...Should Love be Influenced by Name? “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose/By any other word would smell as sweet.” (2.2.43-44) Throughout the play Romeo and Juliet, it is clear that the theme is love; specifically, the influence love has on the way a person acts and feels. The quote questions the power of a name, specifically that of a rose. The quote illustrates the fact that even if one refers to a rose by a different name, it smells just as sweet. The quote develops the theme as it illustrates that when one is in love, little things such as names do not matter and that they should not influence how a person sees and loves someone. In addition, the quote also reveals that Juliet is very impetuous. Juliet is so madly in love with Romeo, that she does not even stop to think about what she is saying and how she is acting. The quote illustrates that she doesn’t find value in a name and that she is willing to push her own name aside because of love. Moreover, the quotation foreshadows later events. By saying that names have no influence over how one acts when in love, the quote hints to the reader that both Romeo and Juliet may put aside their names/titles so that they can be with each other. Furthermore, the quote also...

...especially this abstract are “name” and “love”. They are repeated many times. And no wonder, we know, that one of the main themes of this play is unhappy love of the main characters. Concept of love is percepted by the reader in two meanings: something high and beautiful and dark, unlucky at the same time. The second word is name. Because the name is the only reason they can’t be together, they hate their names and would be happy to change them, if only they could: “ 'Tis but thy name that is my enemy” “By a name I know not how to tell thee who I am: My name, dear saint, is hateful to myself, Because it is an enemy to thee; Had I it written, I would tear the word”. As to the compositional structure, this abstract consists of dialogues, monologues and author’s remarks. It should be mentioned, that the role of author’s remarks is used to the description of the place, changing of the characters on stage. In this text remarks are almost absent: “Enter ROMEO”, “Nurse calls within”. The structure of dialogues isn’t homogeneous. Replicas of the characters are different in terms of length. It depends on the topic of conversation: when they discuss their feelings, replicas are rather long: “'Tis but thy name that is my enemy; Thou art thyself, though not a Montague. What's Montague? it is nor hand, nor foot, Nor arm, nor face, nor any other part Belonging to a man. O, be some other name! What's in a name? that which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet; So...

...blessed with the middle name Ellen. Tracing back to my great great grandma the name Ellen made its debut into the family tree. There was a generation skipped where it wasn’t present but my grandma had brought it back in style. Although there may not be a true heart to heart meaning behind it, giving the girls in the family the middle name Ellen is a family tradition and carries on a legacy. I plan to carry on this tradition some day and give it that same love past generations have. It was December 9, 2000, and my mother had been laboring with me since the night before. Once I was born it was the time to tell the doctors what I would be called. From the beginning of the pregnancy, my mother knew she wanted to carry on the middle name Ellen. Ellen means “Light, Torch, Bright” and originates from the Greeks. Previous holders of this name were my great great grandma, Sarah Ellen, my grandmother, Mary Ellen, and my mom, Denise Ellen. Personally, I have never really thought much about my middle name but now, I see that it’s not just any ole name. It’s a name with great meaning and love behind it as...

...Shakespeare has shown decisions people make while in love, with the belief that the world is against them. The excerpt from the play, Romeo and Juliet, takes place by the balcony of the Capulet household. During the excerpt, Romeo is eavesdropping on Juliet, who is professing her love to him. Romeo then burst out of the shrubbery to confess his love for her. The message Shakespeare gets across the best is that in love couples act impulsively, when they feel the world does not want them to be together. While Juliet is dreaming aloud, she remarks that,”’ I’ll no longer be a Capulet”’(Romeo and Juliet 2.2.36). This quote illustrates that people in love act impulsively ,while the world does not want them to be together, because she is willing...

...Love is a strong feeling that can make people do things they never thought of doing before and brings people together. When someone is in love, they are emotionally changed and their actions and behavior is drastically changed. Love can also be expressed through works of art, literature, and songs. One such example is the play Romeo and Juliet. In this play it shows a tragic love story between two star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet. Romeo comes from the family of Montague’s and Juliet comes from the Capulet’s. The Montague’s and Capulet’s have had a major feud going on for many generations, which subdues the deep love between Romeo and Juliet. In the famous balcony scene Juliet pours out all her true feelings for Romeo with thinking that Romeo is no there, but actually Romeo is hidden in the...

...WAY OF THE WORLD and Sheridan’s THE SCHOOL FOR | |SCANDAL | Submitted by: Name:Aishwarya Bhardwaj Roll no.:5869 Restoration Comedy is genre of drama ,better known as the Comedy of Manners, as it deals with the externals of life in upper class society, interested in the fashions of time, its manners, its speech, its interests. The scenes are set in the parlours, coffee houses, streets and gardens of London. The characters are chiefly the people of fashion. The theme mostly is love intrigue developed with clever dialogue. Social conventions are accepted, at least the conventions of courtly life and aristocratic society, but they are sometimes played with and made to appear ridiculous. Wit and clever dialogue, in which indecent thought come before everything. William Congreve, an English playwright brought to perfection what is commonly termed the Artificial Comedy or the Comedy of manners. The Way of the World is the supreme example of the genre. Comedy of Manners is a genre same as Restoration Comedy but it differs in one aspect only that is of immoral and licentious behavior which is absent in the Comedy of Manners. Richard Sheridan, an English dramatist also wrote comedy of manners and his drama The School for...

...short story, The Man Who Loved Flowers, manages to craftily blur the lines between love and insanity. King vividly describes New York City as a beautiful, vibrant place on that particular Spring afternoon. The only point in the beginning of the story where things don’t seem wonderful is where the radio is playing as the man buys his flowers. The news describes the problems of the world (including the hammer murderer on the loose), but it’s brushed off because the world seems bright at that moment. At the story’s climax, the imagery is dark and the sounds described are designed to cause the reader to imagine pure cacophony. Tomcats “making alien love” and a screaming woman are certainly not pleasant sounds. The most important fears expressed in The Man Who Loved Flowers are the fear of strangers (the unknown) and the fear of love (the fear of loss). The story takes place on a beautiful afternoon in May of 1963. Everything looks positively radiant with Summer coming quickly. Everyone smiles when they see the man in the gray suit because he is so obviously in love. The young man approaches an older gentleman who is selling flowers and buys the most expensive spill of tea roses. As the afternoon turns to evening, he makes his way to Norma’s. When he sees her his heart skips a beat. “It’s always a sweet shock to see her.” When he goes to her she pulls away. She tells him that he’s mistaken and her name is not Norma. We are then presented with the true identity of the man. Of course...

...Amoretti : Sonnet 75 This poem is written in beginning modern English. Edmund Spenser uses some dutch words in his poem, like strand (now: beach). Here we have somebody who writes the name of the person he loves on the beach, because he wants the world to know he's in love. It's not clever because when the tide comes, the waves will wash it away. In poetry they use metaphor. An example : “you are like a red rose”, a red rose is a metaphor for beauty. Line 1-2: ‘’One day I wrote her name upon the strand, but came the waves and washed it away.’’ The speaker and his love are at the beach (strand) and the speaker is in a romantic mood, because he writes her name in the sand. The waves wash the name away. Line 3: “Again I wrote it with a second hand,” The speaker writes the name again. Second hand is the same as again. The line needs to be complete and he had already used “again”. Line 4 : “But came the tide, and made my pains his prey.” Tides: the periodic variation in the surface level of oceans. The tides are a metaphor for life and death, often used by poets, because it´s one of the cententies of life. The tide is presented as a predator. His pains (efforts) are the prey of the waves. Death is also a predator, the tides are life and death. Line 5-6: ‘’Vain man, said she, that doest in vain assay, a mortel thing so to immortalize.’’ Vain has two meanings here, Vain (man) = you think too highly of yourself. Vain (assay) = useless (try). It´s useless...

This one name will bring millions of people together to worship the God who holds this name. This one name will be cursed by man. This one name will be the topic of many discussions and heated debates. This one name is the name under which man will be saved. This name is not just a name; this name is Jesus Christ, Savior of the world, Jesus Christ the Son of God. This name is the name by which millions of people live their lives on a daily basis. This name is the name in which thousands of churches love their community. Through the name of Jesus power is given to powerless, strength to the weak, love to the loveless and hope to the hopeless. II. Section One – Jesus is God Jesus Christ claimed to be God. So what? A man who walked on this earth claimed to be God. Does this claim make this statement true? The man who claims to be Jesus Christ would have to “demonstrate God-like moral attributes of holiness, love and goodness. He would also have to back up His claim with demonstrations of power, vast knowledge and omnipresence.” (The Deity of Christ). There are eight aspects to Jesus’ claim to this deity. The eight aspects are as follows: 1. Jehovistic I AM 2. Old Testament Adonai 3. Identifies Himself with God in the baptismal formula 4. Be one with the Father ...

...the story wrote that. The story explores the problem of a man’s pride overcoming the love he has for his wife and race. In the short story, Desiree’s baby by Kate Chopin the character Armand Aubigny is racist, in denial and mean. In the story, Armand is a slave owner in Louisiana. In addition, the historical background puts race and heritage into the story as the key points to be seen and understood. The theory that I am applying in my story is that of Cultural Studies. The cultural studies theory concentrates on how and the way a particular subject relates to a social class, ideology, gender, ethnicity, and nationality. Armand Aubigny’s environment and childhood influences his lifestyle and beliefs to accept racial discrimination as common. By owning a family name that represents a boastful heritage “that is the oldest and proudest in Louisiana,” and a place in society as a plantation owner, Aubigny has superiority over the blacks (Chopin, n.a, 2). Therefore, Aubigny, confident that he is a white, a male, and a master in control automatically looks for a black mother Desiree, his wife to blame as soon as he realizes his son resembles a quadroon one quarter black. Because of his regular habit of racial prejudice, Aubigny betrays his loved ones and undergoes the trauma of receiving the news that his family is black. Armand Aubigny is like the other men in his family and fell instantly in love with Desiree; however, he had seen her many times before the day he passed her standing...

The product I will be promoting are all natural bath essentials, such as, bath soaps, body lotions, candles, and body scrubs. The name of the product is called Jill’s Love. There are a few reasons I named the product after my mother, Jill. One is because I feel my mother’s love is so caring and nurturing and that is what I want my brand to reflect. Secondly, the name Jill is simple and love is simple. Bath essential products are for you to care for your skin deeply and when you are using the product you feel more love for yourself. My product is to get the consumer more in tune with their bodies and skin care naturally. The niche market is target to women ages 14-60 who do not want to spend a fortune for loving their skin. The cost will range from $ 6-$35, which is rather reasonable as opposed of today’s competitors. This may seem as wide demographic age, but I choose this niche market because young ladies from the age of 14 start to care about different fragrances to make themselves feel like ladylike. Ladies from the age of 20-40 focus on their sensuality and pampering themselves after a hard day at work. The ladies from the age of 40-60 want to keep their skin rejuvenated and firm. Imagine this, you wake up in the morning rushing to get the day started...

...English 11.4 20 April 2012 Love Through Hardship Love through hardship is a reoccurring theme seen in many different types of art, whether it’s a movie or a painting. Love through hardship is even seen in everyday life. Tim McGraw’s poem “Don’t Take the Girl” is a prime example of love through hardship. For example, “Stranger came and pulled a gun, grabbed her by the arm said “If you do what I tell you to, there won't be any harm,” and Johnny said "Take my money, take my wallet, take my credit cards here's the watch that my grandpa gave me, here's the key to my car, mister give it a whirl, but please don't take the girl” (McGraw 1) This song shows that even through adversity love prospers and defeats tribulation. Furthermore, when a man or woman says something like this for their significant other it shows how much they love and care for them. Another example is when Time McGraw says, “Doctor says the baby's fine, but you'll have to leave 'cause his momma's fading fast, and Johnny hit his knees and there he prayed, take the very breath you gave me, take the heart from my chest, I'll gladly take her place if you'll let me, make this my last request, take me out of this world, God, please don't take the girl” (McGraw 1). Love does not fade when things get rough. The man in the poem is willing to sacrifice his life for hers, and that proves that love flourishes through all travail. That’s why “Don’t Take the Girl” by Tim McGraw is a perfect example of love through hardship. In...

...from me my good name Robs me of what which enriches him And makes me poor indeed. Your good name is your reputation. If someone does something to give you a bad reputation, he or she has really harmed you by making you disliked by other people. Shakespeare is saying that your reputation is even more important than your money, which is only "trash" in comparison. But it's Iago, the villain, who says this, isn't it? And it's Iago who is going to get Othello to kill his loving wife Desdemona, by stealing her good name -- by giving her a bad reputation. I believe that Iago is correct because all you really have in this world is your reputation. What you leave behind in this world is all you really have. So once your good name is tarnished, you really cannot come back from that. Your reputation precedes you. People will always remember the bad things that you have done no matter how many good things you have done. So by giving Desdemona a bad name or at least making it seem like she is doing wrong, it makes it seem like she is a bad person, when in reality she isn’t at all. All though Iago’s plan was genius, it was extremely cruel. You should never play with someone’s love for another for a personal gain. Love can cause people to do crazy things and in this case love is the cause of many deaths in this play. Iago doesn’t understand love and he has no respect for women at all so tarnishing a good woman’s name meant nothing to him at all. He doesn’t care about love, he only cares...
