In-House Sales
The front office plays a vital role in the success of all departments within the hotel. When a traveler is checking-in, they are usually thinking of other things than the necessities such as food and beverages. When the front office staff informs guest about all services provided by the hotel, guest will know what can be obtained. They will know how to get it when they want to. Your guest will never buy what they do not know you have to sell. Referring guest to purchase food and other services will only increase each department’s sales.
When brainstorming, I would invite the front office staff and departments heads from most departments in the hotel. They can give insight to their products and offer solutions to presentation verbiage. Ideas for improving the point of sales office would be to review features and benefits of each department. Often, it is not enough to just tell the customer about the feature, but why then want to purchase what they are selling. I would also have some type of incentive plan for selling other departments, even if it was not financial incentives. Cross training the front office staff, even to a minimal degree, would also help to maximize each departments efforts.
The front office is responsible for many functions. The hotel’s bottom line is certainly tied to the performance of the front office. Not only would sales increase, but the guest experience would increase as well. There are times when a person will not buy anything else the hotel has to offer. I believe, this is a result of the customer not knowing what the hotel

Forecasting for House Sales in Us

...Forecasting Project House Sales in USA Presented by: Michelle Deets Ravin Seju Ankan Sinha March 7, 2016 Professor Dawit Zerom ISDS 526 Executive Summary The data in the report “Monthly total houses sold in the United States for the period January 1978 through July 2007” is time series data representing sales in thousands of units. The data has not been seasonally adjusted. Our project was to produce forecasts of housing sales by creating a model using Forecast Pro’s Expert Selection Method. The model was generated by withholding 2 years of data and creating a forecast based upon the data from January 1978 to July 2005. We provided fit measures based upon MAPE and RMSE and evaluated the model’s accuracy MAPE, RMSE, and GMRAE from Forecast Pro’s out-of-sample statistic evaluation table. The MAPE numbers show that the forecast expands from a 7.95% error at the beginning of the holdout period and quickly grows to 32% error within 24 months. The acceptability of this error depends upon which managers are using it. The housing industry touches many fields, from moving to painting to construction to land purchases. This large of an error might could be unacceptable given the amount of risk and resources involved in construction of new single family homes; a manager might prefer to only use the first 6 months of forecasted data to stay within a 10% error range. Looking at the results of the forecast’s graph, the actual data (Exhibit A, represented by the...

Examination of the Article, "New-Home Sales Fell 3.3% in February"

...Journal: Economics Examination of The Article, “New-Home Sales Fell 3.3% in February" The article, “New-Home Sales Fell 3.3% in February”, authored by, Jonathan House, dis-cusses the nation’s faltering housing market, only augmented by recent severe weather. A recent studied proved that current sales of newly-built houses decreased a substantial 3.3% to a season-ally adjusted 440,000, compared to a month earlier. This trending downward slope has been in effect for the last few months. While it is true that sales of housing increased over the last year, it has been rather sporadic. In fact, due to increasing mortgage rates and housing prices, it has been very inconsistent.Along with decreasing sales of newly-built homes, existing home sales have suffered too. Existing home sales decreased this past February, which has been a reoccurring theme the past two months. According to Mr. House1, “The Federal Reserve last week signaled a more aggressive path for future interest-rate increases than many investors were expecting, which could put more upward pressure on mortgage rates in the months ahead”(House). Increas-ing mortgage rates have, in fact, been a major factor that has caused buyers to hold off on pur-chasing new homes. “A 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 4.32% for the week ending Thurs-day, according to Freddie Mac. That is down slightly from the prior week but up nearly one per-centage point from a year ago”(House). Along with the spike in mortgage rates and housing pric-es...

Discussion of Tax Issue on Claiming Dependant

...need to examine here are (1) How much gain should Ted and Ruth realize and recognize on sale of their principle residence? What is the nature of such gain? Should they include the gain in their gross income? (2) Are Ted and Ruth allowed to deduct expenses for their vacation home on the joint tax return? According to Internal Revenue Code section 121 (a) & (b), individuals can exclude up to $250,000 gain from gross income on sale of a main home (or $500,000 for joint returns) as long as they have owned the home and used the home for a minimum of two years. The two years are aggregating which means your living period in the house does not need to be consecutive. However, the $500,000 limitation does not apply to the married couple in our case since Ted fails the use requirements mentioned above (section 121 (b) (2) (A) (ii)). Since Ted moved into the Richmond home on December 13 of 2010 and that the sale date is September 1 of 2012, his stay in the house is less than two years. The amount they can exclude should be the sum of each spouse’s limitation amount determined on a separate basis as if they had not been married (section 121 (b) (2) (B)). Since Ted would not have owned the house if he had not married to Ruth, the amount of gain they can exclude shall not exceed $250,000. Now let us look at how much gain will be realized on the sale. According to section 1014 (a) (1), basis of Ruth’s house, from which she inherited from her mother, shall be the fair market value ($315,000)...

Bus 200 Chapter 10 Hw Q's

...BUS 200 - 226 Professor Margaret Parker Chapter 10 Additional Questions # 1, 2, 4, 7, and 8 1. Brockwell left his boat at Lake Gaston Sales to be repaired. Brockwell was required to sign a form that states that Lake Gaston Sales has no responsibility for any loss to any property in or on the boat. After the repair, Brockwell is missing electronic equipment and other items of his are damaged. Lake Gaston Sales is using an Exculpatory Clause. In some cases an exculpatory clause is may be unenforceable. Items damaged and stolen from Brockwell’s boat could be a result from Lake Gaston’s Sales’s negligence of taking care of and respecting customer property. This Exculpatory Clause likely will not be enforced because it is seeks to immunize Lake Gaston Sales from any negligence. Similar to the Ransburg V. Richards case. 2. Albert Voorhees was hired as a salesman for Guyan Machinery in West Virginia. Upon hire he was required to sign a contract that would require him, if he left, to not work for a competitor within 250 miles of West Virginia for a period of two years. Noncompete clauses are generally reasonable if they are necessary to protect trade secrets, confidential information and customer bases. Noncompete clauses should also be reasonable in time, geography, and scope of activity. 250 miles and two years before Albert Voorhees can work for a competitor is unreasonable. Another factor is that Polydeck is only a competitor for 1% of Guyan Machinery’s business...
