Nursing informatics affecting attitude
The professional role of nursing is evolving and nurses are recognizing the integral connection of informatics competencies to evidenced based practice and the roles it plays in clinical decision making, nursing research, measurement of nurse sensitive outcomes, professional development, operational effectiveness, and ultimately the nurse-patient relationship (Schleyer, Burch, & Schoessler, 2011). It is essential with the advancement in technology that nurses become more user friendly and have a higher level of training in the area of nursing informatics. Nursing informatics has taken a step toward advancements in technology over the last decade with many facilities across the nation implementing these new systems. These new systems are designed to assist nurses and providers by reducing repetitive documentation, reducing medical errors, reducing medication and administration errors, increasing the quality of care for patients, and increasing patient outcomes. My attitude is positive and accepting of nursing informatics from the knowledge gained throughout the course. It has given me a higher level of awareness with everything nursing informatics can assist in and it has given me a feel of being more opened to using newer technology. Having a positive attitude can affect the overall implementation of a new information system becoming successful throughout the facility. It can be beneficial to all of those in different departments involved in patient care. These systems can allow for better communication and quicker response between providers, nurses, and other departments giving a better feel of trust in the relationship of the care providers and patient.

...In the ever-changing world of the “world-wide web,” healthcare is in the forefront of innovative computerized management systems and the provision of excellence in quality care is dually the journey and goal to enhance patient safety. Before venturing out this journey, it is of importance to understand the ‘why’ and the “how” and “what” will come naturally in succession. The patient is the “why” clinical information transformation is the push for all care providers within the four walls of a hospital, and private and satellite physician offices. Patient safety is the shared vision why pioneers of Health Information Technology (HIT) created computerized systems such as Electronic Health Record to meet the demands of healthcare today and tomorrow. As an example, Cerner Corporation and Dell Corporation- two big giants in the IT industry- are in a continuum to enhance their products and services. In addition, these products, services, and “solutions” are the “platform” that shell the delivery of safe patient outcomes and equip multi-disciplinary clinicians to guide and drive this patient-centered care; best practice and evidenced-care medicine is now the expected and standard of care for what is right for the patient. Furthermore, the present millennial generation drives or is driven by the “cloud’ world and the product is fast and smart, safe and secure, information gathering and sharing that is access anytime and anywhere. For example, a mobile device- IPhone- allows...

...Nurse Informatics Shannon S Goff Western Governors University Nursing Assignment The technology necessary to meet the federally mandated requirements which will affect the merged healthcare organizations. Electronic health records with satellite facilities supported by remote technology. Electronic health records emerged as one of the most relevant topics in health care; EHRs are central in the strategy of federal government to transform health care providing in the U.S. (Henricks, 2011). Federal actions are promoting EHR in order to guarantee important implications for nursing practices. The technology implies also payment penalties for those providers who do not manage to meet the requirements of EHRs use. EHR technology has to be certified according to technical and functional criteria that are set forth by the government. The using of EHR technology is significantly important for laboratories (Henricks, 2011) since the certification criteria of EHR have to be related directly to laboratory testing or laboratory management. Federal government identified the goals for improving healthcare and EHRs are central for these goals. EHRs with satellite facilities aims at the following points, it should: * improve safety, efficiency, and quality of public healthcare and reduce people's health disparities; * engage the patients and their families in healthcare services; * improve healthcare coordination; * improve public health and population in general; ...

...In this first reflection and before reading any of the course materials, consider what comes to mind when you hear the term informatics. What is it? How does it work? What are your assumptions? At the end of the module, has any of your assumptions or concepts about informatics changed as a result of your learning? Explain. My initial thought about healthcare informatics has not changed; I think it is supported by what I have learned in this course over the last 10 weeks. I understood informatics as being a vital piece to assist in abstracting data from different systems in a healthcare setting. It is used to help improve the overall quality and enhance patient care. I have found that having a clinical informatics team established at the healthcare organization is key to providing and guiding healthcare leaders in creating a system that will be utilized efficiently and effectively. As technology progresses toward interoperability (better interfaces and access to information on one system); Providers will have more time for quality patient care experiences and ability to communicate with other providers effectively; Patients and Providers will have access to diagnostic tests results, medication, and a summary of the provider visit, including the history of the patient’s healthcare status; Patients and Providers will use technology for face-to-face visits and counseling, as well as the ability to monitor vital signs and respond to critical changes. Ultimately, all resulting in...
