...Health Science major, I did not realize how big of a role reading, writing and communicating plays in the health sciences field until I start taking my degree specific classes. All of the writing thus far has helped me realize how important being a good writer is, and helped me to see some of my strengths and weaknesses. I have never truly liked writing especially in the academic setting, but I know how important it is. Writing is a good way of expressing yourself and reflecting and analyzing your thoughts. I have never been confident in my writing skills, but I have seen major improvement over the year and hope to continue to grow as a reader and a writer. Improvements in My Writing I have saw...

...like me, use it to vent. I always had writing assignments in school but none of them really had an impact on my life until the summer before junior year in high school. That summer was a terrible summer for me. Nothing went the way I had hoped and I was unhappy. My boyfriend and I broke up the night before my last exam. I would talk to my friends about it but I felt like it became too much for them. I knew they wanted to make me happy so they would listen but I didn’t feel right about putting them through it so I started writing. Whenever I needed a break from everyone around me, I would grab a piece of paper and a pen and just start pouring my thoughts onto paper. It was usually about how I was going through a tough time, which now seems increasingly petty, but at that time paper was my confidant. I wrote everything, even if it was a paragraph, or even barely a line. I used to transfer all the bad thoughts in my mind onto paper and just leave it there. I substituted my friends for paper. Paper wouldn’t talk back or tell me that it wasn’t god for me. It would just listen, absorb, and always be there. And that’s when I fell in love with writing. This is when writing became a habit. When I got over irrelevant boyfriend issues, I still had that craving to write something, anything, so I started writing about my day. If I had had a bad day, I would sit with my book and pen and just write till I overcame the bad thoughts. Those rare but sweet moments when I would go into a stream...

...differently from my peers because of the fact that I wanted to be a teacher. When I had bad teachers all I could do was tell myself the things I did not want to do in my own classroom, and there were no good teachers to compare them to. Until I came to college, I did not have any teachers that influenced me in a positive way. By not having those positive factors in my life, my idea of literacy was very negative. When I was younger I would always get in trouble from my teachers because I was very social. My teachers would send notes home to my parents asking them to control my talkative habits because I was distracting to my peers during class. They would stick me away from my friends, which would not work because...

...I really don’t want to write and upload a paper. I just want to read other papers to help me get ideas on these hard assignments. I really enjoy school and want to learn but sometimes it is just hard to do so. I need to read other papers to be able to help me get ideas. HELP! I wish it was not so hard to get a higher education these days. Submitting an article with 250 words just so I can read other papers to get ideas is horrible. This is probably how schools make sure people are not cheating. This site links our emails to the master data base at the schools and we will get flagged for just searching others ideas. I hate the government has so much control over everything. What happened to the free world? Wow. Two-hundred and fifty words is a lot of words. I wonder how many words are in a ten page paper. Probably a couple thousand or more; Holy shit. The succeeding paragraphs will explain how innovations in employee benefits can improve the overall competitive compensation strategy of the organization. ...Some Insight on Plagiarism in Higher Education Amy Joyner Liberty University Evering, L., & Moorman, G. (2012). Rethinking plagiarism in the digital age. Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy, 56(1), 35-44. The article written by Evering & Moorman, 2012, is an article about the complexity and issues that evolve around plagiarism. Plagiarism as we see it today is clearly an issue of concern as far as why people do it and what can be done to avoid it. Plagiarism is not just an issue but clearly a serious and ongoing problem in the world today that needs to be put under control. According to Evering & Moorman, 2012, “Most public and private schools, colleges, and universities have academic integrity or honor codes and consequences for plagiarism, but few professors and teachers explicitly address what plagiarism means or provide examples of individual contexts and degrees of unauthorized copying”. Plagiarism is considered a serious issue that needs to be re-exam as far as Evering & Moorman are concern because it is said that not many students understand what plagiarism is let along trying to prevent it. Although several schools have honor codes about plagiarism and the penalties you can get, it’s still not a discussion with students about what it is and how to avoid it. The article states that “students are seldom engaged in instruction or discussion about what plagiarism is, why it is a problem, and how it can be avoided” (Evering & Moorman, 2012)...

...When I was in high school, I took creative writing course. Because at that time, I just arrived USA, so I wanted to improve my English writing ability. However, when I began to know this course more, I was deeply attracted by this course. I remember there was a time, the teacher asked us to get outside and sit in front of the lawn, and wrote down what we felt. It is really a memorable experience to me. In China, I usually sat in the classroom and racked my brain to write, and I always failed to convey my thoughts and feeling accurately. I sat in such a peaceful place, listened to the birds, to the insects, to the wind. My pen seemed beginning to control me. I just wrote down what I thought, what I felt. I felt free and relax, like flying in...

...enough of it. Personally, I swing both ways about writing. I enjoy being able to express my feelings down and share them with others, not all the time because there are some things I like to keep to myself. I love the idea of letting my ideas and thoughts stream out and come to the surface. Reading other people’s stories or thoughts inspires me to be free and write down how I feel. Sometimes it’s hard to express the feelings I get and how to incorporate them into words for others to comprehend, but I guess that’s the reason. To have others approach your feelings and figure out the emotions they capture through your piece of literature. Now, the part I dislike about writing is having to follow structure and regulations. I do understand why there are building blocks to literacy writing, I just don’t feel you get to allow yourself to come out of your shell as much. For example, me, I am writing this essay allowing myself to express what I feel and about my writing history, but it’s going by some guidelines of the class. The font, margins, and the minimum length of the essay are just the beginning of them. In high school I remember we had to write about how we felt about a book that was assigned in class, but we had to have a thesis statement, a full-circle ending, and it had to be 3 pages long. I did enjoy reading the book, the analysis behind the words and writing what we got out of the book. It was the structural part of the assignment I didn’t enjoy. I do love to write, seeing...

... I love writing, but at the same time I hate reading. I can write all day long about anything. The one thing I really hate about reading is reading out loud. I start to read fast or I mess up the words when I’m reading. In the 10th grade my teacher made me get up and read a short story about this old man who got shot by his grandson. I think this was the start of school and this couldn’t come at a different time. So I got up and started to look at everyone. Everybody was looking at me while I was standing and waiting for everybody to stop talking and look at me. When I got all the way to the front of the room I just started to read I didn’t care if everybody was looking at me or if they were still talking. I got to page.11 and that’s when everybody started to laugh. That’s when I called my teacher an asshole and walked out of class. I love writing because I got to write a paper for my school. It was about how my class was going to take over the world and showing people that we can make it in this big world. I still messed up on some of my words and spelling but I got help by some of my teachers and classmates. But at the end I still had a bad ass paper. People always wanted me to write their papers. They saw that I was always getting A’s on my papers. People didn’t understand how I wasn’t good at reading but I can write a good paper. I know I’m not the best at reading or writing but to me I’m good at it. I want someone to push me to read. If I have that I know I can...

...Assignment Sheet Self-Assessment For my universe I decided to go with the X-Men (superheroes) universe because I really love superheroes and what they can do. Going back to the syllabus I had Logan, a.k.a. Wolverine, as the teacher of a history class about mutant history. And just for a quick overview of Logan, his personality is somewhat of a “dick” personality. So whenever there is a rude or offensive comment in the assignment sheet, which is intended. For my assignment sheet I decided to go with the class writing a paper. This is because pretty much every class that someone has taken, they have had to write some form of paper, whether it was for extra credit or for an assignment, I thought that this would be a good time for the students...

...Being brought up speaking English, I always thought I spoke and understood English just fine. Who would of thought that it was such a complex subject. From my last English class, passing without any issues, to this English class, which has been a huge struggle. I have found that I have been challenged during this semester, its been a love/hate relationship between me and English 120. This class has given me greater knowledge when it comes to understanding "why" the author is writing their article, its not just about summarizing what you read, its about fully grasping the complexity of the article. I know that because I have been challenged, and learned to overcome the challenge of writing rhetorical strategies, it is safe to say, that I am read to enter English 124. This paper will illustrate my understanding of English 120 and why I, Michelle Page, feel I am ready to move on to English 124. Let me start with the first paper we wrote in this class, it was an Argument Analysis Essay and I chose to write it on Carol...

...The Boston Massacre, also known as the “Incident on King Street,” occurred on March 5, 1770 in Boston, Massachusetts. Before the Boston Massacre occurred, colonists were irate due to the Townshend Acts which was created by the British that put tax on tea, glass, lead, paints, paper goods, and many other common items. These items would be made in Britain and the exported to the colonies; therefore, Britain decided to put a tariff on these items, which included a fee for exporting and trade. The colonists were irate because they were British citizens. The Boston Massacre began with a small argument between British Private Hugh White and a few colonists outside the Custom House in Boston on King Street. The argument escalated, more colonists gathered and began to harass Private Hugh White by throwing sticks and snowballs at him. Colonists continued to increase in numbers until there were over 50 colonists at the scene and soldiers were sent to the Custom House to maintain the argument....

...The problem How do we keep children interested? To keep children interested you just have to do something that interest them for example if they prefer visuals then they enjoy videos, movies, charts, demonstrations and any thing else that they can visually see. Then some people prefer it if they have its said to them for example they would rather someone else read a book to them than them read a book to themselves. Another way to keep children interested is for them to read and wright, they prefer for information to be written and then enjoy reading the news, books, magazines, etc. They also will enjoy writing a short story about something they are really into. Lastly theres people who prefer doing and always having a hands on approach. depending...

...Guidelines on Writing a Philosophy Paper Author: Jim Pryor, Princeton University [pic] Philosophical writing is different from the writing you'll be asked to do in other courses. Most of the strategies described below will also serve you well when writing for other courses, but don't automatically assume that they all will. Nor should you assume that every writing guideline you've been given by other teachers is important when you're writing a philosophy paper. Some of those guidelines are routinely violated in good philosophical prose (e.g., see the guidelines on grammar, below). Contents • What Does One Do in a Philosophy Paper? • Three Stages of Writing o Early Stages o Write a Draft o Rewrite, and Keep Rewriting • Minor Points • How You'll Be Graded What Does One Do in a Philosophy Paper? 1. A philosophy paper consists of the reasoned defense of some claim Your paper must offer an argument. It can't consist in the mere report of your opinions, nor in a mere report of the opinions of the philosophers we discuss. You have to defend the claims you make. You have to offer reasons to believe them. So you can't just say: My view is that P. You must say something like: My view is that P. I believe this because... or: I find that the following considerations...provide a convincing argument for P. Similarly, don't just say: Descartes says that Q. Instead...
