...Vanessa Rojas Ph.D. Gheorghiu BU 203 10/25/2014 Company Case 6: Darden Restaurants 1.) Darden displays geographic segmentation with the different cultures each restaurant portrays. The Longhorn steakhouse chain has a majority of its restaurants in the eastern half of the United States, giving it room for westward expansion. It portrays a Western rancher’s home and Olive Garden portrays an Italian family farmhouse. In demographics segmentation, Red Lobster filled the gap in the market between the still-young fast-food concept and upscale white-tablecloth restaurants. In psychological segmentation, Olive Garden builds a dining experience around the concept of a mythical Italian family. Olive Garden’s research shows that people go to a restaurant for emotional as well as physical nourishment. In behavioral segmentation, there is a drop in the frequency that diners are eating out at sit-down meals because of the economic decline. This is realized in usage rates. 2.) It’s believed that Darden has differentiated and positioned its brand effectively. All these chains have the same owner, but are completely different. They target a variety of different consumers. Darden is constantly tweaking its formulas to achieve the best mix of independence and collaboration among its brands. The different chains might use the same technologies for cooking and resources, but each brand retains its distinctive positioning. Red Lobster has changed its positioning for the concept of “stealth...

With individuals ranging from age 24- to 65 we want everyone to be able to enjoy themselves. Everyone has already agreed the beginning part of May would be the perfect time to take a family vacation. However the family lay divided on where they should spend their time vacationing. Our family has a limited time to take a vacation so it’s important for us to pick a great spot because no one wants to waste time on a vacation that is less than stellar. As a family we would like to enjoy the sun and the sites while keeping in mind each other’s personal preferences for fun. There are so many beautiful places to have fun but some have become increasingly more expensive to vacation at. As a family we have saved enough money to go on a vacation that does not total over 7,000. The family has saved for approximately two years for this vacation. Problem Statement Out immediate family includes my mom and Dad and two sisters and one brother. We all have different views on our idea of fun. My Parents don’t mind staying close by and having fun in a nearby state. However the siblings and I would rather spend time in some place further away so that we can enjoy summer weather and beaches. A variety of places have been thrown up in the air...

...Darlarna is a high-end Swedish furniture company that produces and sells various home and office furniture products across Canada. Despite having small distribution coverage, it managed to achieve high growth rates and profits between 2005 and 2007. As the company began expanding into the United States market in 2008, it found itself struggling to compete with the high rise in the factors of production and threats from competitors. The company soon reported a drastic decrease in net income and internal financial problems. Looking at the balance sheet and the information provided, the company should seek to retrench in 2009 in hopes of stabilizing profits and its financial problems. Despite the perceived potential in the U.S. market, Darlarna should reduce its growth and expansion because the financial crisis brings great uncertainty that would further threaten the survival of the company. From the balance sheet, it can be seen that the financial crisis has greatly impacted the financial outlook of the company. Prior to its entrance to the U.S. market, the company reported over $1.3 million in net sales with around $523 thousand in gross profits in 2006 and over $1.5 million in net sales with a gross profit of around $550 thousand in 2007. Despite the opportunity of gaining many potential customers in the U.S., the company only reported net sales of around $1.8 with $581 thousand in gross profits. Looking at the net sales and gross profits, the company’s rapid expansion into...

...PRIMA SEZIONE CONCETTI BASILARI 1.

...Guest Speaker Paper The guest speaker, Dean, gave me a lot of knowledge and insight into the event management and convention center business. He is very successful and managed to make his way through the ranks all the way up to a manager position. The OCC, which he works for is one of the largest and most successful convention centers in the nation. The OCC is the second biggest convention center behind Chicago in the United States. The location of central Florida and these huge buildings help OCC be in high demand for events. The Sears Tower would be able to fit lying down inside of the west building. The North/South building is smaller and shaped more like a box but still is large enough to host several events at the same time. Orlando is considered a first tier city. A first tier city is a city that is able to accommodate 30,000 people or more for an event. Other examples of first tier cities are Chicago, Las Vegas, New Orleans, and Atlanta. The OCC is also a nonprofit business. It infuses the local economy with new money and expanding business. According to Dean they have only made a profit on two events the entire time he has worked there. The energy bill alone for a year is nine million dollars, with some of the high traffic months costing one million. Dean went through how he started out as a security guard to the position he is at currently. One of the things he stressed is you will mess up but make sure to learn from your mistakes. He also walked us through many...

Shaq, standing seven feet and 315 pounds, is arguably one of the most dominant players in NBA history. At Louisiana State he was named 1991 College Player of the Year and a unanimous first team and All American in both 1991 and 1992. He would drop out of college in 1992 to pursue his career in the NBA. The Orlando Magic drafted him with the 1st overall pick in the 1992 NBA Draft. In Shaq’s rookie season he was with the Orlando Magic, he finished in the top ten in scoring, rebounding, blocks and shooting percentage. Shaq would fail at the free throw line though.
