TED Talk: Secrets Of Success in 8 Words, 3 Minutes
Everyone has their own definition of success. Some people define success as setting goals and accomplishing them, graduating high school, or even as simple as making an A in Algebra class. In my Learning Frameworks class the teacher made us watch a Ted talk about success. I found this video interesting because the whole reason I am attending college is to become successful. Richard St. John has taught me in eight words the aspects of success.
In the video St. John describes a situation in which a girl asked him, “What leads to success?” St. John states, “I felt really badly, because I couldn’t give her an answer.” For this reason, St. John decided to help teach kids how to succeed. After a lot of interviews with different TEDsters, St. John was able to do this. Now, Richard St. John gives his presentation to high school students.
Next, Richard St. John’s continues by describing what leads to success. He states,“And the first thing is passion.” St. John lets the audience know Freeman Thomas, a TEdster, told him he was driven by passion. Next, St. John says,“Work.” He mentions, Rupert Murdoch, a TEdster, said to him that any type of work is hard. He continues his presentation and mentions the next aspect of success is good. Alex Garden, also a TEDster, is mentioned because what he thought led to success was, that you had to find something and be real good at it by practicing. Next, St.
John says,“Focus.” He mentions Norman Jewison, another TEDster, because he also said you have to find something and focus on it, to become successful.

Then, St. John says the next aspect is,“Push.” He recalls David Gallo,a TEDster, telling him that you have to learn to push yourself through being shy. Serve is the next aspect Richard
St. John mentions. Bill Gates said to St. John he had and idea. That idea was founding the first microcomputer software company (Gates). The last aspect of success is persistence. Another
TEDster said you have to learn to persist through failure and crap (Kraus).
The video ended with Richard St. John stating that if you do those eight things they will lead you to success. I also believe these eight aspects will lead you to success. St. John was really persuasive in this video because he was able to provide the audience with trustworthy sources. He and his sources were trustworthy because all the information was advice from successful people. I recommend this video to other students, like myself because if you're in college you're there to become successful and this video will help you achieve your goal.
