The Holocaust was a gruesome and dehumanizing slaughtering of millions of innocent people. Over six million Jews died in the holocaust. These people were killed because of their race and religion, they were killed by Nazis. These people were killed in concentration camps by being gunned down, food poisoning, and just horrible living conditions in general. People in these camps were not allowed to leave and had little food and on top of that had to work hard and long hours every day. Families were separated from each other and if they managed to stayed together sometimes people would see their family members and others die right in front of them and there was nothing they could do to help them because they was very poor health care and they …show more content…
Her father owned a factory and a company that transported spices, that would soon be their hiding place for the next two years. Once World War 2 started everything was normal then Hitler took over and things started to become very bad for Jewish citizens. “Then the war came, and the Dutch capitulation, followed by the arrival of the Germans. Then things got very bad for the Jews.” Jews had to wear patches on their clothes with the Star of David, this showed that they were Jewish. “We had to wear yellow stars. I had to turn in my bike. I couldn't go to a Dutch school any more. I couldn't go to the movies, or ride in an automobile, or even on a streetcar, and a million other things.” After this Jews were being taken off the streets and put on trains and sent to concentration camps and sent the ghettos. That is when the Frank’s knew that they had to go into hiding. Anne’s family hid in her father's old factory and stayed there for two years with another family,the Van Daan’s, and a dentist. They did have people on the outside to help them get food and supplies but besides that they had no other human contact or communication outside of this small hole in the wall covered by a bookshelf that they called the annex. This meant that the family never left the annex or had a social life outside of their hiding
