... Through the experiments we read about throughout the class we learned people handle stress differently and are influenced by the behaviors of others when it comes to a stressful situation. Introduction On the Holmes and Rahe self-assessment I scored a 120. This gives me a low chance of becoming ill in the future. On the Holmes and Rahe college student self-assessment, I don’t remember my exact score, but it was less than 150 which indicates mild stress. Nothing really stood out to me the most when I took these assessments. I completed these same assessments in the last course I completed at SNHU. My results did not surprise me. What I found most interesting is that the items that gave me the most points were things that I did not see as stressful events. To me Christmas and vacation are fun and relaxing events. I never really stress about either of those events. I do see where some people might find them stressful though. I seem to have a good handle on things, my life has been calm lately and I don’t have much stress to deal with. For the most part I don’t have a lot of stress in my life. There are days at work that are stressful, mainly due to the weather, but other than that things are going well. For example, if I have 5 yards to mow on Tuesday and we get a torrential rainstorm Monday night, then those yards will...

...Responsibility are the obligations you are accounted for. For me this means to take charge of my actions. To be willing to learn and to be disciplined in what is learned. To try and practice every day the learnings and to keep track of what needs to be done. Also to manage time so we can be able to do personal responsibilities but also be successful at school and be able to perform the best way in both scenarios. Personal Responsibility is the key of being triumphant in my opinion. To be able to take charge of the duties and responsibilities and be able to effectively manage your time is what makes it successful. Also being able to stay disciplined and to work hard is the key to effectively reach your goals. By being able to achieve this you will be able apply to any aspect of your life being personal or school related. As noted by Campbell Clark (2000), Work/family border theory: A new theory of work/family says “Central to this theory is the idea that ‘work’ and ‘family’ constitute different domains or sphere which influence each other.” (p. 750-751). After reflecting over this sentence the essence of mastering our lives in general is balance. To be able to keep this balance there are different strategies that can be incorporated, for starters we need to have goals: Short term and long term goals. Also have options so these goals can be reached. We need to manage our skills effectively, this means keep a to-do list, follow a schedule and be able to keep track...

John Wolford, who describes himself as “an engineer at heart”, had got a degree in mechanical engineering and devoted five years to design engineering. After getting married he decided to change his career and direct it to the engineering management field. After attending management courses he has shortly accepted an engineering management position with Precision Instruments where he worked for the next 10 years until English Firm acquired the company and he became a vice president. John Wolford finds his new role much more very stressful but tends to manage everything. This case outlines the hurried nature of his life. He has various responsibilities both to the company and his family. Despite of his trying he is overwhelmed at work (meeting with a boss, preparation for the trip to London, preparation for a 4 weeks management course, funeral, sales representative who needs his help, protesting employees, tons of e-mails), and at his personal life (family problems, lack of time to spend with the family, drinking and smoking causing health problems, overweight, self-dissatisfaction). In this case we can see that John Wolford is a Type A individual. He is a very ambitious, purposeful and goal-oriented person. He has achieved a lot by the age 41. At the same time he strives toward his goals...

...define them, are to have a set outcome. We invent them out of fantasy of how we want our lives to be, we cannot predict our future, so setting goals helps guide us. When we set goals it does not end when we achieve that goal. We accomplish the goal, we immediately look to the next goal, therefore I have set out my professional short and long -term goals. Some of them include professional, personal, and when I plan on completing these goals. I have also taken into consideration barriers that I may come across throughout my journey. Personal Goals Setting goals helps us to determine where we vision ourselves in the future. It encourages us to strive for better opportunities that allow for individual growth. My idea of nursing is to be a patient advocate and use effective communication. Ethnicity, religion, and an individual’s background plays an important role but that is why nursing is so diverse and special. It allows each of us to set out short and long- term goals to improve ourselves. As stated by Cynthia O’Neal, (November 2004). Journal of Nursing Education, 43 (11), 524. “In today’s health care environment, baccalaureate nurses must be prepared to use essential leadership skills to manage and coordinate teams of care.” Professional Short -Term Goal My personal short-term goal is to obtain a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing. I want to grow in my career as a nurse therefore I know I have to be motivated. In doing so...

...forty-three year old male who was diagnosed with diabetes when he was twenty-seven years old. I have obtained verbal release of patient information from Bill, and for the purposes of this paper, have changed his and his family’s name to observe privacy. In this paper I will be interviewing Bill and his family to research their personal impact regarding Bills diabetes diagnosis and the effect it has had in their life. Bill and Linda were married for five years before he found out he had diabetes. They had one child, a daughter named Courtney, who was two at the time. Bill had symptoms of increased thirst (polydipsia), increased urination (polyuria), fatigue, and noticed a few cuts he had on his hands were taking a long time to heal. He says he was afraid to go to the doctor because of a family history of diabetes, so he put it off for a few months. His wife, Linda recalls how hard it was to convince him to finally make a doctors appointment, she states “I knew he thought I was complaining and nagging all the time, but I wanted him to see how important it was for him to get the right treatment, especially if it was diabetes, I want him to be able to manage it so he can still be here for his family.” Bill finally made a doctors appointment and after running a few lab tests, along with his symptoms, and monitored blood sugars, he was diagnosed with diabetes. He now knows the importance of keeping track of his blood sugars and taking his insulin as scheduled. He witnessed the impact of diabetes...

...Personal Responsibility with Time Gen200 Personal Responsibility Success in college today is a balancing act of time; without balance between the academic career and a personal life, one will sometimes falter. Most people attending college today have a personal responsibility to a family as well as an academic career. For a person to be successful in college the right balance in both academic and a personal life must be found. Devotion to one without the other can often lead to neglect. Personal responsibility is in knowing the commitment required to reach the goal. It is about accountability for the impact a commitment to goals has on others. This commitment is time. A person often believes success in life when being able to manage a balance between time devoted to both family and career. Success in a person’s career is by support and encouragement from the family. This support and encouragement is available provide the time spent in the career does not overtake the time spent with the family. I see the relationship between personal responsibility and college success defined by a person wants to achieve in college and to what point a person allows it to encompass life. The people around a person, such as teachers, advisors, and even family members can encourage success, but it is the individual who has to put forth the efforts to make time available to achieve his or her goal. According to “Taking Charge of Your Life” (n.d.), " Accepting personal responsibility means...

...Personal Responsibility and College Success Angela A. Guzman University of Phoenix Personal Responsibility and College Success Being a mother of two while going to school can be overwhelming. Daily tasks such as taking care of my two girls, house chores, and balancing school work is hard to squeeze into a day unless you learn to manage your time wisely. In order to manage your time wisely you must take charge of your actions by practicing self-discipline. Making the right choices can lead to many rewards, but holding yourself accountable for failures will help you make better decisions in the future (Haskins, 2009). Time management, self-discipline, and accountability all comes down to personal responsibility. In my opinion, personal responsibility is setting an attainable goal, taking the actions needed to reach your goal, and holding yourself accountable for those actions. In short, personal responsibility is the key to college success. Self-discipline Planning to go to college is a big step that requires a lot of self-discipline. Self-discipline is about setting attainable goals and being able to follow through until reaching said goals. Setting attainable goals will help you succeed. Attempting goals that are unattainable not only sets you up for failure, but will discourage you from setting new goals in the future. Using a planning strategy of taking a long-term goal and breaking it up into short-term goals will keep you on track (Ellis, 2010). Most people...
