The Inspiration of Music in a Young Man’s Life…. As a child with a childhood deprived by poverty, Ja’Vonni became very fond of music to escape his saddening reality. This attraction to music started extremely early for the young Ja’Vonni, it was said to have started before birth. He would always tell stories about how his mother told him that while pregnant with him she would play music for him and about how he responded to the music that she played for him. His mother said that if he liked the song he would begin to shuffle around as if he was dancing, and if he didn’t like a song or if she played a song that he didn’t like he would give her a slight kick in the side. Soon after birth, his musical side skyrocketed.…show more content… Mrs. Dubose had retired, and he no longer had music to keep him on the right track. So he started to hang around the wrong crowd, which later resulted in him becoming a nuisance to the faculty because of puberty and aggression. This went on throughout his middle school years and could have trickled into his freshman year of high school had he not joined the Sonic Boom of the South which is considered to the best band in his city. He came into a band program under the direction of a man that prided himself on having the best program in the city not only because of their playing capability, but their discipline. His name was Roderick D Wallace and he loved every aspect about music and what it did to change his life. At first Ja’Vonni was very headstrong and defiant, but with the help and punishments of Mr. Wallace he learned to fall in line rather quickly. He says he going to show that we are worth more to the human race than just a means of entertainment by humiliation to the other races. He is willing to do whatever it takes to make those generations after him realize that they need to be great so that they can alter this predisposition put on each African American child that is born into poverty. All of these things Ja’Vonni plans to do when he becomes an educator. In achieving these goals his ultimate goal is to ensure that all of his students have fun while doing it.
