Argumentative Essay: Should The Government Monitoring The Internet?

...shouldn't have to monitor the internet unless there's an on going investigation that involves internet traffic. Meaning drug deals, selling illegal things, selling people, and pretty much anything and like that. Not only should the internet not be monitored but the government shouldn't expel net neutrality. The vote on it was yesterday, December 14th, 2017. If net neutrality is gone, the government and every other company that owns an internet browser can control everything. From the speed of videos to the content you see. It's like a giant parental control. Keeping net neutrality will allow for all people to access the internet and it's great information. If it's gone, think of all the payments you'll have to pay....

...Coben believes that the internet in a dangerous place. Therefore, a parent has the right to monitor you kid. She states that as a parent you have the responsibility to monitor your children and keeping them safe.”Trust is one thing, but surrendering parental responsibility to a machine that allows the entire world access to your home borders on negligence” this quote implies that parents who believe that the internet is a safe place they are neglecting their parental duties. In addition a agree with Coben’s argument that spyware is a way to protect your children. I believe that parents should use spyware on their children’s computer only for the sole purpose of keeping their children safe. There are many disadvantages that the internet can have on your children’s life. Also, there is no reason for your child to hide anything from you. Parents have the right to monitor their kids if they feel like they are in danger. If the parents action is in the right state of mind then they are doing what a responsible parent would do. For example, ”One friend of mine, using spyware to monitor his college-bound straight -A daughter, found out that not only was she using drugs but she was sleeping with her dealer.” The dad was aware of the situation his daughter has been in and confronted her to talk out the situation. The first reason why I believe that parents should use spyware is that the internet is a treacherous place. The most common problem that the internet has is cyberbullying...

...easy for someone to procrastinate while using the technologies we have today, such as the internet and cell phones. Social media sites-- Instagram, facebook, and twitter-- youtube, online games, and online shopping are just some of the millions of distractions that can keep a student from doing their work. Before you know it two or three hours have passed and your assignment is due. Yes, we are exposed to a lot more information on the internet than we are in books, but all of the information presented to us is not always necessarily true. Source E states “There is no quality control on the internet.” Because of this, its not always safe to teach or get information from the internet. Having technology in schools is taking away from student’s intelligence. “We’re living longer and thinking shorter” (source C) -- The ability to be creative and solve things on their own is being stripped away because everything is available and students are not able to think for themselves because of all of the resources available on the internet. Now technology is so advanced that even the toys can take away from the imagination, “Most of us grew up reading books and playing with non interactive toys that required us to make up our own stories, dialogue, and behavior for them.” This takes away from the brain development of children. They are not able to exercise their brain because everything is already solved for them through technology. Our skills are being damaged day...

Net Neutrality

...Your internet provider provides you with everything from the internet. They essentially are like a highway to your computer. But what if this highway had a toll booth with three options; an extremely expensive ipass allowing rich websites to pass easily to your desktop, a normal priced toll with no ipass slowing down poorer sites, and the toll could turn away any website they like. Internet service providers are trying to push for this kind of internet, a money based internet where they don’t have to show any competitors websites at all. This doesn't sound like a good thing for the internet we know and love. In order to protect the fundamental principle that the internet was based on, and small web-based companies, net neutrality Must be protected and preserved. To understand why Net Neutrality must be preserved first you have to understand it, the economics of it, the arguments against the system, and the effect its change would have on small web-based companies. Net Neutrality can be defined very simply, that all websites are treated equally and distributed to the consumer or business equally. According to Tim wu, a professor at Columbia law School, he says on his personal website article Network Neutrality FAQ “The idea is that a maximally useful public information network aspires to treat all content, sites, and platforms equally.” What he is saying here is that basic concept of Net Neutrality is that no matter what provider, or platform (computer, tablet, or phone...

Some Advantages and Disadvantages of Internet

...Some advantages and disadvantages of internet [pic] Availability of Knowledge Advantages The internet which was once just a little puddle, now, have become an ocean; an ocean of knowledge. It is like a magical crystal ball which has an answer for every question of yours and the best thing about it is; it is completely free. I know how much I have learnt from the internet. How internet is better than books when it comes to knowledge? The answer to this would be the infinity of the internet. Plus, apart from this, learning from internet is much more fun. You have all kinds of videos about basically every topic that you can imagine of. Disadvantages If availability of knowledge helps people to do good things, it is also, a help for evil. There are thousands of websites which tells you ways to make a bomb or how to commit suicide. People even learn how to hack websites from the internet. [pic] Communication Advantages Another amazing thing about the internet is the communication that it makes possible. Most of the business firms communicate with each other with the help of e-mails. It is not only a faster way but also the safer way too. With internet you can video chat with a person who might be in some other continent as of yours. Disadvantages We are getting so use to of virtual communication that we are lacking a physical contact with our acquaintances. It is separating us from the real world around us, which I think smothers the development of personality of...

Internet

...It is very difficult to differ between the good and bad aspects of internet. There are good and bad things about every service of the internet.   If you chat you can meet many interesting people which come from all over the world. Distance is not important any more. You can meet people which are not able to find friends in reality because of their appearance. In cyberspace there is no appearance - the character of a person counts. But you also can meet people, who cheat on you and fool you. That can be funny, but it is not if you want to meet “real”, devine friends. Sometimes, if you meet your online friends it can be very thrilling. You make your own picture of your chat-partner in your mind. And what about your friends in reality? There will be less time left for them, if you sit in front of the PC all the day. But there is also the possibility to make your real friends your online-friends.   Searching for information you will find a huge amount of it on every topic you are searching for. This can be very comfortable. You only have to type in a word and you will find everything about it. But be careful! There is also false information. Sometimes it is hard to distinguish between true and false information.   Often you have the possibility to listen to music on the internet. You may also download it for free. That is very cheap because you only have to pay the telephone-costs and the music is for free. What does that mean for the musicians? They will not get all their money...

Technology

...Article “Is Google Making Us Stupid” by Nicholas Carr has opionins of technology changing the way of learning. You see it isn’t just google it could just be the amount of time we spend on the internet and the assurance of the information that is given. Not everything on the internet is true. Being on the web is a quicker way of learning. People are saying that the lost the interest in reading because they use the internet, but you may lose interest yet it is up to you to actually push yourself to read. Google isn’t making us smarter or dumber, but we do use it to help us with a bunch of things. It is technically helping us get information on unknown things we don’t know too much about or don’t know at all. Everything on google isn’t accurate, but can help you get the accurate information you need. Google can help develop and stimulate our brain development of information. In reality there are pros and cons to the usage of the internet. Everything has its pros and cons. However, the way we use the internet can only benefit or tear us down. We need to be able to use the internet the way it should be use and not use it for the wrong things. I specifically don’t think there is anything wrong with out usage of google/internet, but it is the way we use and how we use it. Basically, the internet was built to make school, business, advertisement, and work...

Why Does God Exist

...exists in the mind and in reality. If God only existed in the mind, then it is possible to imagine a being that is greater than God, however we are unable to do so. It is a contradiction to presume that we can imagine a being greater than God, the greatest being in existence (Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy). This theory was defended by prominent philosophers such as Ibn Sina, René Descartes, and Baruch Spinoza. However, the validity of this theory has been questioned by many philosophers, such as Italian philosopher Saint Thomas Aquinas and German philosopher Immanuel Kant. Saint Thomas Aquinas believed that the existence of God is unmistakable, and that deductions from claims of the concept of a Supreme Being are absurd. People have different concepts of God, and this argument would only work if everyone defined the notion of God in the exact same way as each other. As well, the concept of an absolute supreme being overtakes our restricted human...

Who's Blame?

...Violence is all over the media and internet but does it cause violence? The internet makes violence easier but does not cause violence. The media shows violence all the time but does not cause the violence. Violence first has to be in a person or everyone who watched the media or used the internet would. Many people use the internet but not everyone who does then uses it for violence. The internet does make things easier. Almost everything one would want to know is on the internet. Darren Beals who wrote Violence Culture: The Media, the internet, and Placing Blame decided to search the internet and see what could be found. Beals stated “After spending a great deal of time online… information is easy to find on just about everything. And there are many people who don’t hesitate to share their ‘knowledge’ with anyone- child or adult- who will listen. The second thing I noticed was that there really is no regulation on the internet.” Beal found anything on the internet and the people who would share information like how to build bombs. People have to look for other people like that. Even without the internet there has always been violence. Violence is everywhere in the media; there are violent video games and TV shows everywhere. My brother and I grew up on television and video games. Not once did I or my other brother get in a fight or bring weapons to school. The media did not make us violent though we watched many violent shows or played violent video games. Though the media...

The Effects of Internet on the Users

...Psychological Association (APA), spending a lot of time on the Internet can have both negative and positive effects on the users. The effects of Internet to the users are helping the users to get information, breaking the bound between people and social isolation. Firstly, internet can help users to get information. This is because Internet is a treasure trove loaded with information which offers knowledge on any given topic. Search engines make information accessible on various subject matters such as, government law and services, market information, new innovations and technical support and even dispense advice on love and relationships matters. Therefore, Internet can provide us with almost everything you could ever need to know right at your fingertips. Secondly, Internet will break the bound between people. Social networks such as Facebook and Twitter can help us to interact with people all around the world. Social networking has also evolved as a great medium to connect with like-minded individuals and become a part of interesting groups and communities besides family and friends. Thus, Internet is the bond between us and the world as well as our beloved. Last but not least, Internet can also cause social isolation. This is because Internet will create rifts between the real and virtual world which are so alluring that seems daunting going back to real life once hooked. ... How to Properly Analyze a Web Page At the click of a button, a person is able to search the internet for what he or she needs. In the past 25 years, the internet has hit the largest boom that has yet to be seen on planet earth. The internet is a handy tool that allows a person to access any information he or she desires effortlessly, with little to no cost, depending upon what the person is looking for. The key to using the internet is to understand its purpose and what the site is trying to provide. Not everything that is on the web is legit or trustworthy; this is why it is important to really analyze the website thoroughly before taking too many actions. In today’s paper, I will be analyzing a specific web page and discussing my findings. I will also be discussing the value and relevance of this site to clients or human services agencies. How to Evaluate a Website According to Widener University, there are different ways to evaluate a website. “When evaluating a website, a person should check for: authority, accuracy, currency, and objectivity” (www.widener.com). Websites are generated with several domains such as gov, edu, org and com. Unlike most sources, the internet is unfiltered. If there is any question whether or not the website is legit, then there is a slight chance that it may not be. There is slim to none on the control of what is being posted over the internet, so virtually anyone can create a website on any topic. Wake County Human Services Website Wake...
