The exhibition that I went to see was the Sleepwalkers exhibition in the Hugh Lane Gallery. The exhibition itself consisted of several artists’ work. The three pieces of work that I have observed were by Jim Ricks, Jesse Jones and Clodagh Emoe. The collaboration between all of the artists’ installations in the Hugh Lane proved to be a diverse and intriguing project. All of their work had its own individual flair to it, yet it all correlated together in a beneficial manner. The most recent of which being the work of Jim Ricks. ‘’Sleepwalkers’’ is a continuing project in which six artists have collectively used the gallery as their well of research. The initial phase of the Sleepwalkers project attempted to grasp and personify the work and …show more content…
Here we have two inflatable objects that are set along the oval ledge that is protruding from the wall were the installation has been set up. The objects themselves are of no significance to the larger scheme of things, and without each other their presence in the installation would be futile. Although each of the objects is completely different to each other, they amplify and strengthen each other’s presence in the installation. The fact that the earth is slightly deflated compared to the alien would suggest that we as a race of people are draining the earth of its vitality and causing it to lustre to diminish. It seems as if the artist is trying to provoke the viewers into questioning the validity of the objects in the installation as art and it’s also evident that Ricks is basing his pieces on the reactions of the viewers. Ricks’ manages to push the boundaries on what is considered art in a modern society where art is considered to be important based on its retail value. In a gallery where there is a dominance of significant artworks that have tremendous retail value, Ricks’ manages to provide a solid and controversial exhibition for which the general public can determine the validity of these pieces as art in a contemporary …show more content…
Over one hundred people gathered together to hear Critchley’s utterance of the Movement of the Free Spirit. Mystical Anarchism has since incorporated a film that consists of screenings and events preformed throughout 2012 and now as Clodagh Emoe’s contribution to the Sleepwalkers exhibition. The Hugh Lane offers a space for mediation and reflection through thought and Emoe’s installation is represented as a way of continuing her contemplation of art as a form of contemplation. Mystical Anarchism seeks to strengthen and enhance the process of thought through the illumination of imagination by using a mat that was utilised at the original gathering in Glendaloch in a space that is used for serene and tranquil reflection that is accompanied by the film of Simon Critchley’s lecture . The concept of reflection through thought is one that everyone can associate and relate to, each person is invited to join in harmonious observation as the film is played in the background. From seeing and partaking in the Exhibition that was shown in The Hugh Lane Gallery, the overall aura and atmosphere of the piece was one of serenity and tranquillity, which in my opinion was what Mystical Anarchism was created to

...THE B L A C K SWAN The HIGHLY I mpact IM of the PROBABLE Nassim Nicholas Taleb U.S.A. $26.95 Canada $34.95 is a highly improbable event with three principal characteristics: It is unpre dictable; it carries a massive impact; and, after the fact, we concoct an explanation that makes it appear less random, and more predictable, than it was. The astonishing success of Google was a black swan; so was 9 / 1 1 . For Nassim Nicholas Taleb, black swans underlie almost everything about our world, from the rise of religions to events in our own personal lives. A BLACK SWAN Why do we not acknowledge the phenomenon of black swans until after they occur? Part of the answer, according to Taleb, is that humans are hardwired to learn specifics when they should be focused on generalities. We concentrate on things we already know and time and time again fail to take into consideration what we don't know. We are, therefore, unable to truly estimate oppor tunities, too vulnerable to the impulse to simplify, narrate, and categorize, and not open enough to rewarding those who can imagine the "impossible." For years, Taleb has studied how we fool our selves into thinking we know more than we actually do. We restrict our thinking to the irrelevant and inconsequential, while large events continue to surprise us and shape our world. Now, in this reve latory book, Taleb explains everything we know about what we don't know. He offers...
