...Response paper #2 Name: wenjia geng This paper provides an analysis of human rights catastrophe in our jails and prisons that people have to confront. And the author points out prisons’ growth can't be isolated from problems of our society, such as racism, poverty and global capitalism. And I want to talk about is the time for the prison approaching an end? Since 1970s, prisons have grown exponentially, because there exist a cycle of joblessness and incarceration. A plenty of people lost their jobs and prospects when corporations and deindustrialization migrate to another area. In the mean time, prisons will provide a lot of jobs and bring economic growth to some specific area that need help. When these depressed area gradually recover the economy. The cycle will set up naturally. Then the prisons offer an opportunity let people have excuse to disassociate from problems in our society, such as racism and economic and societal imbalance. Just like a sentence in the article ”It relieves us of the responsibility of seriously engaging with the problems of our society, especially those produced by racism and, increasingly, global capitalism.”(Are Prisons Obsolete? pg. 16) People most of time used to overlook problem of prison system. Conversely, people would like to regard the prisons as a solution to deal with some problems in society. This behavior not only let people ignore how much of a problem prisons are, but also helps us forget about how much we should...

...Jail and Prison Paper Ramsen Karaman CJA/204 When I think of the difference between Prisons and Jails, I think of short-term and long-term. Jails are most often managed by sheriffs and/or local governments and are designed to hold individuals waiting for trial or serving short sentences. Prisons are managed by state governments and the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) and are for individuals convicted of crimes. Modesto Men's Jail located in downtown is the jail I'm familiar with. Not that I've ever been in trouble but its the only jail near the area. The Average inmate population is 376. The Men’s Jail receives approximately 1489 bookings (arrests) per month. which I think is crazy! I've heard that if you get booked for 6 months in jail, you only serve half the time if you're behaving well. I have actually visited this jail for a school field trip in High School. It was very interesting. I had to sigh a document that stated that if anything happened that it would be my responsibly. The inmate were not shy to talk, they constantly said "Don't get in trouble, its not worth it, the food here sucks." I thought that was funny because that's really what they're complaining about, FOOD!! They were dressed in all types of colors (orange, blue, white). I also remember seeing Scott Peterson's files in the office. He had a huge section just for his files. I was shocked, it was a interesting experience. The prison that I know is near by...

...On 12/08/2017, I was dispatched to the Sumner County Jail located at 610 East Hillside, Sumner County, KS. for a battery report of two inmates in F pod. When I arrived at the jail, I met with Sgt. Church in the control room. He informed me that two inmates had been taken out of F pod for fighting and are currently separated in holding cells. Cpl. Fairbanks walked me to the first inmate in one of the holding cells, he identified himself as Dustin Scott Ikler. I read him his Maranda rights and asked him if he wished to talk with me, he agreed to speak with me. Dustin said he was laying on his bunk when another inmate began to antagonize him and call him a child molester. Dustin said this type of behavior had been going on for about a week with the same inmate calling him names. Dustin said as he was on his bunk that is on the top of a double bunk bed the other inmate came into the room and began to argue with him. As the other inmate was leaving he spit in Dustin's face, he got down off the bunk and the other inmate returned to confront Dustin. At this time Dustin struck the male with a closed fist twice in the face, the two began to wrestle around on the ground for less than a minute and then the fight was over. Dustin...

...The best part, for me, was not having the chains or handcuffs crippling the restrictions on my movement. The worst part was fighting the demons tormenting my mind about what my future will hold . Realizing the challenges ahead, I felt that I had to serve my time differently by keeping to myself, out of sight out of mind, considering the situation of having to live in the constant company of other inmates. Each tank contained a common area called the day room. Men could watch television on a flat screen mounted above the shower area where up to four inmates could shower side by side, locker room style. Whomever drew the blue print to this layout is an ass hole. This area is controlled by a correctional officer sitting at a picket station in the middle of the tank. The politically correct term for guard is “correctional officer,” but now I had not seen any “correcting” taking place. Inmate’s daily routine is games like chess, slamming dominoes, or playing Texas hold um’, not for reading or writing. . Some inmates argue on the phone with girlfriends, wives or family members making their time harder than what it really is. One thing about that phone is you never know what you will hear on the other side of the...

...One night I was at work and one of my clients came in the shelter intoxicated, so I asked her to go upstairs to her room and don’t come out until she was sober. A few hours later I heard arguing, yelling and screaming coming from upstairs. I went upstairs to find two of the residents arguing. One of who was intoxicated that I sent upstairs earlier. I asked the ladies to stop over and over again and finally I told them that if they did not stop that I would call the police and have them escorted out of the building. They still did not stop. They went on and on, so I called the police because they were being disruptive. There were also five other residents and their children in the shelter at the time. The factors that I had to consider was that if the two women would have went to jail their children would have went to DCFS. I had no choice because when I asked them to stop, they did not listen. I could not let them put themselves or the other residents in danger. The values that led me to make my decision was that I was always taught to do what is right and that if someone is in danger to get help. The ladies was impacted by my decision because when the police arrived he told them that if they continued, and he had to come back again that he would arrest both of them. The outcome was that the ladies were not arrested, they calmed down and went to their rooms and the rest of the night went...

... Making sure no one was in sight on the street I made my move. The plan was simple show up at the old lady's house, put signs that I printed the before on her door. I recalled the day my family and I moved in, the old lady next door torment us, told rumors about us, and worst of all she despised us! Not only us but almost everyone in Heidelberg! One of the signs read, Do not hail to Hitler! His ways will kill us! And the next morning when the sun rose everyone would see that she is anti Hitler, putting her in jail, and finally me and my family would be free from her torment. Looking down below from my roof was very...

...very large windows with green shutters (normally painted grey), walls painted pink to blend with a pergola covered with climbing roses and Virginia creeper (North American grapevine). There were 3 entrances to the house, to the left was Monet’s apartment and studio, the main entrance was in the middle, and the kitchen on the right. A sitting room where Mrs. Monet would sit with the children were all adorning in blue. Monet collected many pieces of Japanese woodblocks to decorate several rooms in the house. From the pantry to the upper floor is Monet’s apartment with three large windows with views to his beautiful gardens. Monet’s first studio, which later became his smoking room, is where we would entertain his guest, art dealers, critics, and collectors. He kept many records of his works through his career in his studio. It wasn’t until the age of 50 that he was finally recognized as a master. Alice’s bedroom is separate from his, that is the way the middle-upper class households were then. But their rooms were connected through the bathroom (hmmm, they weren’t stupid). Her room also had Japanese woodblocks on the walls. Wow! The dining room looks contemporary to today’s style. Two tones of yellow, blue dishes on display to enhance (once again) Japanese woodblocks on the walls that Monet collected from the best Japanese artist during his time. A cool blue dining area flows and harmonizes with the kitchen; with a collection of copper utensil on the walls and a large wood/coal-burning...

...task. 2) Under what circumstances would you turn off effort driven scheduling? One circumstance would be with complex tasks. These require highly skilled resources or are very complex in general. In this case, adding more tasks would slow down the team rather then speeding it up. Another circumstance is when there is a uncertain or undetermined amount of work for a task. 3) Use a real-world example of when you would make a task as a Fixed Duration type task? An example of this if you needed to use a painter to paint the bedroom of a house for 4 days, which would be a grand total of 32 hours. The other painter broke his arm and is unable to paint the second bedroom so you need to assign the same painter to room number two. You can assign the task of the second room to the painter as part time (50%), a total of 16 hours. 4) What is the formula for calculating duration? Duration = work/units 5) What are the eight preset work contours (hint: In the Task Usage view right click on a resource name an open the assignment information box) and what are the procedures in applying them to a resource on a task? (1) Flat- This is a default contour that has an even distribution of work (2) Back-loaded- This sets the peak activity to happen at the end of the project. (3) Front-loaded- This sets the peak activity to happen at the beginning of the project. (4) Double peak- This sets the project to have two major period of peak activity. (5) Early peak- This sets a loaded contour...

...It is amazing how the simple things can mean the most to children. My childhood glimmers with memories of bubble wrap, playing under the sprinklers, visits to grandmothers house and a solitary teddy bear. In the days before iPods, before computers were a necessity, there existed a world where every day was just another day in paradise and the aim was to explore as much as possible as quickly as possible. I, along with my twin sister and older brother lived in this world of imagination as children. To us, our house represented the whole world. I remember the day we had to say farewell to it. I stand in the garden. Our backyard was the place of many of our adventures. It was a child’s dream. In those days our garden was green with life and smelled of summer all year long. A brick path weaved through the luscious grass in a snake like fashion, and garden beds strategically placed around the edges of the path dotted the scene like blotches of colour in an impressionists painting. Images flash from the depths of my mind. To the left was where we had discovered the family of ducks that decided to settle into our swimming pool. Over on the concrete was where the three of us had formed a band with tennis racket guitars. To the right was where I had lost my tooth amongst the omniscient red bricks of the driveway. Memories of lessons learned come forth. At the end of the path stands a tree. Short in stature but potent in the fruit that it bears. Mangos. When I was about nine my brother...
