How to play baseball

I believe that baseball is my favorite sport to play. I got to like this sport because I have watched my brother since I was little. I thought it was cool to watch him. I knew one day when I was bigger I would play myself. I am a born and raised Chicago Cubs fan just like my dad and brother, but my mom likes the Sox’s.
The materials you need when you play baseball are helmet, baseball glove, bat, baseball pants, ball cap, jersey and spikes. Helmets are very important so the ball don’t hit your head. It ball can hurt you very bad, if you don’t have a helmet on.
Here are the basic steps you need to play the baseball game. First you need a field to play the game on. Second you will need to learn some starter rules. Rule number one is to never yell at the umpire. If you do they can throw you out of the game and you will be in trouble. This can cause you to sit the bench in the next innings or even get thrown out of the game. Second do not slide in to first base, because you can get hurt. The final rule is have fun and treat other players with respect.
When you first get a glove you have to make sure to break it in. If you don’t break the glove in properly you will not be able to catch the ball right, like a fly ball. It can cause the ball to roll out of your glove. Then the batter can get a base run or even score a point, instead of getting an out. Try your hardest and have fun, if you strike out its okay. On your next at bat you try again forget about the one before and you can maybe hit it this time. If you strike out it’s not the end of the world. What’s most important is that you try and give your best effort. Always remember it’s just a game.
I like this sport because I think it’s really fun to play. I think my favorite part is hitting the ball and running to the bases. I like to see how far the ball goes. Then I like

As a starter, you will go through the opposing team’s batting order multiple times, and they will have chances to make adjustments. To be a successful starter, you need to have stamina and a deep arsenal of pitches to mix and match. You also have to manage your energy closely and try to keep your velocity the same....

...There Is more to just MLB There is a real passion to wanting to play the game. I have had the passion to want to play the game for five years. Ever since I was twelve. And since I love the game and this topic really stood out to me. I am going to talk about baseball. From who Invented baseball. To When did MLB come about. And how many teams there are in baseball. And lastly a person in MLB like Bryce Harper. Abner Doubleday, born June 26, 1819. And died January 26, 1893. He was a United States Army officer and Union general for most of the American civil war. But also had a very important role in the battle of Gettysburg. But let's talk about the main reason that we are really here. And it is that Abner Doubleday was one of the first people that had invented baseball. He invented the game we know and love today back in Cooperstown, New york. During the summer of 1839. He made the idea of the bases you had to run and in the early years of baseball he made it to where you could throw the ball at the runner to get him out. It was pretty extreme before the rules that they have today. But enough about him....

At the opposite side of realism, we have Formalism. Formalist directors have no desire to show reality. They want to show their personal vision of the world and how they want their audience to view it. They are concerned with mythical and spiritual truths that can best be represented by distorting the image of reality. Classicism to bring in a third theory is all about ideal storytelling, it lies somewhere in between realism and formalism. (Understanding Movies 5) The goal of a classicist is to tell a story in the best way possible. They want you to get caught up in the characters and their problems, to feel what they feel, but not be distracted by the filmmaking techniques. The two films we screened in class Bull Durham directed by Ron Shelton, and Field of Dreams based on the novel Shoeless Joe directed by Phil Alden Robinson both demonstrate these film theories throughout their movies but in a very different matter. Bull Durham is a great realistic example of what the sport of baseball means to the men who play it. It's all about the dreams, the desire to compete, and the ultimate goal to one day be part of the “show.” The players in the minors endure long, hot days of riding sub par buses, while making a barely livable wage, just for one shot at making it to the big leagues. Baseball vs Footbal

...Zachary Jordan Dr. Hamilton English 10/15/14 Baseball VS. Football There are two main sports that are played and watched in America, they are baseball and football. These sports have many differences such as, the length of the game. They also have some similarities like they are both team sports. In some opinions people say that football players are tougher than baseball players, but others say that baseball is a harder sport. Baseball and football are similar in a few different ways. The first way that these sports are similar is, all the players on each of the fields have to be athletes. They are constantly running, jumping, catching, diving, throwing, and putting their bodies through tough physical activity. Each of the athletes on the field have to be in top shape to perform at the level that they are on, and if they are not preforming on the level they should be they will either get sent down or replaced. Secondly, to play either sport you have to be mentally involved the entire game. During any football game the coaches are throwing plays at you nonstop and you have to remember every play in the playbook. In a baseball game after each pitch a coach will give you a sign to tell you which play is on and what to do. Football players have to be mentally tough just as much as physically tough. Baseball players have to be even more mentally tough because baseball is a game of failure. In order to play each sport you have to have your mind in the right place. Lastly...

Fences

...Literary Analysis Essay on Fences The sport of baseball is an extremely integral aspect of the book Fences. Troy Maxson, our protagonist in this play, was a baseball player. It is Troy’s belief that the only reason he never made the major leagues was because he has the wrong color skin. Throughout the play, it is noticeable that Troy is still bitter over this and continuously makes references to current players and how he is much better than them. Troy’s life is a difficult one, and the connection between baseball and Troy’s trying life leads me to my point. The use of baseball in Fences is to symbolize the American dream and it being unattainable to Troy Maxson. First, how is it that our American pastime can be directly related to and represented as the American dream? There are several connections between the sport and the American dream that lead me to my thesis. The article Baseball as History and Myth in August Wilson’s Fences does a great job of connecting these two seemingly unrelated subjects. This article starts with a great quote by John Thorn saying, baseball has become “the great repository of national ideals, the symbol of all that [is] good in American life: fair play; the rule of law; equal opportunity; the brotherhood of man; and more.” Fair play shown through sportsmanship between the two teams, rule of law in “objective arbitration of disputes,” equal opportunity as each team is given a chance on both offensive and defensive sides each inning...

...The journey baseball players take on from the beginning of their careers to the end are full of success and strife. Baseball is a game of failure, but the failure is what fuels our desire for success. I’ve been playing baseball since I was eight years old and has pretty much been the main focus of my life. As I grew up, the game has taught me many life lessons that go beyond the baseball diamond. After high school, I received a scholarship to play for Kankakee Community College near my home of town of Chicago, Illinois. The picture was takin last year by one of my teammates shows me preparing to play in a Regional Championship with the winner advancing to the College World Series. The photo represents various different aspects of my playing career and how the journey has helped me become a better man. Throughout my baseball career I have faced a lot of adversity. I started my career at age eight playing for Jackie Robinson West Little League in inner city Chicago. My father also played in the league when it first was established. He also played college baseball, so he mentored and taught me the foundations of the game. After my little league career I began playing for a travel team. Traveling around the country, I was able to meet players from around the country and learn their stories. I enjoyed hearing them because it was cool to talk to someone with the same goals as you. As I entered my high school years, I entered a very intense part of my career which was finding a college...

America and Baseball

...America and Baseball: If You Want to Know America, Then you better Know Baseball Sean R. Golob Western Governors University If You Want to Know America, Then you better Know Baseball Baseball hits a home run when it comes to comparing it to the American identity. Both baseball and the American identity have three aspects that are exactly the same; both are very diverse, both are rather competitive, and both are driven by business and money. America is a diverse country, according to US Census Bureau (2013) quickfacts reference page, “Caucasians alone total 77.7%, Hispanic and Latino alone 17.1%, and African American alone 13.2%”. However, America has races from every inhabitable continent; we have a large number of Asians, mass amounts of Europeans, and growing amounts of Latinos and African ethnicities. These aspects all put together combine to make a huge part of the definition of American identity. Along with diversity, another aspect that is used in the definition of American identity is business and corporations. Corporate America is one of the largest and wealthiest forms of business in the world. Wall Street deals with billions of dollars daily, corporations throughout the country grow in size and significance. Lastly, competition is the last big part of the definition because of the international trade, emphasize on sports and athletics, and between other rivalries between other countries. The same is with baseball in America;...

The Many Cognitive Process of Baseball

...Processes of Baseball The Many Cognitive Processes of Baseball Baseball is a sport that is played by two teams of nine players with the motive of scoring the most runs by hitting a baseball that is thrown by a pitcher, using a baseball bat. Both teams take turns hitting against the pitcher of the fielding team, who tries to prevent runs by getting hitters out. Baseball is actually a simple and direct sport. Though it may be simple, it takes a lot from our body. It requires good motor-skills, hand-eye coordination and uses many different areas of the brain. The main skill that one needs in order to play baseball, for any sport in that matter, is good motor-skills. Motor cognition is defined as “a mental processing in which the motor system draws on stored information to plan and produce our own actions, as well as to anticipate, predict, and interpret the actions of others”. (Smith, 2007) Without motor cognition one cannot play baseball at all. The most important factors in the game such as being able to make contact with the ball, whether it involves batting or catching the ball, would not be performed. One must plan what to do and react on it, quickly, when in the moment of the game. All these tasks have one thing in common, movement and action. Movement is a “voluntary displacement” of a body part which is needed to perform an action. An action is a series of movements that that are needed to fulfill a task. An example of this in the game of baseball is when the player...
