Assistant coaching my daughters summer cheer camp Life Event 1 (The birth of my daughter): Ever since I was a child playing with my barbie dolls I always imagined that I would be a mom one day. On January 14, 2009 I gave birth to my beautiful baby girl and ever since my life has forever been altered. Giving birth for me was a multi-dimensional experience, emotional, physical, cultural, and spiritual. Becoming a mother at 22 years old was a peak experience in my life that made be grow up faster. After becoming a mother I felt a sense of maturity and self –fulfillment. Childbirth for me was both scary and joyous all at once. I was scared because I didn’t know what to expect but at the same time excited to meet this human that I had part in creating. Once she came into this world instantly there was a special bond I shared with my daughter. Life Event 2 (Joining the military): The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 played a major factor in my joining the military. After the events I remember just being devastated and just wanting to support the troops. In joining the military for me I wanted to help...

...in your life, then you have no choice but to be fair and honest about your business decisions. Business decisions can sometimes be difficult and harsh, but that is no reason to comprise the integrity of what you believe in. In 2012, Summers & Summers concluded that from the “Christian worldview”, God is the source and creator of all things. This means that God has provided all the resources we need in order for those needs to be satisfied. Our task is to use these resources properly. (pp. 30). Psalms 24:1 tells us “The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters” (NIV). To what extent do your personal religious (or non-religious) beliefs about life impact your sense of business ethics and personal decision-making? The extent of my owm personal religious beliefs about life impacted my sense of business ethics and personal decicion-making. As a new Revenue Agent for the Internal Revenue Service, my on-the-job trainer told me to always assume the taxpayer was a liar. I was not able to do that. I always let the records speak for themselves and I counted on my good and Godly instincts to lead me to the right decisions. On a personal level, I pray and ask for guidance in my decisionmaking. Does it seem odd to connect every belief we have about life back to what we believe about God? No, it does not seem odd to me to connect every belief we have about life back to what...

...It was that time of year again. The time when all of my family longed to get away for the summer. Getting away, however, never presented a question as to where we would be getting away to. We always knew. The Cabin stood just smack dab in the middle of nowhere. No one else in the world truly knew where the middle of nowhere was, but my family did. Surrounded by enormous, towering pine trees and at the end of the longest road in Texas, stood our humble cabin. Every time we came to spend another summer there, The Cabin seemed to say, “Welcome back y’all!” Nothing could ever get in the way of spending our summer at The Cabin. This battered cabin had been in the family for years, and my parents wanted to continue the tradition of visiting every...

...monuments and museums, great food, world-famous nightlife, etc. have made Greece the place to be in the summer. My past summers in Greece led me to stereotype the country as a forever sunny, always happy, place to be, while Athens specifically was stereotyped as a large city with palm trees, endless heat and sun, and countless ancient sites. While living in Athens for the past four months, the stereotype of Athens has changed dramatically. Yet, it has not at all become negative. Instead it has led to even better stereotypes in my case. In the past, my experiences with Athens have been minimal in terms of places visited and things done. The old and new places visited during these four months have changed in terms of the emotional feelings for them and the experiences that occurred in those various places. One specific aspect that has changed is my attitude towards graffiti. The previous stays in Athens over the years have been short, lasting only a week at the most. My overall opinion of graffiti had been negative, considering it an unappealing, low-class aspect of urban life. Yet, recently this opinion has faded away, now considering graffiti as a way of life and an art that expresses ideas and values, based on Jeff Ferrell’s Urban Graffiti: Crime, Control, and Resistance. Like the Graffiti example, my attitudes towards several aspects of Athens have changed. However, I will be focusing on specific places rather than ideas. A first example is The Mall. Located...

...Paper : (500) Days of Summer Have you ever fallen in love or dated someone? If so (500) Days of Summer will appeal to you. It is a Fox Searchlight Pictures production, Marc Webb is the name of the chief director, and the cast includes Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Tom Hansen and Zooey Deschanel as Summer Finn. The film was released on 7th August 2009. For some people who have not watched the film, I would strongly recommend them to watch. Regardless of gender, I am sure that anyone who has had an experience of a relationship or love could sincerely sympathize with the story of the film. As the movie progresses, the audience can see emotional growth in Tom, disbelief about destined events, and a change of mind in Summer Finn about love and relationship. The movie starts with the narrator’s saying “this is a story that a boy meets a girl.”, and a scene shows Summer is putting her hand over Tom’s hand and smiling. According to the narrator, Summer is just another girl of average except she wasn’t. Tom meets Summer on January 8th, finding her from 400,000 office buildings, 91,000 commercial buildings and 3.8 million which can be explained by a word, “fate”. When Tom meets Summer on the first day, he feels that Summer is the one who he has been looking for. On the 4th day, Tom meets Summer in elevator and Summer shows an interest in music, she likes Smiths which Tom was listening. On the 8th day, during the company party celebrating Millie’s engagement, Tom and Summer had a conversation...

...Every summer since I was eleven years old, I attended a church camp called Camp Capers in Waring, Texas. From tubing in the Guadalupe River to sitting next to your date on Bonfire Night, it has become my second home. It’s located in the country where the stars are magnificent and the sounds of obnoxious crickets become heaven to your ears. Camp Capers is filled with joy and love and brings wonderful gifts to the campers as it brings the children of God closer to Him. Not only has Camp Capers touched my life, but the staff, counselors, and campers who experience these incredible weeks with me have also. Campers are constantly surrounded by Christians who adore God’s goodness and who also adore each other. Every summer I’m touched and inspired by each and every person, either because of the person’s stories or because I see the growth of spirituality that God is working in them today. But one counselor and teacher will always have that special place in my heart, and her name is Sarah Cozad. My first year as a camper, I was blessed to have Sarah Cozad as my counselor in cabin fourteen. Her energy and genuine kindness made me feel welcomed and comfortable from the moment I met her. Throughout my first week, I was nervous and self-conscious because I did not know anyone and it was my first time away from home without my parents. One night after chapel and all the activities were finished, we had a cabin gathering called Devotions. Sarah told us to write one thing we were insecure...

...beach chair, swimming in the ocean, eating funnel cakes on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, or building formidable sand castles. That was not the case for the summer of my sophomore year. In the summer of my sophomore year, I joined eleven other students on a Habitat for Humanity service trip in Wilmington, Delaware as a volunteer to build and repair houses ready for families in need of shelter. I can remember this service trip with much clarity for three reasons: it was the first trip out-of-state without my family, it taught me that hard work for building houses began with determined physical labor, and it changed me as a person....

...I would like to take part in the Bridges summer program because I’m a dedicated, determined and ambitious student that wants to get a head start in college. I have taken on the task of graduating a year early so I can go above and beyond my education in the field I would like to pursue. The Bridges summer program helps me start on a higher level than my peers who might also be going into Computer Science. I have also heard about the great and beneficial opportunities that I could have if I go to Valencia before starting off at the University of Central Florida. It’s a great opportunity to use my summers for something other than sitting behind the computer playing games or sleeping… although those things sound great and like a fun way to spend...

...Soccer has impacted my life through the years in more ways than one. I've never really sat down and thought about how much my daily routine was different from a normal girls life. At times it didn't benefit me the ways I wanted it to because it has taken so much time off of my social life and school work. Even though I have been doing this for most of my life I am still learning the right way to do “school”. The first time I took an interest in soccer was at the age of seven. Just looking at the amount of joy it brought my brother's faces when coming home from a game had me wanting to achieve the same thing. I didn't put much thought into my future in soccer until I was about ten years old. Both my brothers were on their way to play college soccer and I started to look at soccer as something other than a hobby but as a passion....

...down every thought and feeling, in hopes to perhaps give the reader chills. They feel so into it like it is their own thought or their own feeling. Also, being a strong literate person, to me, is going into a horrible situation and coming out 10 times stronger and more motivated. Personally, I do not really have a list of individuals that made a big enough significance in my life to change it. Well, no one except my daughter. I believe my Daughter, Sophia, made me a more literate person. Having her was a huge, meaningful event that shaped me into who I am today. It all started summer of 2012. I had just graduated high school that June. I knew I had to go to college, but wasn’t really that into it. I just knew that it had to happen because my mom and grandma had always said I had to go to college to get anywhere in life. The summer I graduated I didn’t really go wild or party hard like everyone else had. The craziest thing I did was go to a club called “Pulse Nightclub”. Summer flew by and August was just around the corner, so I applied at NKU. I decided to go into the nursing program because once again my mom and grandma said I had to. I ended up not having a high enough GPA to get into the program. I took some general education...

...Coming Back Nancy Bee Zhao, in her article in The Sun Magazine, describes how her outlook of her life changed after a two month trip to Mexico. When she came home from her extended stay in Mexico she was surprised about how differently she lived than she had in Mexico. Everything was gigantic and seemingly perfect, but it also lacked the liveliness, dancing, and music. Coming home made her realize how differently she lived. “I saw who I was for the first time: rich, secure, naive, American” Zhao explains. My family travels every summer and I have seen quite a bit of the world, but I have alway been sheltered by my parents. The summer of 2007 I took a trip to Turkey to visit family. Before my trip I had never really experienced culture shock before. Life in Turkey was so different from anything I had experienced. The food was amazingly tasty, exploding with exotic flavors. The people and my family were incredibly kind and generous, even if they had nothing. The bazaars were astounding. So many people crowded together under giant canopies with stands overflowing with goods, yelling louder than the next vender to catch your attention. Swarms of people walking around rushing to get their shopping done while the old men sit in the shade drinking their small cups of black tea chatting up a storm. At the outside of the bazaar, beggars call out to the tourists hoping for some spare change. “Coming home was a shock,” Zhao analyzes. Every time I come home from a trip I marvel at...

...Throughout my high school career, I believed that make mistakes was an example of failure. This extended through my academic and social life. Conducting research helped me to understand that science and life in general, is a trial and error process. Initially I became frustrated when my experiments did not produce the intended outcomes. However, overtime I realized that the reality was that research required patience and perseverance. Making mistakes allows researchers and people in general, to learn from their mistakes and improve for the future. This was a powerful lesson that I believe will benefit me for throughout my entire career at UMBC and beyond. Despite the challenges I face as a student and eventually a professional, it is important to continue to push through the disappointments. I was given the research opportunity to help with a research project, but I believe that the experience helped me more then the organization. It helped to build my personal confidence after past difficulties in my science courses during my college career. I realized that a mistake was not an example of failure, but instead a lesson to help strengthen an individual for the future....
