...job is multifascited as the exec director, I manage the JMJ centers, 2 centers and mobile centers that go around on an RV. Coordinates everything, helps out in centers, go into the community. What JMJ is, what we do, promote that in the community to help secure volunterrs, fundin,g, promote awareness. Do a lot of strategic planning on how we're gonna grow. Trying to figure out what addicitonal programs we can offer. And then go out and do the speaking and build awareness. Various churches, youth ministries, and drink beer too. Whatever we need to do, oh I'll do it. I'm also an event planner. It's wonderful. Up until july, I was an engineer. Doing it for 11 years. Involved in JMJ, I loved everything about it, I was just busy. I had 3 little kids and work and all kinds of stuff going on. Not as involved as wanted to be. In April, our previous exec director wanted to retire. Looked at husband and said wanted to do this. Very fufilling. Transition into role. Completely new to me. So much fun and so awesome to be able to effect people's lives everyday. See the joy and gratefullness. Beautiful experence. Do you like your job? What do you like about it? I think the biggest thing is to be able to affect people in a positive way. As an enginner, I got to talk to oeopel and develop code, it was kind of boring and wasn't fulfilling. It was comfortable, I appreciated being paid very well. That was the hesitation. Once I made the jump, I realized that to be able to interact with people...

...been the type to own up to them right off the bat. I find it awkward and sometimes too far off, raising a problem when ignoring it was all you probably needed. The thing is I still think about it. You’re not a idiot; it’s pretty obvious. I think you’re amazing and that won’t change no matter what this manages to morph itself into. And in my opinion, it doesn’t need to. But I think about the song, I think about the poems, I think about the unfinished story rotting because I’ve lost what motivated me to complete it. A story is a what-could-have-been right? When we daydream about our futures, daydream about bravery and acceptance and victory, it’s just a fantasy story of our lives. Sometimes I just have to write it down to make sure I don’t lose it. Don’t forget it. Understand that once upon a time, I was such and such. People say in the future, they’ll look back and laugh. I won’t laugh; I’ll understand. Perhaps not why, why you, why this time, why so silent and why so demanding but I’ll understand the circumstances. I’ll understand what drove me and what tore it apart. My entire life’s story out there for everyone to see. Sometimes I feel so exposed. It’s weaving together assumptions that are sometimes so out there, right in the open. But that’s okay, because even things I write a month ago, I no longer understand. I don’t know whom I was so pissed off at and what made me write a passage on loneliness. I don’t need to. It’s all in the moment. &...

...I am 47 years old and I live in Texarkana, Texas. I moved to Texarkana about twelve years ago to get away from the craziness in Houston, Texas. So, I decided to move to the country where I now live with my boyfriend, two, toypoodles, a ferret and my boyfriends parents. We all live in the country on 5 ½ acres. Our home is 2 homes in one which are both separated, the parents live on one side and we live on the other. Once you have been use to living the city life and move to the country it can be quite an adjustment because there is not much to do in Texarkana, Tx compared to Houston. For instance, simple things for me like driving to town seem like such a chore. Since moving to the country instead of going shopping for dinner no more then a mile from home I now have to drive over fifteen miles to town. Sometimes i feel like I have wasted my entire day. The up side of living in the country is that it is quite peaceful and you do not have your neighbor in your back yard. I have four children 2 girls and 2 boys. My girls are Diana my oldest 29 who has two children My grandchildren Makelia 7 and Baby Juan 4. My daughter Mary is 28 and she has 3 boys Vince 8, Louie, 3, and Baby Luke who is 1 ½ . Then, my boys are Brigido 26 (he is my trouble child) who gave me my 2 beautiful grandchildren Isaiah 8, and Destiney who is 4. My baby is Cameron he is 22 years old and in college in Austin, Tx. ...Experience of English Learning As leaning English for almost fifteen years, I have to say I had a lot of experience of learning this language. Yes, I studied English for fifteens, it’s been a long time, but I still can’t speak English fluently. Honestly I don’t think my English is close to “fluently”, I think my English still can describe as “broken” or “fractured”, just like Amy Tan’s mother. The good news is I can feel my improvement, and maybe in years, my English would no longer be “broken”. Any way, as learning English for fifteen years, I always have some interesting things to share. There’s too much to talk about, like my favorite teacher, or the worst teacher I’ve ever met, or the experiences I went through when I first come to America. But because Amy Tan and Elizabeth Wong’s stories, I’d like to share the story about my first English teacher Mrs. Wu and my mother. So let me talk about Mrs. Wu first. I met her in the first year I went to elementary school. She is not the English teacher in school, and actually she was not the real first English teacher I met, but she made me interested in English. We already started to study English in grade one. However my parents thought the English that I learn in elementary school was too basic, and they thought English will be very useful. So they find me an English class outside the school, I met Mrs. Wu there. I didn’t want to have the class at first. I have no wish to learn a foreign language at that time. That means I have to...

...000 with English being the most popular. English may not be the most spoken language in the world, but it is the official language in a large number of countries. Throughout the world, when people with different languages come together, they commonly use English to communicate whether it might be spoken through physical interactions or putting words together. The three types of languages that I use to communicate are English, Urdu and body language. I am one in the 2 billion people that use English even though it is my second language. Language is the human ability to acquire and use complex systems of communication. In the United States, speaking English immediately opens up opportunities regardless of your ethnicity, color or background. Since English language is so widely spoken, many people believe it is vital to learn as a second language. When I speak English, my tone depends on who I am talking to because if I am addressing an adult then it is respectful with correct English but if I am talking to friends then my tone is informal. It is believed that English is the language of trade. It is true that English has been introduced in the field of Trade and Business for a lot of years. In addition, English is a language that is used in films, music, television, and in a lot of more technological features like World Wide Web (internet). ...What made me the writer/ reader I am today? I would have to say I went through a lot of stages of writing and reading because some years I liked to read and write but other years I didn’t like it. I liked reading short stories, poems, and nonfiction books but I didn’t like historical stories, research, or long books. I’ve never a finished a book until high school because I never found a book I liked considering I never tried since I didn’t have an interest in reading. Although, now I can say I like to read if I find the right book when i use to say that i hated reading. The youngest I remember writing was in 6th grade when I would write letters to my dad. I wrote letters to my dad after my parents got divorced since I didn’t get to see my dad from it. My letters would be about how much I missed him, how school was going, and how things were different. I wrote...

...CHARACTERISTICS OF INDIAN ENGLISH Indian English is a distinct variety of the English language. Many Indians claim that it is very similar to British English, but this opinion is based on a surface level examination of lexical similarities. Of course, one must keep in mind that not every linguistic item is used by every Indian English speaker and that a great deal of regional and educational differentiation exists. Even so, items can be identified which are indicative of Indian English speech and which are widely used. These operate on various phonological, morphological, lexical, and syntactic levels, which I will characterized with items brought up in the recorded discussions, in my previous experience with Indian English, and in scholarly writings about Indian English. References to the transcription excerpts (pages 17-26 of this report) are written, for example, as 1.3.4, which indicates Discussion 1, Excerpt 3, Item 4. 4. PHONOLOGY I was able to do very little on the phonological level. I set up a test to see if the English alveolar /t/ would be articulated as the Indian retroflex /t/ or as the dental /t/ in different phonological environments. The result was that the retroflex completely replaced the alveolar; in fact, it has been found that the entire series of English alveolar consonants tends to be replaced by retroflex consonants (Trudgill & Hannah 1994, p.128). One item that did come out of the experiment was that some Indian English speakers had a tendency to...

...MALAYSIAN ENGLISH AND MANGLISH Generally, the terms ‘Malaysian English’ is always misinterpreted by most Malaysians as ‘Manglish’, let alone by the foreigners or the outsiders. People seem to be unaware of the fact that ‘Malaysian English and Manglish are actually two different forms of English. As a matter of fact, Malaysian English is normally known as Malaysian Standard English; a form of English used and spoken in Malaysia as a second language. It should not be confused with Malaysian Colloquial English which is famously known as Manglish, a portmanteau of the word Malay and English, or Street English. Basically, Manglish is a Malaysian speaking style with many similarities with the Singaporean Singlish. It is a distorted usage of English that is mainly spoken between the locals. It is also the English spoken by Malayalees of Kerala state in India who have not got good English education. Due to the multi-language environment, the English language in Malaysia has evolved into a creole with its own phonology, lexicon and grammar. WHY AND HOW MALAYSIAN ENGLISH AND MANGLISH ARE SPECIAL? Malaysian English is generally non-rhotic, regardless of the fact that all /r/s are pronounced in native Malay. Malaysian English originates from British English as a result of British colonialism in present-day Malaysia. It has components of American English, Malay, Chinese, Indian, and other languages: vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar. Malaysian English employs a broad A accent,...

...Are you a winner? This training course is called English for Winners, and before you delve into it, we should find out together if it is for you. Do you want to be a winner? Most English learners are unhappy with their English ability. If you ask the average English learner to assess their skills, you're very likely to get one of these answers: "I studied English at school for more than 5 years, but my English is not so good." "I speak a little English, but I think it's just 'school English'." "I understand it a little, but I can't speak it fluently." "My grammar is very bad. I've often tried to learn the grammar rules, but they're too complicated for me." "I had good school grades in English but I still can't speak it very well." These are typical complaints, and they make it clear that very few learners are really happy with the quality of their English. Most of them realize that their efforts are not yielding the results they expect. But instead of changing their strategy and trying to find the right learning methods and techniques, they simply give up. They think that they "just don't have a talent for learning languages". The winners, however, are those English learners who have taken control of their own programs. They know that acquiring English is an ongoing process. It is something that happens every day, day in and day out. They also understand that when it comes to learning English any progress is success. ©EnglishForWinners, Page 1 of 34 Dear Listener, since you...

...Diagnostic Essay The expectations I have for coming into English 11 would to learn and to grow my English skills, my assumptions about the reading would that they will be interesting, challenging reads, I have an array of strengths and weaknesses that contribute to the English student that I am. I can read well, but I don’t have the desire to read. I don’t like to read and don’t read that often, even though I should. I hope the year goes smooth and that I grow more in the pursuit of going to a good college and to have the skill set to write great, acceptable essays. My expectations for coming into English 11 would be to learn new concepts and to grow on the old concepts that I already know. I hope that English 11 takes me out of my comfort zone and focuses on more reading and analysis. That is a weak point for me, reading and then analyzing the passage or even a whole book. I hope to learn more about figurative language, because in some of my other classes the kind of advanced English is hard to understand, and the meaning behind some of the way the words are worded....

...in the English language In the 3th grade I started having English classes. Back then I did not know how English would be such a big part of my life as it is today. I think that especially my generation use English on an everyday basis and as a way of a natural communication. One of the reasons why we speak, read, talk and write so much English is because of the social media. For the common youth of 2015 social media is a fundamental routine and habit of our everyday lives. We use social media to connect with people all over the world, in the English language. I also use my English to read articles, reviews, blogs, and watch YouTube videos. I really enjoy to watch movies as well, and sometimes it is not possible to get Danish subtitles, on some English talking movies. It is not only on the media I use the English language. I have read a lot of books on English too. Personally I think that in many cases the language in books are better, and more interesting, when it’s written in the author’s own language, and with his or hers own words. Some books don’t even get translated to Danish, and then it’s practical being able to read English. I have read books like the perks of being a wallflower, Shovel ready, IT, Lolita. Good English skills are also very convenient when you are in foreign countries. Most countries, especially the youth, are very English talking...

...text there was a question like “What factors influence your language performance?” To answer this, there are many factors. During our discussion in the class, we have discussed about the interlocutor influence as one of the factors. In the class, we discussed about Takahashi’s study which examined Japanese college students as exchange students in the US college. The study found that Japanese exchange students speaking in English to other Japanese have more hesitation, shorter and less communication and negotiation, and lower comfort level. On the other hand, students felt less hesitation, spoke longer, negotiated more, and comfort level were higher when they spoke to nonnative Japanese speakers in English. I personally have experienced feeling somewhat similar to the participants in Takahashi’s study when I was still struggling to learn (acquire) English during my primary education. I felt hesitation, less length conversation and lower comfort level speaking with other Japanese people in English. There are few reasons why I felt like that. First, both interlocutors and I had higher proficiency in Japanese (L1) rather than English (L2), therefore our communication were no that smooth. I felt hesitation and less comfortable for speaking English when the interlocutor had bit higher English...
