Josh, Josh’s mother, and his _______ teacher completed several rating scales to provide information about Josh’s behavior. They completed a broad rating scale (Behavior Rating Scale for Children, Third Edition). The parent and teacher scales assessed Josh’s Externalizing (e.g., aggression, hyperactivity), Internalizing (e.g., anxiety, depression), and Adaptive (e.g., leadership, social skills) behaviors. He was referred to the PASS Clinic by his mother based on concerns presented by Josh’s teachers regarding his academic functioning and his challenges with social skills. Particularly, his mother and teachers expressed concerns about his ability to make inferences while reading and to solve abstract math problems. Cognitively, Josh’s overall Full Scale IQ fell within the Average range compared to other adolescents his age. Josh’s ability to solve unfamiliar problems was a significant cognitive strength.
