...Muhammad Ali Muhammad Ali, whose birth name was Cassius Marcellus Clay, was born in Louisville, Kentucky January 17, 1942. He was named for a white, Kentucky abolitionist, Cassius M. Clay, and received the name Marcellus from his father’s name. Ali’s father, Marcellus Clay was a mural painter who did a lot of work for many churches in the community and his mother Odessa (Grady) Clay was a domestic worker. As a young boy, Cassius Clay was full of energy and carried a loud mouth wherever he went. One day when Ali discovered that someone stole his bicycle, he became enraged and made loud threatening comments by exclaiming that he would “whup whoever stole it.” Upon hearing these threats, Louisville police officer Joe Martin persuaded Ali to take out his frustration in the boxing ring rather than on the dangerous streets of Louisville. At age 12, Ali’s boxing career had officially begun. Martin started Ali working out in Louisville’s Columbia Gym, and Ali became passionately devoted to the sport. With the help of a black trainer named Fred Stoner, who taught Ali the techniques of boxing and to move with the grace of a dancer, Ali became a very skilled and deadly competitor. Between 1955 and 1960, Ali had participated in 108 bouts, in which he won six Kentucky Golden Glove titles, two National Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) championships, two National Golden Glove crowns, and received the Gold Medal in the light heavyweight division in the 1960 Summer Olympics held in Rome, Italy...

...Muhammad Ali Muhammad Ali who was originally known as Cassius Clay Jr. is an American former professional boxer, philanthropist, and civil rights activist. Considered a cultural icon, Ali was both idolized as well as vilified. It would be easiest to brag about how many championships he has acquired or fights he has won throughout his career, but Ali did not become one of the more famous people in the world by just winning numerous amounts of fights. He was a daily headline, the bigger ones outside the ring. He was complicated and unpredictable, refreshing, and controversial. He was totally against racism and wanted equality for every human being. He won a gold medal for the United States in the 1960 Rome Olympics and proudly stood on the victory stand. Later, he reportedly threw the medal into the Ohio River after not being allowed to eat in a whites-only restaurant. Ali used the heavyweight championship tile as a weapon against the social and economic injustices of his time. He became the most recognized American on the globe, his words to dictators freed hostages where military force and political authority failed and he still took the time to play with kids on the street when he came to their neighborhoods whether it was in Detroit or Zaire. He fought evil and injustice with all the tools God gave him, harder and in a bigger arena than he ever did as a boxer. Ali paid a huge cost for his beliefs without thought to his personal gain, and proved Hemingway right, "a man can...

...Intro The name Muhammad Ali is known throughout the world , and to many people he is referred to as a hero. Certain events in Muhammad's life made him into a respectable and generous person. By examining the life, contributions to the world, and how he will continue to inspire the next generation, I will prove that Muhammad Ali is an important figure. Life Boxer, philianthropist, and social activist Muhammad Ali was born as Cassius Clay on January 17, 1942 in Louisville, Kentucky. Being the first son, he was named after his father, Cassius Marcellus Clay Sr. His father painted signs and his mother Odessa Grady Clay worked as a cleaning lady, whenever they struggled with money. Considered one of the greatest athletes in boxing history, Ali showed his bravery at an early age. Growing up in the segregated south, Ali discovered and experienced racial prejudice firsthand, which likely lead to his early passion for boxing. (The making of an icon, page 7) When 12 year old Muhammad Ali went to a merchandise fair with his friend in his hometown, Louisville, they returned to get their bicycles only to discover that Muhammad's bike had been stolen. Furious, Ali reported the crime to the Columbia Auditorium. He spoke to the nearest policeman Joe Martin, who was also a boxing coach at the Columbia gym. Ali threatened to beat the victim up, but Martin suggested that he should probably learn to fight first. Ali started working with Martin to learn how to box, and soon began...

...misunderstood and misrepresented. This paper will explore the foundation and beginnings of Islam and discuss the role it has played in the lives of three significant social leaders in America: Malcom X (civil rights), Loon (rap music/entertainment, and Muhammad Ali (sports). Islam is based on the belief of one god. Islam began in the sixth century. Mecca, a city in Saudi Arabia, was growing as the new business center with a new population of wealthy people, but also with a growing division between the rich and poor. This changing situation in Mecca challenged the traditional system of Arable tribal values and social security. At that time, appeared the prophet Mohammad who preached the messages from the book of the Quran, which is the core of the religion, Islam. It was calling everybody to return to the worship of the true God and to fairness in the community. Muslims believe that God sent a revelation first to Moses (found in Hebrew Scripture, the Torah), then to Jesus Christ (the Gospel), and finally to the prophet Mohammad (through the Quran). Muhammad had told his followers that he is not the founder of a new religion, but a religious reformer like the biblical prophets who came before him. He also added that he did not bring new messages from new God, but called people back to the one true God and to a true way of life that they had forgotten or miss used. Islam is the continuity of the message of God brought by the prophets who preceded Mohammad. The Quran is...

...tissue, weighing in at around 3 pounds, contains an amazing one hundred billion nerve cells, or neurons (Philips, 2006). Its same complexity and uniqueness makes the brain tremendously delicate. Dr. Roger Landry relates that your clever brain produces nearly 10,000 new cells every day and the fact that the brain can be enhanced just as any muscle, improving memory and cognitive ability, regardless of age (2014). A trauma or injury on any part of the brain assures a conspicuous change on the individual because it is the brain that directs the human activities. Throughout history, various individuals damaged this significant organ whereby drastic changes on personality behaviors and even death became the result. Phineas Gage is one of the most famous and documented cases of severe brain injury. Gage and his crew were working on the Rutland and Burlington Railroad near Cavendish in Vermont. Gage was organizing for an explosion by compacting a bore with explosive powder using a tamping iron. According to the Neuroscience writer, Mo Constandi, “While he was doing this, a spark from the tamping iron exploded the powder, causing the iron to be propelled at high speed straight through Gage’s skull” (2006). Wade and Travis reveal that, “the iron rod enter beneath his left eye and exited through his head, destroying much of his prefrontal cortex” (2008). Related to Gage case, Teddy Poh discloses that “As a general rule, the prefrontal cortex is well known for its function in executive control...

...which is because his eldest son was named Zar (this word in Arabic means 'fragrance'). By one estimate, Abu Zar was born in 568 AD, which means Abu Zar was two years older than the Prophet Muhammad (saw). He was born to the Ghifar clan, found to the western south of Medina. They were a branch of the Banu Kinanah tribe. Quraysh clan of Muhammad (SAW) was also a branch of the Banu Kinanah tribe. Hazrat Abu Zar Ghaffari (Radhiallahu Anhu / May God be pleased with him) had belonged to an Arab tribe by the name of Ghaffar, hence his last name. Early life: Abu Zar was most unhappy about the custom of Idol-worship that was rampant in Arabia of the 7th century. He had already believed in a Supreme God and he would spend most of his time reflecting on that. Little is known of his life before his conversion to Islam. Abu Dharr is said to have been a serious young man, an ascetic and a monotheist even before he converted. Hadiths mentioning his virtuous status: * Muhammad (SAW) is reported to have said, "Neither has the sky shaded one more truthful and honest than Abu Dharr nor has the earth had anyone walk over it like him. (In these matters) he is like Isa bin Maryam." (From Tirmidhi). * Muhammad (SAW) also said, "Abu Dharr walks on earth with the piety of Isa bin Maryam (Jesus son of...

...began in 632 CE following the death of the Prophet Muhammad. The main events of the civil war technically took place from 656-661 CE, however, in order to understand these events properly, it is necessary to recount the context and setting in which these events took place. In 644, after a ten-year reign, the second caliph ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab was assassinated in Medina as he was leading a prayer in the mosque. He was reportedly killed by a Christian slave named Abu Lu’lu’a who was upset by a tax imposed by the caliph. Upon realizing that his wounds were fatal, ‘Umar did not appoint a successor but rather appointed a council, or shura, to choose the next caliph. This council consisted of a group of six Muslims which included ‘Uthman ibn Affan, ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib, ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf, Zubayr ibn al-‘Awamm, Talha ibn ‘Ubaydallah, and Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas. This small group was to choose a ruler amongst themselves. It was a tightly knit group, all early converts from the Quraysh tribe who had together endured a decade of persecution in Mecca, a decade of war against Mecca, and had just emerged from a decade of victorious conquests under ‘Umar’s leadership. With the hindsight of history and in an attempt to explain the later schisms within Islam, commentators would try to divide this group into competing factions. This doesn’t really work, for by 644 the interconnections between these six men had become too intimate and intricate. ‘Ali, Zubayr, and Sa’d were all cousins of the Prophet...

These repeated head blows have been shown to have an increased risk factor for Alzheimer's disease. A well-known form of dementia, CTE causes a degenerative disease that has been linked to impulse control problems, confusion, memory problems, impaired judgment, depression and progressive dementia. Despite how this can affect a fighter's brain health, people continue to treat. In a study from the Professional Fighters Brain Health Study, 224 professional fighters and 93 boxers had been involved in the study. They looked at these athletes between 18 and 44, and they looked at how long these professionals had fought. It averaged out to around four years with 10 matches each. When it came to race, 89 were white 59 were black and 76 were from other races. Researchers compared the athletes who had similar education levels, but they did not have a history of brain injury....

...Bradly VanCamp Super-Cam Anyone that enjoys football enjoys the excitement that comes with the game. A lot of the excitement that comes with football is the touchdowns. After touchdowns, it has become customary to celebrate. These celebrations have become more tame over the years, thanks to Commissioner Roger Goodell and his anti-fun ways. Long gone are the days of using the pylon to play miniature golf or stashing a cell phone under the goal post and making a phone call. The most extreme celebration one will see nowadays is a little dance or giving the football to a kid in the crowd. Unfortunately, the media and many other people are trying to make big deal about Cam Newton celebrating his touchdowns with his signature superman celebration and then giving the ball to a kid in the crowd. This would not be a problem, except that the media is setting a double standard by cracking down on Cam Newton, who happens to be African American, and not cracking down on guys like Travis Kelce of the Chiefs or Aaron Rodgers of the Packers with his discount double check celebration. For as long as the NFL has been around, racism has existed. Even now, with the vast majority of players being African American, the media and other outlets find a way to target the African American players, specifically Cam Newton, for their touchdown celebrations. The main issue here is that Cam goes against the norm for an NFL quarterback. First, Cam is African American. Second, Cam is an outgoing...

His first solo comedy album titled ‘Eddie Murphy’ received anger from multiple communities such as gays, Asian-American groups and Women groups for its humour. His second stand-up comedy release Delirious was known for its profanity, with the word ‘fuck’ included in the routine a total of 230 times, and ‘shit’ counted 171 times. Despite this, delirious received positive reception, and due to its success, Murphy released another stand-up comedy film known as ‘Raw’. Murphy continued his profanity in Raw despite the response from his show Delirious, which caught the attention of Bill Cosby, who demanded Murphy to not use the word ‘fuck’ on stage ever again. This did not stop Murphy, who set the world...
