...Believing in God Jehovah J. Michele Jones COM 220 Research Writing July 8, 2012 Karen Halusek Believing in God Jehovah When a person starts talking about religion, most people begin to get upset or walk away from you. Many people do not want to understand or know how someone can start believing in a God that you cannot see, feel, or touch. Everyone is entitled to believe in whoever he or she wants to believe in, just because that person cannot see, does not give the other person the right to say that no one else should. There are so many who find it joyous to get to know God. The ethics in Christianity are all in the Word of God. For many of us, we do not need to put someone else down because of the way they choose to believe. God freely gives us a choice as to whether or not we believe in Him or anything else. The people in the church are not called to deliver hate filled messages to anyone, but to encourage and help them understand that there is better way to truly living their lives. Many Christians want to preach the Gospel in a way that makes God seems as if He hates us, when in fact, it is the total opposite. There are many people who walk on this earth, and they are hurting because of experiences within the church, something happened to him or her as a child, been in bad relationships, etc. Most people highly doubt that God cannot help him or her. The true Christians, those of them that truly believe in a sovereign God, will say that it is not easy living according...

...HOW CAN I BE MORAL IF I DON'T BELIEVE IN GOD? Let's just get this out in the open now: I do not have any faith or belief in any personal deity--one that dispenses grace, goodness, and/or miracles according to its 'will'. I do not acknowledge any ‘supernatural’ agent or agency that intentionally intervenes in human affairs (like say, one that chooses sides in a war), or selectively answers peoples' prayers. I do not and can not abide any willful deity that plays with tornados and trailer parks. I do not support or espouse any formal, organized religious notion or expression of any such 'god'. I acknowledge only a creative principle at work in the Universe. I also acknowledge a wish fulfilling tendency in the human mind, a desire to be part of some greater whole or purpose, which is the outgrowth, or by-product, of our unique self-awareness and knowledge of our eventual death and decay. This is all that the evidence of my perception and experience allows. What is not forbidden is compulsory. There are many labels that others use to describe a person such as me. Unlike religious labels, labels for non-religious persons are about what he/she does not believe in, or does not possess (such as in the word agnostic, meaning 'no knowledge’). Implicitly, the non-religious (non-theist) person is viewed as being in deficit.* Although I have personally used such terms to simplify social discourse, no such label adequately, or truthfully, describes what I do ‘believe in’. But...

...something to believe in. Every view influences us to believe certain concepts and hold them to be true. I have a Christian Worldview and believe that God is my savior. I could have easily chosen to follow worldly concepts but instead I chose to believe in something the world could not offer me, God. To have a Christian Worldview one must believe and assume there is a God, a supernatural being that exists with power beyond what humans can comprehend. I believe there is a God, a heaven, and a hell. Some believe there is no God and that the supernatural world does not exist while others believe in the self. Whatever Worldview an individual may believe for their reasons, I have reasons of my own as to why I believe there is a God. God is three is one, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. He is the truth, he lives in everything. He is the reason for all existence. The Bible was written so that we would not only have a guideline of how to live Godly lives but for us have documented evidence that Jesus walked this earth and is real, He is something to believe in. God is a loving God. God is all characteristics in one. He loves, forgives, is compassionate, merciful, graceful, pure and eternal. God is also jealous, angry, and relentless. His character is like no other, He is flawless and without sin. No human being can touch Him and no human being can match His greatness. We are His creation and without God there would not be you or me. A human being is life formed by God in His image...

...12/6/13 Prof. Sharpe God has been a very important part of my live since I was a very little girl. When I was only a couple of months old I was baptized. That was my first spiritual encounter with God. I then proceeded to commit my first communion in third grade. I then received my confirmation when I was in eighth grade. Like I said before God has been a very important part in my life for a very long time. Who is God? What are his characteristics? I believe that God is the person who created me and he is the person I believe in. I also think that God is the creator of the world and that has control over everything that happens in my life. I think that some of God’s characteristics are that he has the ability to make things happen. I think that he makes certain things happen for a reason. I also believe that one of God’s characteristics is to be there for you in your time of need. I believe this because god knows what you can and cannot do. God is not going to give you something that he thinks that you are going to fail at, I believe that he is going to challenge us a human beings but I believe that he is going to challenge us with things that he knows that we can do. A human being is a person that God puts on the earth to represent him in some way. I believe that God makes all human beings different because he wants us to be our own person but still reflect him in someway. I believe that when a person dies another person is born. I believe this because God is going to call...

...the Pieces The three components that make up my worldview are God, Knowledge and Ethics, because they shaped my thoughts, experiences, and education and life decisions. Believing in God can gives me the knowledge and the ethics that are needed to succeed in life. Believing in God gives me the inner strength to overcome the adversities that this modern world throws at me on a daily basis. Knowledge is never ending, and can help me obtain the information that is necessary to get through difficult times throughout my life. Knowledge is the key to understanding Gods word. Having ethics will help me when I am communicating with others whether it is in school, business or my personal life. In a world full of different cultures and races, ethics are an important part of communicating and understanding others. My comparison between Naturalism and Christianity is that Naturalist believes that there is no supernatural, only material and matter. They also believe they control their own destiny and that God has nothing to do with it. The Christian view is that everything we do is influenced by God and that everything we do is influenced by God. Christians also believe there is more to life than matter and materialism. My comparison between Secular Humanist and Christianity is that Secular Humanist believes that God doesn’t exist. My Christian worldview believes that God is the highest entity. Secular Humanist believes that people are basically good, and that they should feel good about...

...existence of God, there are numerous teachings and arguments, some more rational than others, the classical arguments being the most well known to all. The claim in all these arguments uses a non-religious approach to logically reason the existence of God, rather than argue on the premise of faith to obtain a rational belief; a belief reasoning as justification. The classical arguments are divided into what is considered empirical and rational arguments, with every individual finding their own reasoning to relate to them. In this essay, I will explore the extent of how the classical arguments can proves God existence, and why some people counter-argue they cannot. The first of the classical arguments being Anselm’s Ontological argument, an argument attempting to prove God’s existence through abstract reasoning alone. The argument is entirely a priori as it does not include real evidence or anything factual, seeking to demonstrate that God exists based on the concept of God alone. The outline of the argument is that because we have an idea of God, an idea of a being which no greater can be thought, therefore God must exist. The argument relates to three concepts: the concept of God, perfection and of existence. The three concepts associate with one another, arguing that perfection is part of the concept of God, and that perfection entails existence, therefore the concept of God entails God’s existence. Anselm’s argument is set on the basis of a conception of God as “that than...

...At the age of seventy, Socrates found himself at the law court defending himself on the charges brought against him by Meletus. Meletus is accusing Socrates of not believing in the gods in whom the Athenians believed but in some other spirits (24b). In the long run, justice was not served on the part of Socrates even though he did whatever he could to defend himself. According to the verdict, Socrates was guilty of the charge including some other charges and was sentenced to death. I do not agree with this verdict and believe that Socrates was innocent of this charge. The reasons for my belief is that Meletus contradicted himself during the cross-examination at the law court and Socrates had a good explanation to refute the charge, making it clear that he did believed in the Athenian gods. First and foremost, Meletus accused Socrates of believing in some other supernatural spirits but not the Athenian gods. When Socrates questioned him to clarify whether he did or did not believe in gods at all during the cross-examination, Meletus answered saying “this is what I mean, that you do not believe in gods at all” (26c). How can Meletus make a point and completely refute it within a fraction of seconds, and how is it possible for a man to be an atheist and believe in other forms of spirits at the same time? Socrates himself even realized that Meletus was contradicting himself and he seems to win victory over him. The inconsistency of Meletus’ charges should have signaled the 501 jurors...

...Life I feel like the two most important days of your life is the day you were born and the day you find out why you were born. There are all kinds of theories of how life is supposed to be. People believe all sorts of things of how life will be like. I feel like everyone in the world was put on this plant for a reason. We may not always know why we were put here but I think that is the goal in life to figure out why and be the best person you can be and to fulfill that goal. I think that the substance of like to believe and have faith in God. There is a fine line for believing in God. I think we all have to pray to find our purpose that God sees fit for us to fill. In life God gives everyone challenges. Those challenging make you who you are. At the time you might not understand why God is doing that to you but in the long run I believe that you find out the purpose. I feel like people get discouged when something bad happens in their life, including me but you just have to keep going and know that there is a reason behind all of this. I think God purpose for me is to go to college and become a social worker. I believe He has called me to do this because I love little kids to death. Ever since I was like little kids have been my main hobby. It makes me so happy to just take care of them. When we die I believe with all of my heart that we will enter the gates of heaven. Yes I was brought up to leave this by my parents, but that is not the only reason that I believe that...

...Sahiba Kaur Persuasive Speech 18 November 2014 Professor Liedke Topic: God Exists God, are you there? Today I will dispel the myth that God exists. God is all knowing and powerful. He created the world and us humans are created in his image. God is love, gracious, good and merciful. People who believe in God believe they are sinners when they were born, and trust they will go to hell if they do not believe in Him. Christians will believe they will go to heaven if they believe in the Christian God, and they believe they will go to hell if they do not. Muslims believe they will go to heaven and have 72 virgins waiting for them if they kill in the name of their God, and believe they will go to hell if they do not. Thankfully, this belief is false. If God is love, then why will he send someone to Hell? People in this world need to believe in something. They want to believe someone created the whole universe, thus the manmade creation of God. In an article published by Osho International foundation, Bhagwan Rajneesh states, “The Christians say God created the world, in fact, the hypothesis of God is needed for the creation. The world is there, someone must have created it, and whoever created it, that creator is God. But do you see the implication, if the world is created then there can be no evolution, evolution means creation continues. Think of the Christian story, God created the world in six days, and on the seventh day, he rested. Since then he’s been resting. The...

...Nature of God Religion 212 Spring semester 2016 Professor Naomi Sanderovsky, Ph.D. Christy Carver Sanchez This semester in Religion I learned a lot about different religions. I learned that some of them, while they are very similar, have things that make them very different. Another thing I have learned is that all of them have a being or a deity that they look to as being their "God". In reading about some of these it really got me thinking a lot. Are our religions really all that different? So, in this paper, I will tell you about the different religions I learned about and what God or deity they believe in. in week two we talked about Hinduism and Jainism. These two religions were very interesting in the way they believe in God. You see they have two different ways of thinking but, even though they do it is still amazing to see how we can take some of their beliefs and incorporate them into our lives. The Hindus believe in Brahman as the supreme ruler or the one God. But, Brahman has three sides to him. He has the creator, the destroyer, and the preserver. They all have a name and are called by their names. You see the world has to have someone to create things and Brahman is the creators name. Then you have Vishnu the preserver and Shiva the destroyer. They believe that Brahman lives in everyone. In our lives, we believe that our God lives in us and helps to guide us . In Jainism, they do not believe in a god but they believe in evil. They believe that everyone...

...Christians that the bible is a book made up of undisputable truths. God is truth and the truth comes from God. From the very beginning of his book, Alister McGrath introduces the bible and establishes its authority. From the reading, we can conclude that it is a universal truth that God is the author of sacred scripture” (McGrath, xxiii). McGrath writes that the Bible is inspired by God and He himself placed scripture as we know it in the minds of those who wrote it. 2 Timothy 3:16 says that all scripture is given by inspiration of God. Because it was God who, by proxy, wrote scripture, we can believe in the purity and accuracy of His words. Therefore, if one questions the bible we are questioning God....

...Lamca When it come’s to a worldview, I could never figure mine out. I have never been to church and I have never prayed for anything, but I always had a belief that there was a God. After studying different views, I found myself being a theistic worldview because I believe in a God but haven’t studied much a bout that God. Who is God and what are His characteristics? “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). Therefore, God created earth and everything on earth including humans. “Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!” (Romans 11:33) There are many characteristics or attributes of God. God is all-powerful; His power is unlimited. God imposes the only limitation on His power. (Genesis 18:25) God is all knowing, He possesses all knowledge. Since God is everywhere at one time, He knows everything. What is the nature of the universe? I have two different opinions about this question. First, I believe that God created the universe and the nature of the universe is to show us how great and powerful God is. My second opinion or thought is if God did create the universe to show us how powerful He is does he protect other forms of life in the universe? What is a human being and what happens when one dies? A human being is a creation of God that consists of a spirit and soul. From what I have learned in this class, God has an image of a human, creates that human...

...Rarely have I felt the mixed emotions of shock, anger, confusion and sadness more intensely than I did while reading The Age of Reason by Thomas Paine. Published as a pamphlet in 1794, Paine authored this short piece to share his thoughts and opinions about religion and summarize his profession of faith. While I have come to appreciate the honesty and openness with which he wrote, I do not agree with the largest portion of Paine's actual beliefs. Thomas Paine started off well enough with the ever true statement: "I believe in one God, and no more" (Timmerman, Hettinga 95). He affirms, as do I, that God is the master creator behind nature (101) and that all men are equal (95). From here, however, Paine's worldview and my worldview take two totally different paths. Paine dedicates a large amount of his writing to discuss his views on divine revelation. He defines revelation in a religious context as "something communicated immediately from God to man" (96). He then presents the application of his definition to reality, arguing that a revelation from God is only a true revelation to whomever first directly receives it: "It is a contradiction in terms and ideas, to call anything a revelation that comes to us at second-hand, either verbally or in writing. Revelation is necessarily limited to the first communication"...
