...Essay 1: ABQ Strategic Planning Opening a new electrical hand-tool manufacturing facility in San Jose City, Guatemala can and will be a very advantageous proposition of the stakeholders of ABM Inc. Due to the current state of Guatemala, ABM can exploit Guatemala’s down economy for a reasonable corporate gain; while simultaneously help rejuvenate Guatemala as a nation and economy. Due to the current landscape of the economic sectors in Guatemala, it is important to remember what their roots are. ABM’s addition of a manufacturing facility is a bit of an unknown for the local people. As such, we need to ensure that we are viewed in the best was possible to the nation, and to the people of this country. As such, below, I have outlined a strategic plan designed to make ABM profitable, while maintaining a high level of ethics, and being viewed as a “good neighbor and business partner” of the people and government of Guatemala. CORPORATE STRATEGIES: Maintain high quality and expectations: by manufacturing high quality, low cost, just in time electric tools that enhance our enterprise value. Make our partners (Guatemala) successful: through collaborative, trusted relationships and partnerships, assisting the government of Guatemala with increased revenue streams, narrowing the trade deficit and assisting with the creation of private financial operations. Take care of our people: by providing a safe, clean, and enabling work environment; secured by on-staff security detail...

...Bronte Barnes 30. 4. 2016 Spanish 1 Guatemala Guatemala is country located in central American, surrounded by the waters of the Pacific and Caribbean. Its name comes from two Spanish meaning “the snake eating bird” and “land of the forest” which is derived in 1523, from one of the Mayan dialects spoken by indigenous people at the time of the of Spanish Conquest. Although it is still used by outsiders as well as citizens today, many descendants of the original still prefer to Identify themselves by he names of their specific language dialects instead. Persons of mixed or non-indigenous race and heritage may be called Ladino, a term that today indicates adherence to Western, as opposed to indigenous, culture patterns, and may be applied to acculturated Indians, as well as others. A small group of African–Americans, known as Garifuna, lives on the Atlantic coast, but their culture is more closely related to those found in other Caribbean nations than to the cultures of Guatemala itself (Richard Adams). The national culture was also influenced by it’s arrivals of different ethnic, such as Germans, Europeans and etc. This made the Country rich but also created histories of violence and wars. Unfortunately this help make the country poor. Hundreds of years ago, the Mayan Indian and other tribe that lived in villages and mountains made gorgeous clothing and textiles. Guatemala is also a country of tradition, and many Indians still wears the traditional costumes. Although there...

...Mi Vida Guatemalteca I was born in Guatemala, raised for some time there and then moved to California. I remember my life back in Guatemala and what my daily routine would be. As I became accustomed to life in the United States, I found my routine changing as I no longer had certain responsibilities. What I would go do at five in the morning I would never do here, but me waking up at ten is never acceptable back in guatemala. There are many differences between my life here and Guatemala but there are similarities. I was raised in a little town name Santa Rosa, and it is customary that all children between the ages of eight to thirteen should go down to the pasture and milk the cows before eight in the morning. Also, once that was done you had to get ready for school and catch the bus to the city. Once school was over you had to rush back home so your mom could give you your errands and chores that had to be done before you could go out and play. A typical student would wear khaki pants, blue or white shirt, and black shoes because if you didn’t you would not be allowed into school. Lastly, before bed you would go down to the pasture again and move the cows to a different pasture for some fresh grass and water. I moved to a city called Desert Hot Springs, where I no longer had to wake up early to go to the pasture, but still wake up early to help my mom make breakfast for the whole family. I would go to school for almost nine hours and come home to chores that did...

...Introduction Coca-Cola is the largest soda provider in the world. Although it is widely consumed, many people are unaware of its labor violations. The company has come under fire for the way in which its workers are treated in Guatemala. The primary source of all the violence is the workers’ union. On February 25, 2010, Coke was sued by those Guatemalan laborers, who claim that they, “endured a campaign of violence” (bboyd, 2010) from the people who worked for the bottling or processing plants owned by Coke (bboyd, 2010). Issues Analysis This violence took place in Guatemala City. The perpetrators were employed by Incasa, which operated the bottling plant. One of the plaintiffs is Jose Palacios, who faced violence after rejoining the workers’ union in 2004. Not only was he shot at and threatened at the bottling plant, but armed men broke into his home and threatened his family (McWilliams, 2010). A few weeks after this invasion, in 2005, he was fired without a cause (Skeen, 2010). Another plaintiff in the case is Jose Chavez, a prominent union leader. In 2008, after he participated in collective-bargaining activities in Guatemala City, returned home to his waiting family. Upon his arrival, Chavez’s son and nephew were brutally murdered in front of his eyes and his 16 year old daughter was gang-raped (Skeen, 2010). This violence was a response to his activity in the union. Summary and Conclusions Although this has not been widely publicized, the labor violations of...

...Guatemala city , Guatemala “Why should I go to Guatemala and Dubai?”, is something you might ask. Well, they both bring wonderful warm weather. You can do so many activities like swimming and bike riding. If you live in a place that has bad weather you should take a vacation to these places. I chose Dubai and Guatemala. I chose Guatemala because I admire the historic background it has. Even though you're on a vacation you can still learn something . I chose Dubai because I like the fact that the city uses technology to lead its life. Also that it is so advanced in using technology. Now I had to plan my trip. First, I picked the flight and made a map plan for what I was doing. Then, I calculated the price of everything. Then, I found out more info about what the city facts are. I had shirts and shorts. I had sandals. I had some of my electronics. I had hats and a gigantic water bottle. Last, I had brought sunscreen and bathing suits. I also brought hygiene products to get ready in the morning. I woke up in the morning. I am excited for what I was about to do...

...overview of the textile industries in two emerging countries: Guatemala and India. The document analyses, compares and contrast the differences in the institutional structures of both countries and offers specific details and analysis of the textile industries for local and international businesses. Guatemala Republic of Guatemala is located in Central America bordered by Mexico to the North, the Pacific Ocean to the southwest, and Belize to the North East Honduras and El Salvador to the southeast. The country is mountainous with small desert and sand dune patches, having many hills filled with people, except for the south coastal area and the vast northern lowlands of Petén department. Two mountain chains enter Guatemala from west to east, dividing the country into three major regions: the highlands, where the mountains are located; the Pacific coast, south of the mountains; and the Petén region, north of the mountains. All major cities are located in the highlands and Pacific coast regions; by comparison, Petén is sparsely populated. These three regions vary in climate, elevation, and landscape, providing dramatic contrasts between hot and humid tropical lowlands and colder and drier highland peaks. Volcán Tajumulco, at 4,220 meters, is the highest point in the Central American states. Demographics Guatemala is a country of youth; 70% of its population is less than thirty years old. ...At the time of the Conquest, the Maya were confined to a single unbroken area that includes all of the Yucatan Peninsula, Guatemala, Belize and the western portion of Honduras. The Maya may be thought of as the greatest culture-givers and innovators to the rest of the Central America. They developed advanced systems of mathematics, astrology, and writing; they built cities of stone temples and pyramids; and lived in a society with daily religious practices. Although the geographic region in which the Maya had occupied has since become multiple conventional political boundaries, there is a commonality of histories, cultures, economies, political systems, and geographic features shared by Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras. More specifically, The Gulf of Honduras, also called the Bay of Honduras, is an inlet of the Caribbean Sea extending as far north as Dangriga,...

...I was conceived in Guatemala in a city called, Guatemala City. Life in Guatemala is hard which is the reason my folks brought me into the United States when I was eight months old. A portion of the things that make life in Guatemala hard is the brutality. Nonetheless, Guatemala has a lot of dedicated men, ladies, and youngsters who normally get compelled to start working as soon as they can walk. In any case, not at all like numerous different nations, Guatemala has a gigantic crime rate. I care about the innocent hard working people that live in Guatemala that get threatened to be killed if they do not pay a certain amount of money at a certain amount of time. The people who get targeted are famous athletes, small business owners, and people...

Imagine leaving behind the comfort of a heated home, a kitchen at your disposal, and leaving behind the comforts of a first world country. Imagine being five thousand feet above sea level, the air is thin, now imagine also having asthma. Imagine being surrounded by three active volcanoes, each you can see, and one begins the process of eruption. For me, I don’t have to imagine, I have done that. Last year, from January 15-24, I left behind everything I knew, and I went to Mixco, Guatemala. Last year in January, I had the privilege of going to the country of Guatemala with a team of seven other members. While there, we were building a church for a local village, Lo...

...America region. (Perez-Brignoli, 1989) It is known that Central America has seen wars and dictators, foreign interventions and economic crises. (Booth & Walker, 1999) To my mind, the three turning points that have created the internal political and cultural tensions in the Central America region from the colonial period to the present day are the following ones: • Colonization of Central America by Spain in 1523. • When Central America declared Independence in 1821 and on June 1, 1823 five countries of Central America were united. • Revolution in 1944-1954 in Guatemala. The first turning point can be related to the period of colonization. The local population tried to stand against the Spaniards but Indian tribes had no chances to win. All the cities were captured by the colonizers. Some cities were burned and great deals of local people were killed. The Spaniards had control over the whole territory of Guatemala and other countries of Central America. The life of local population changed completely. They became slaves who worked on the plantations and grew coffee and indigo, bananas, and mined gold and silver for the colonizers. These changes in life of the local population lead to organized struggle against the oppression but the majority of colonizers could easily defeat them....

...Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala. Out of all the countries mentioned, Guatemala was hit the hardest. There have been at least 92 deaths, 54 people missing and 59 individuals injured thus far. As a result of Agatha, there have been mudslides destroying homes, bridges have collapsed, and a giant sink hole. In regards to the giant sink hole, residents of Guatemala City stated that a three-story building and a home fell into it. Also, Agatha’s precipitation caused the levels of about nine rivers in Guatemala City to significantly rise. The focus of this analysis will be on the possible physical structure of the tropical storm that hit Central America and the process that caused precipitation. In diameter, tropical cyclones can vary from compact to very wide. As mentioned in the textbook, they can range from 100 miles to 600 miles (Christopherson, 2007, p. 180). The tropical storm that hit three different countries in Central America seemed to have covered a few hundred miles. Therefore, I predict that the width of this tropical storm was around 300 miles. Next, inward curving clouds caused Agatha’s rain bands to form with the eye of the storm. These bands went around the thunderstorm clouds which are also known as the swirls of the eyewall. As a result, the eyewall produces the most powerful section of precipitation (Christopherson, 2007, p. 180). This process is a possibly triggered the precipitation that caused the levels of those nine rivers in Guatemala to...

...On this trip God has revealed to me a lot about myself and what I am capable of doing if I let him have control instead of relying only on myself. This mission trip really helped me to give control to God for example I always get nervous when it comes to speaking about personal maters or praying in front of people who I don’t know but after a couple days in Guatemala I told myself that I would give all my worries and insecurities to God. It was after I did this that I realized that only relying on my own strength was preventing me from serving others to my full potential. Proverbs 3:5 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding”. I also learned a lot from the people at the orphanage in Guatemala just...
