Could you imagine what life would be like if you were forced to follow everyone’s expectations and traditions while living in the constant fear of others forcing you to leave your home? This was what life was like for the characters in the play Fiddler on the Roof by Joseph Stine, performed by Stockdale High School. The play explores the traditions, activities, events, and horrors of life for the Jewish community during 1905 in Anatevka, a small village in Russia. There were many terrible occurrences the community had to endure, but they got through it all with the help of their traditions. However, one family’s daughters break the traditions and decide to go their own way, with or without the approval of their father. This eye-opening play takes the audience on a journey through unbelievable…show more content… For instance, a demon had come on stage for one scene when Tevye was having a dream. This helped create the mood because the demon used her voice in order to portray a real demon. The acting during the scene was amazing and helped set the mood for the rest of the act. Furthermore, during another scene, depressing music was being played in the background while Tevye was disowning one of his daughters, Chava, for marrying someone outside the Jewish faith. The background music helped set the mood because it evoked extra emotion, along with the scene itself, from the audience. While the scene was extremely saddening and emotional, the music added to the overall effect of the scene. To wrap up, the acting, lighting, and the music contributed to the many moods portrayed throughout the play.
Finally, the many different characteristics that the characters portrayed helped make the play eventful as well as hilarious. For example, Tevye was slightly afraid of his wife throughout the play. This contributed to the comedic factor of the play because
