them behind when they need all the help they can get to pass. We talked a lot about education the week before, but never considered the impact our health care system could have on it. It is the same case for a lot of issues. Being sick simply...

...more types of clothing exist than the actual number of people. With so many different alternatives of fashion, the fashion industry is trying to please too many customers with variety. There are currently various styles to choose from, and the clothes people wear categorize or label them long before they realize it. The three fashion brands that will be analyzed extensively are Chanel, Nike, and Hot Topic. These brands have apparel but are completely different in their target audience. Chanel is a prestigious high-fashion brand; Nike is a popular athletic line; Hot Topic is musically and artistically edgier with a smaller target audience between the three. With these apparel brands, a person wearing each would be labeled or even stereotyped. One wearing a Chanel’s 2012 Spring/Summer ready-to-wear designer outfit with a white jacket, lambskin dress with pearls, and a glass pearl belt would be labeled as rich, successful, and intelligent. Another wearing Nike running apparel consisting of a shirt, shorts, and footwear is someone athletic and always on the go. An individual in a Hot Topic black graphic music t-shirt with plug piercings would be stereotyped as “Goth”, tough, or edgy. 2. 2. | | | Geographic | * Located at tourist...

...Social Policy Enactment using the Constitution of the United States of America Introduction. For this research paper, we were tasked with an assignment to review the twenty-seven amendments to the Constitution of the United States of America. We were then instructed to write a one or two page paper that identified amendments, other than those that were in the Bill of Rights, that were used to achieve social policy. My objective is to identify several hot-button social policies that are routine topics of debate in our country, such as: social welfare, gun control, and voter's rights. Body. The U. S. The constitution states in Article I, section 8: The people of the states empower the Congress to expend money (for the enumerated purposes listed in Article I, section 8), provided it is done in a way that benefits the general welfare of the whole people (Social Welfare). Thomas Jefferson stated that the intent of the Amendment was to limit the...

...Melville, more known for his novels than his poetry, wrote a series of poems in which he shared his views about the Civil War. The poem is a reminder of what happened, and reminder that that are more than just two sides in a conflict. War is a tragedy that should always be a last resort, if at all. The Civil War is arguably the most defining event in American history. It certainly is in terms of defining what kind of country would exist after the war was over. If the South had won, the country would have been split into a collection of sovereign states, nothing like the indivisible nation Lincoln wanted to maintain. The United States just before the Civil War was a bomb waiting to happen. The North and South were split many topics, but the primary hot button issue was slavery. The war would end that discussion once and for all. The war lasted four years and was by far the bloodiest event in American history. More soldiers died in the Civil War all the wars America has fought in since, combined! Shiloh – A Requiem illustrates the loss and just unimaginable tragedy that was the Civil War, particularly in the Battle of Shiloh. The poem echoes the sentiment of the war, especially afterwards, when many believed the war could have been avoided, and the body count was a needless horror. “Over the field where April rain, Solaced the parched ones stretched in pain” This is a powerful piece of imagery. One can imagine the rain pouring down on the dead and the dying, the latter of which...
