», Sadhou Sundar Singh

...article he speaks about if God is real. Even though we cannot see God in person does that mean he is not real? There are some that does not have a belief in God even those there is no proof stating there is not a God. This does not mean that one should not listen to others then they try to tell you that there is not a God. But the best thing to do is listen to them and see what proof that they can show to state as to why they think that way. Then there are some that believes that there is a God but does not believe in all that is said that he had done. McCloskey stated in page 62 that, “Philosopher colleagues attribute to much importance to the role of the proofs of the existence of God as a basis for religious belief, that most theists does not come to believe in God as a result of reflecting on the proofs, but come to religion as a result of other reasons and factors.” (McCloskey, 1968) McCloskey used three arguments to support his claims; these three arguments are cosmological argument, teleological argument, and Argument from design. McCloskey had went on speaking about the cosmological argument and about the universe. McCloskey was more into the idea of a big bang. This can be broken down into three ideas from Evans and Manis on their non-temporal form of cosmological argument. The first one is the contingent beings meaning that there is a lot of evidence proving that a powerful being like God exists but there is no real reason as to why God or the universe does exists...

God and Problem of Evil

...God and the Problem of Evil Liberty University Bob Cox The debate of whether God exists has been going on for centuries. Atheists and theists have opposing views on how the universe as we know it came in to being. According to atheism, evolution can explain all we see in the universe. The process of evolution which began with the big bang started the universe and all that is within it. Theists see the world full of design and order and believe it came about through an intelligent creator. Atheists do not believe in God because they have not seen clear proof that he exists (McCloskey, 1968). In his article “On Being an Atheist”, H. J. Mccloskey explains why he believes that God does not exist. The theist believes that an intelligent creator is the best explanation for all that we experience in the universe. Personal experience leads many to begin to think about God. Some wonder about the purpose of their life; while others might be struggling reasons for pain and suffering. It helps to believe that our pain and suffering are for some ultimate purpose and that eventually some good can come from it. Faith in God can be arrived at intelligently through reason. We may not be able to prove that God exists but there is convincing evidence to believe he does. We shouldn’t be afraid to ask questions about what we believe and why we believe it. Our answers will help to strengthen our own faith and give others something to think about. If something is worth believing, it is worth...

Youth

...Philosophy for Youth Ministry I believe that youth ministry is vital to the growth and effectiveness of the church—local and universal. In order for the church to grow, the adult generations of the church needs to insure the faith by training children and young adults “in the nurture and admonition of the Lord”(Ephesians 6:4). When the youth of the church are not taught the importance of a vibrant and active relationship with God, then the church will see its ranks become thin and aged. With age comes wisdom and experience, but with youth comes energy and determination. In order for the church to be effective it must see youth ministry as a vital part of the body. Since the church needs youth ministry, it is important that the youth ministry itself has a vision and structure to provide organization to reach goals and growth. I believe that youth ministry needs to focus on three key goals or values in order to be effective in the local church. These values are to connect, grow, and serve. These three values will provide structure and vision to ensure a healthy youth ministry. The first area that one should start with when building a youth ministry that will be profitable to the church and its families is connection. We need to make sure that our teens and parents of teens are connecting with God and others. Connecting with God is the base foundation that any believer should be building upon from the moment they begin a relationship with God. Romans 10:14a says “How then shall...

Pascal's Wager Rhetorical Analysis

...religion. In Pascal’s Wager, a piece that he wrote to the Libertines, he explains not why God is real, but why we should believe in God. The Libertines disagreed by saying, “Since it is impossible to know if there is a God, then there is no reason for me to choose one way or the other.” (101) Pascal refuted this argument by stating that we, as humans, must make a choice to either believe or not to believe in God. Being agnostic is not plausible, Pascal states, since the actions of being agnostic are the same as being atheist. Pascal then states how believing in God is the only option that makes sense because if God does not exist, then there is no loss. However, if God does exist, then we either gain eternal happiness for believing, or an infinite amount of time living an infinitely horrible...

Theology God in the Face of Science and Suffering

...Possibility of a Loving God Before enrolling in a theology course, I was biased about the views of the possibility of a Christian God. I’ve seen far too many people say that God is their savior and everything they do is because of him, or for him. It was always to some far-fetched point, where I was unable to comprehend where their views came from. I never had the evidence or background to fall back on for a reason to have a foundation for the belief in God. Taking into consideration the numerous contextual readings from the arguments for the pros and cons for the existence of God, I still come to a conclusion that God does not exist in the human experience. Denis Edwards is the most notable author that I was able to relate to. By beginning with the nature of experience, we first encounter an individual and then we have an interpretation and understanding of that individual. Therefore, experience involves both encounters and interpretation of that encounter. We can have similar encounters, but different interpretations. This is where I was able to understand that the interpretive stage of experience can be biased, whether it may be because of emotional blockages, or unconscious motives. Edwards’s claims made me understand why I was unable to grasp the possibility of a God. Throughout my childhood, I was brought up in a Buddhist religion, never having even heard one thing about the Christian God. On the other hand, I have friends that have been rooted in God from childbirth. Therefore...

We may not always know why we were put here but I think that is the goal in life to figure out why and be the best person you can be and to fulfill that goal. I think that the substance of like to believe and have faith in God. There is a fine line for believing in God. I think we all have to pray to find our purpose that God sees fit for us to fill. At the time you might not understand why God is doing that to you but in the long run I believe that you find out the purpose. Morality and God

...The Existence of God PHI 208 Ethics and Moral Reasoning The existence of God Since the beginning of time, people have often questioned the meaning of life, how the universe was created and the purpose for the wildlife and creatures that roam the earth. These things often lead us to question the existence of God. In order to even begin to answer these complex questions, we must uncover the source of all of these occurrences. In this paper, I will discuss the issue of Gods existence; present one basic dispute and clarify the arguments on multiple sides of this issue. I will structure an argument that supports the side of the issue I find to be better defended while explaining why I find my side of this debate stronger. In conclusion, I will state my own view and defend it with an argument. Does god exist, or did the “Big Bang theory” or other natural theories play a role? Even though it is absolutely impossible to prove Gods existence, I personally believe that the presence of God is so evident; we do not need solid proof to verify that he is our creator. When it comes to the issue of Gods existence, everyone has his or her own view of whom or what “God” really is. Some people believe that there is one God while others believe in multiple gods or even goddesses. Most believers do not feel that it is necessary to prove that God exists however; there are others that believe that it is essential to provide proof since there...

...Christian faith, especially those with very strong beliefs. We as Christians believe that God is almighty and there is really no need to believe in any other being or even question that he exists. In this article from McCloskey, he talks about God’s existence and if there truly is a God, then why is there evil in world? This essay will have my findings on the questions we were asked as class about McCloskey’s thoughts and the thoughts from the book, Philosophy of Religion. When believing in anything, people like to have proof as to why something exists. Christians might show proof in God’s existence or Atheists might show proof in that there is no God. We all have reasons as to why we believe in certain things and sometimes its can be hard to prove. McCloskey talks about proofs in his article, saying that there are proofs to the non-existence of God. In a presentation titled “Approaching the Question of God’s Existence”, the author is quite the opposite of McCloskey. He doesn’t believe that we should try proving anything; it is a word to steer away from. We shouldn’t try to find proof that God exists, but find a best explanation to why he exists. McCloskey says that proofs cannot actually make a case that there is a God. In the presentation, though, it is explained that we can make our best case for why he exists. The author says, “There are certain things we see within the universe, the best explanation is God.” (Approaching the Questions of God’s Existence) So in conclusion to...

...survivors/victims of the Holocaust. I know if it was me that was caught up in a disaster the scope of the Holocaust that I would have many different feelings and reactions. I know a few people who have suffered a personal tragedy, me included. In some ways there are similarities to Night whereas some of it is not. Some people say that the Holocaust should be seen as different in kind from the tragedies common to human life. A good question to ask oneself is, how great of a tragedy would it take to lead you to question the goodness of God? As the story of Night develops Eliezer’s understanding of God changes. Eliezer’s relationship with his father changes as the story progresses. Some might say this change is related to his understanding of God. His reaction to his father’s death is different than how most people would react. The scene at the mirror at the end of the story suggests that something happened to Eliezer during the story. Wiesel makes the remark “man questions God” which has a suggestion on Judaism’s attitude toward God. I believe that it is ironic in light of the story. The story of Night suggests that there is a problem with being a survivor. Some people believe that Wiesel was justified in his change of attitude toward God whereas others do not. There are two questions that come up when thinking about the story. The first is why do bad things happen to good people? The second is what resources does religion provide for dealing with such situations? If I was caught up in a disaster...

Analysis Of Scripture And Truth

...Christians that the bible is a book made up of undisputable truths. God is truth and the truth comes from God. From the very beginning of his book, Alister McGrath introduces the bible and establishes its authority. From the reading, we can conclude that it is a universal truth that God is the author of sacred scripture” (McGrath, xxiii). McGrath writes that the Bible is inspired by God and He himself placed scripture as we know it in the minds of those who wrote it. 2 Timothy 3:16 says that all scripture is given by inspiration of God. Because it was God who, by proxy, wrote scripture, we can believe in the purity and accuracy of His words. Therefore, if one questions the bible we are questioning God....

God vs No God

...definition of “God” is the supernatural that is conceived as the perfect, omnipotent and omniscient originator and ruler of the universe. God is the object of worship in monotheistic religions. After having studied this subject frequently back in the past and this chapter, there are many arguments for the existence of God such as the cosmological, the teleological, the ontological, and the moral arguments, etc. Although they are very powerful arguments, each one of them also has their own weakness. There are not only arguments towards the existence of God; however, there are also arguments against God as well. These are called the Empirical, Deductive, Inductive, and Subjective arguments. But, again, these arguments each also have their own strengths and weaknesses just like the arguments for the existence of God. One popular form of the Cosmological argument states that things exist and it is possible for those things to not exist; there is an uncaused caused for everything that has been brought into existence. So, according to this argument, the cause and what created the universe must have been God’s doing. However, this argument is thought by some to be completely illogical, as God would have to be caused as well. So, if God had a cause, what created God? Then there must be a higher power even above God. But yet, God is supposed to be all-powerful. Maybe it created itself? How is that possible? Perhaps the universe was always there, perhaps God was always there. I am a firm believer...

Worldview

...answers how we came into existence. Scientists reject God and have different views on how life begins. But the worldview from Christians says that we became into existence through God. Genesis 1:1 points out that God created the heavens and the earth. Christians argue that God created us and He comes first in our lives. Without God, we would not be here. Ephesians 2:10 speaks on how we are God’s masterpieces. If we are Christians living by the Bible, then we are God’s children. The Question of Identify answers the importance of mankind over animals and the meaning of being a human. Christians believe that as a human we should treat everyone fairly. Karma is important to remember in life. John 15:12 points out that we should love one another as God have loved us. “If you do good deeds then you will be rewarded, but if you do bad deeds the end result will be negative in your life.” (Page 58) Galatians 6:7 gives references to the saying “you reap what you sow” and Christians live by this belief. The Question of Meaning or Purpose answers our reason for existing and why. Christians believe that our purpose of existing is to know God personally. The Bible is the way to understand what our purpose is and what God has plan for our lives. In order to have salvation we must establish a relationship with God. John 5:24 tells us out that whoever hears and believes in God will have eternal life. This is our belief for why we exist. Romans 8:1 tell...
