...Table of Contents Company Overview and Analysis Objective 1 Assessing the Company’s Profits and Sales Growth 1-2 Assessing the Company’s Use of Assets 2-3 Determining Solvency and Liquidity 3-4 Matching Companies Exercise 5 Appendix 6-14 Company Overview and Analysis Objective SciTronics is a company that operates in the medical device industry; they sell to hospitals and other medical centers with the goal of manufacturing and supplying quality goods. Being in the medical market from 2005-2008, SciTronics has been forced to keep up with an ever-changing and highly competitive industry. For this reason I found it necessary to conduct an assessment of the company’s past and present performance. Our group’s objective was to assess the overall health and financial stability of SciTronics incorporated, to achieve this I implemented the Corporate Financial System Framework (See Appendix I) and calculated four groups of ratios: Profitability, Asset Management, Leverage and Liquidity. Assessing the Company’s Profits and Sales Growth First and foremost I looked at the company’s profitability ratios starting with sales growth from 2005-2008 (See Appendix D). Knowing how well the medical industry did during this period of time, it wasn’t a surprise to see that SciTronic’s sales growth had increased by 20.69 % compounded, increasing from $147,000,000 to $244,000,000. This number tells us that SciTronics was providing a quality...

...highlights high crime and low counties in the state of Texkansahomatucky per the Justice Department’s request. We were given county names, populations, area size, code, and the number of occurrences of seven different types of crime. We used the data provided to divide the counties into high crime and low crime areas in addition to creating a color coded map of the state based on our findings. Metrics Used: 1. Calculation of population per square (sq.) mile a. Individual county population/area(sq. mi) 2. Crime variable analytics a. Calculated each crime on a sq. mile basis for all counties (ex. murder per sq. mile = murder/population per sq. mile). b. Calculated the average of each crime using “crime per sq. mile” data. c. Calculated “total crimes” for all counties based on crimes per sq. mile. d. Sum of all crime averages (13.96) was used as a median to determine high and low crime areas. Results: High crime counties (crime total of 13.96 and above): Kern, Kent, York, Cook, Lake, Knox, Ray, Lane, and Webb. Low crime counties were (crime total 13.95 and below): Lee, Bell, Pike, Ida, Clay, Cass, King, Bay, Kane, Nye, and Jay Justification: At first glance, one would tend to assume that highly populated areas would have higher crime rates than the low populated area; however, this assumption is inaccurate. These types of assumptions lead to misrepresentation of statistical data and do not provide an accurate assessment of Texkansahomatucky’s...

...Violence in Video Games: Examining Violence and Competitiveness as Predictors of Verbal Aggressiveness Sean D. Badeer, Kathrine L. Lukes, Sarah A. Oltjenbruns, & Sergio D. Orozco Wayne State College Wayne, NE April 11, 2013 Abstract Violence in video games is the topic of much debate and controversy in the public arena. For this reason, it has been a heavily researched topic in areas of psychology and communication (Jeong, Biocca & Bohil, 2012). Much of the research on the topic examines the relationship between the violence in video games and aggression. However, despite the large community of research on the topic, researchers in communication have yet to examine the relationship between video game competitiveness and verbal aggression. Competiveness is a factor that must be considered if there is to be an accurate depiction of the impact of video games on aggressiveness (Adachi and Willoughby, 2011). The purpose of this study is to examine the impacts of competitiveness and violence in video games on verbal aggressiveness. Furthermore, this study examines the relationship between verbal aggressiveness and attitudes toward violence. In the results of the study, the correlation between competitiveness and verbal aggressiveness was found to be significant. The correlation between video game violence and verbal aggressiveness was not significant. Furthermore, no significant correlation was...

...1. Introductions and definitions: This paper is an attempt of empirical investigation in conversational analysis with the focus on open-class repair in English Lingua Franca interactions. However, before the investigation goes any further it is important to highlight and define some key terminology that will be utilised for the means of this paper. According to Levinson (1983) “Conversation analysis (henceforward CA) is known as an approach to the study of natural conversation which covers both verbal and non- verbal interaction in everyday situations”. This notion was developed in 1960s by Harley Sacks when he was employed at “the Centre for the Scientific Study of Suicide in Los Angeles”. He discovered recorded phone calls that laid a fundamental framework for the new method later termed as CA (Have, 2007: 6). Have (ibid) further reveals the two ways of how CA utilised in studies: a ‘broad sense’ also known as ‘oral communication’ ; though, the outline of this concept is used in a ‘restricted sense’ as it traces to early 1960s when it was firstly introduced by Harvey Sacks, Emanuel Schegloff and Gail Jefferson (ibid: 7) how interaction occurs. CA studies revealed that ‘casual daily talk’ with people is not a random dialogue but a “sequentially structured and interactively managed” (Firth, 1996: 238) conversation. The concept of CA was further defined and introduced by Emanuel Schegloff, Harvey Sacks, and Gail Jefferson in late 1970s. Since then, the role and focus...

Sunica Music and Movies is the company that I have chosen. Working independent of one another, the four locations cannot effectively service their costumer’s needs when it comes to inventory and special items, which is causing the stores to lose money due to the lack of good communication between each of the stores. By not having access to share, any customer information or inventory between the stores costumers are growing tired of the inconvenience. In other words, they do not have the best communications skills. What they are trying to do is make it very simple so that they are able to connect to each other through the internet to a central database so that customers are able to see what is available and what they have in stock. This way the stores will be able to communicate with one another through the internet and to know what is available at the other locations and what items that are being sold in order to keep the more popular items in stock and not waste time or money ordering the items that are not creating positive revenue. ...

...estimated road distance is 1,380 miles. (b) The estimated road distance is 830 miles. (c) Since both latitudes are in the same hemisphere, no adjustments need to be made. The estimated distance is 244 miles, or 244×1.61 = 393 km. (d) In this case, one point is east and the other west of the Greenwich line. Therefore, we need to set a sign convention. Let's set west longitudes as + and east longitudes as −. Thus, 2.20o E longitude is entered into MILES as −2.20 o. The estimated distance is 250 miles, or 250×1.61 = 402.5 km. 4 Suppose that a certain linear grid coordinate system has been overlaid on a map of the United States. The grid numbers are calibrated in miles, and there is a road circuity factor of 1.21. ...Child Exposure to a Batterer’s Violence: A Proposal for Research Melanie Dowling & Sandra van den Bosse University of Minnesota - Duluth Advanced Research, SW 8102 Dennis Falk July 17, 2007 Introduction Although child exposure to domestic violence is quite prevalent, a review of academic literature reveals few studies focused on the experiences of children living with a batterer’s violence. The search did not reveal any studies that focus on how children experienced an intervention by the child welfare community. Further research is needed to provide a voice for the victims and fill the information gap that currently exists. This research study will focus on the lived experiences of children exposed to domestic violence and the interventions, if any, they received. The intervention might have come from a child protection worker, a teacher, or a shelter program advocate. Uncovering this information will provide useful considerations for current and future interventions. Ultimately, it can lead to determining best practices. An intervention should be “just right” for each specific child and reduce any further trauma. Additionally, the intervention should allow the child to have a better understanding of domestic violence, provide more safety, encourage resiliency, and strengthen the bond with the non-offending parent, who is a victim as well. By interviewing adults who were exposed to a batterer’s violence as a child, but later decided to enter the child welfare ...
