...S. Congress passed the Children's Internet Protection Act and the Neighborhood Internet Protection Act. “The law places restrictions on the use of federal funding to support libraries if the libraries do not implement both Internet safety policies and implement filters for certain objectionable material which can be accessed over the Internet” (Online Libraries & Microcomputers, 2001). In other words congress wants to control the people of the United States and what they look at online, in a public place. If congress passed this law, it would impact research for education, personal, and professional use. Additionally, this is unethical because the US government should not impose control over what the public has access to on the internet. The United States Government wants to use information technology in public places to monitor the people by what they look at online. By doing so, institutions like public libraries or public schools would have difficulties in completing research due to the restrictions placed by the US Government. Many people go to libraries to use the computers provided to the public to complete research, write papers, or log on to the internet. Less fortunate people that cannot afford a computer or the internet, would be impacted the most. Someone who has a computer and access to internet at home would be able to look up anything they wanted without having restrictions. By only implementing this law at public libraries, how would this stop children from...

...Analyzing Internet Sources What did you learn? I learned that most of the websites that students overlook are actually the websites that are the most helpful. Many students use search websites such as: Google and yahoo to research information for their paper. Most websites that look like they have less information are mostly overlooked because of the glances. Student should examine all parts of the internet when using it as a research source. I’ve learned to always examine the URL, the synopsis, bookmark sites and research lists. Another great source of the internet is the local or school library. Many students including me overlook the library because it’s not convenient as the internet. The library takes up too much time versus the internet with all today’s new technology. I have overlooked researching at the library many times because the library takes up to much time and the internet requires less time. What did you not learn? I did not learn how to start a simple research using the internet or using textbooks from the library. I personally think using the internet as a research source is somewhat very difficult than actually going into the library. Most students don’t realize a bad site, the ones that ask you to register with them for more information. I also didn’t learn how to use the internet or the library as a research source without plagiarism even though I know. Many students think its okay to copy straight from the book or internet. Plagiarism is not taught...

...studies research and development where leaders gains essential data that is crucial in their decision-making activity. The integration of information literacy into the academic learning is critical to capitalize the characterization of leaders’ ability and credibility within the leadership arena. In this paper it will summarize the key points and discuss the influence of information literacy. Scholarship Information literacy has influenced scholarship, practice, and leadership no matter what area or discipline. Credible literacy information is available at the public or private libraries; however, in today’s technology, most literacy is circulating the Internet and the majority of people in this age are bound to collect literacy information through the Internet (Russell, 2009). Google, for example, is the number one source that is being used to collect information and used in the research studies (Badke, 2009). Most college students and students in the advance studies are attracted to using the Internet as a source to gather information because of the easy-to-use features available. Libraries are less important because of the lack of technology and sophistication method to collect information used by scholars. Internet access is predominantly used not only by the students in higher education but also elementary, high school, and high school graduates entering colleges or universities (Creating Culture in Literacy). Compared to using the library, the Internet has millions...

...literature and studies which are related to this research. The Literature Libraries are not about books. They are about information and knowledge. The past librarianship has been associated with books only because books were the primary manifestation of information. In today’s world, information manifests itself in various media one of which is the most notable medium (Bajoyo, 2011). Technology has unlocked a universe of electronic information resources. Electronic resources and services have become the most popular tools for research and academic activities. These electronic information resources provide faster and reliable information according to Bhukuvhani, Chiparausha and Zuvalinyenga (2012). Libraries are now universally recognized as important social institutions for diffusion of knowledge and information. No community, institution or an organization is considered complete without the support of a library and its effective service. Library is a growing organization which requires constant change in order to maintain a high degree of relevance to the environment. Scarcity of resources, information and document explosion and the demand for consistent, responsive and prompt services for clientele pave the way for librarians to find out solution for effective and efficient management of libraries (Egberongbe, 2012). According to Gakibayo (2013), electronic information has gradually become a major resource in every University library. The emergence of electronic information...

...New technologies are arguably replacing the need for libraries to provide face-to-face reference. However, by reviewing the data out there, we can see there is still a demand for the option of conducting reference sessions in-person, especially in academic libraries. Academic libraries are any library found in a four year institution, community college, or two year institution. The Facts of Reference We will first focus on the fact that technology has forced traditional reference to expand. Technical and off-site reference is in high demand and has caused an evolution in libraries to provide their patrons with more opportunities to have their questions answered electronically. Most of us can safely assert that internet usage is ever growing. However, according to the Internet World Stats, about 78.6% of the North American population has access to the internet, which is a 153.3% increase of usage from 2000. World wide, 34.3% of the population has access to the internet. Focusing on North American libraries, we can assume that the majority of library patrons have access to the internet. Therefore, it would be detrimental to libraries and their patrons if they did not provide any type of reference online, such as a 24 hour chat service or libguide. According to the CTIA, as of December 2012, 326.4 million devices, including smartphones, feature phones, tablets, and hotspots were active. This is a significant jump from only 140.8 million active devices in December of 2002...

...The importance of the internet in academic research and how it is misused. A short essay Neil Ndagwa. Abstract Technology is important because it provides us with easy, more effective solutions to everyday living. Without technology we could not communicate quickly from long distances, find important information and many other things we take for granted sometimes. In the field of research information technology is a very useful and important way of gathering information. The Internet is a great resource that is available to anyone who has access to it. The World Wide Web contains information from all over the world and is useful for all ages and for all purposes - from very complex things to very simple things, such as door-to- door directions and maps. The information contained on the Web can also be useful for academic research. The importance of the internet in academic research and how it is misused. The Internet is a powerful channel for sharing and accessing information. This characteristic has made the web a widely used tool for conducting research because it allows people to access a significant amount of information without geographic boundaries and time limits. Nevertheless reliability of the sources can be uncertain, timeliness unstable and a negligent use of the Internet can result in plagiarism. The biggest advantage in using the World Wide Web as a source for research is that it lets us look at specific topics...
