In the second half of Just Add Hormones: An insider’s guide to the transsexual experience by Matt Kailey (2005), the author expands on his experience as a transman and the importance of the voices of transsexuals to create a more friendly environment for those who differ from mainstream society. A significant point from the passage was the topic of same sex marriage. Kailey (2005) highlight the controversy of same sex marriage through the transsexual point of view by stating,
The reality is that no matter what laws are put into place to prevent gay men and lesbians from experiencing what our society considers to be the highest form of love and commitment, transpeople, whether assimilated or not, will make sure that there are "gay marriages"

What to Eat When You'Re Broke Response

...Daphne S. Dela Cruz 2/15/14 HE 150 Section 1 What to Eat when you’re Broke First off, I would like to honestly say I thought this was some kind of article I would not be interested in and would probably read it without taking any consideration and just winging this summary. But no, as I started reading this article, I realized that I was taking in what the author, Daisy Luther was talking about. She actually answered a bunch of questions that I always had coming and going in my mind about nutritional facts, junk food, healthy food, etc. There were words I did not understand so like what Ms. Sara said, I googled it to have a better understanding of the article. I am really angered at these companies that add such disgusting and unhealthy “ingredients” into the food that most people buy. But I also believe that I should be angry at myself and others for being careless to not read food labels to educate ourselves more on the dangers of what we consume in our bodies. I may also like to add about the video my class and I watched last week about the mom talking about nutrition and a lot of other things to, it angers me so much how America the supposedly, “greatest country in the world” actually allows some food, snacks, & drinks to be legal when a lot aren’t proven to not do harm to your body! And we have a bunch of other countries that actually do make them illegal; I mean what’s up with that America?! I remember reading in chapter one how the top three leading causes of...

Ethics

...Medical Ethics PHL 399 Summary # 3 Jeannie Taylor The topics encountered for this week’s readings involved stem cells, cloning of animals, the debate of human cloning, and gene therapy. Some terms that were new to me included: nascent, which basically means to be born; hubris which means full of pride; meliorist, which is a human’s effect on societal improvement; and the term despotism, meaning complete power or authority. In the reading on the President’s Council on Bioethics the council agreed that reproductive cloning was unacceptable. However it was not unanimous on therapeutic cloning. Majority of the council recommended a four year moratorium on research cloning and the remaining members recommended regulations of cloned embryos in research. A moral case for cloning for biomedical research is to provide possibilities of treating diseases. Research is limited to fourteen day old embryos that would be created to provide a good service for life and medicine. A moral case against cloning refers to embryos being treated as raw material solely to fulfill our own needs. There is also great concern of possibly causing harm to society by crossing reproduction margins and/or ruin to nascent human life. The four year moratorium hopes to provide some firm policies on cloning and allow time for a well researched and judicious decision to be attained. The central moral issue from the case of Dolly, the cloned sheep, is whether it is morally acceptable to clone...

...explain how a gall stone can migrate into the pancreas, causing pancreatitis. The pancreas is in the upper abdomen and lies behind the stomach and intestines. It makes a fluid that contains enzymes that are needed to digest food. The enzymes are made in the pancreatic cells and are passed into tiny tubes. These tubes join together to form the main pancreatic duct. This drains the enzyme-rich fluid into the duodenum. The enzymes are in an inactive form in the pancreas, they are 'activated' in the duodenum to digest food. Groups of special cells called 'Islets of Langerhans' are scattered throughout the pancreas. These cells make the hormones insulin and glucagon. The hormones are secreted directly into the bloodstream to control the blood sugar level. The bile duct carries bile from the liver and gallbladder. This joins the pancreatic duct just before it opens into the duodenum. Bile also passes into the duodenum and helps to digest food. Pancreatitis occurs when the pancreas becomes inflamed. When pancreatitis occurs, it's largely due to digestive enzymes attacking and digesting the pancreas, which produced them in the first place. There are two types of pancreatitis: Acute pancreatitis - when the inflammation develops quickly, over a few days or so. It often goes away completely and leaves no permanent damage. Sometimes it is serious. Chronic pancreatitis - when the inflammation is persistent. The inflammation tends to be less intense than acute pancreatitis but...

...CHAPTER I INTRODUCTION I. IMPORTANCE OF THE STUDY This study was conducted to produce an alternative source of vinegar out of banana peel. It is very convenient because the Philippineshave an abundant plantation of banana plant. Our country grows many different varieties of bananas. Rather than throwing the banana peelings in the waste or tossing them in a compost bin, we can use them to make an alternative source of vinegar. The result of this study is significant to the society. Nowadays, almost all products have increased their prices. So when the time comes that the branded vinegar we’re using at home also increases its price we don’t have to worry because we already have an alternative source of vinegar.Aside from that, you can also earn money by introducing this product to your friends or neighbors. CHAPTER II RELATED LITERATURE BANANA A banana is an edible fruit produced by several kinds of large herbaceous flowering plants in the genus Musa. (In some countries, bananas used for cooking may be called plantains.) The fruit is variable in size, color and firmness, but is usually elongated and curved, with soft flesh rich in starchcovered with a rind which may be green, yellow, red, purple, or brown when ripe. The fruits grow in clusters hanging from the top of the plant. Almost all modern edible parthenocarpic (seedless) bananas come from two wild species – Musa acuminata and Musa balbisiana. Musa species are native to tropical Indomalaya and Australia...

Thesis on Laughter

...CHAPTER 2 REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES Foreign literature This chapter presents the review of related literature and studies for both foreign and local underlying the framework of the study. Synthesis was also created based from the gathered information and facts in literature and studies. These studies will also the researchers and readers to understand their study more. This will give greater information about how laughter slows down aging. According to Adams (2005) Laughter is a healing activity. Laughter operates on at least three different levels. They are the biophysical, the biochemical, and the bioenergetic levels. At the biophysical level, laughter also moves lymph and oxygenates your organs. Laughter moves lymph fluid around your body simply by the convulsions you experience during the process of laughing; so it boosts immune system function and helps clear out old, dead waste products from organs and tissues. Remember that your lymph system doesn't have a separate pump; your body needs to move around to properly circulate lymph fluid so that your immune system can carry out its natural functions. Laughter is a great way to support that. Secondly, laughter increases oxygenation of your body at both the cellular and organ level. By laughing, you intake vast amounts of oxygen in huge gulps, and you repeat this process in a sort of temporary hyperventilation session. This is the natural result of laughter, and if you watch someone laugh, you...

...Health 1: Electronic literature Search Bone Formation Absence of bone sialoprotein (BSP) impairs primary bone formation and resorption: the marrow ablation model under PTH challenge. Wade-Gueye NM, Boudiffa M, Vanden-Bossche A, Laroche N, Aubin JE, Vico L, Lafage-Proust MH, Malaval L. Source: INSERM U1059/SFR IFRESIS, F42023, Saint-Etienne, France. Abstract: Bone sialoprotein (BSP) is highly expressed in early bone deposition and may play a part in primary bone mineralization. We previously showed that while BSP−/− mice have a mild secondary bone phenotype and are responsive to mechanical (unloading) and hormonal (ovariectomy, parathyroid hormone (PTH)) challenges, repair of a cortical bone defect, which involves primary bone deposition is significantly delayed in these mice. In the present study, we investigated the role of BSP in a pure model of primary bone modeling. Bone marrow was ablated by trans-epiphysis aspiration in the femora of BSP+/+ and BSP−/− mice, and 7 days post surgery μCT analysis showed vigorous new bone formation in the shaft of BSP+/+ animals but much less in BSP−/− mice. After 14 days, the volume of medullary bone was significantly decreased as expected in BSP+/+ mice, while it remained stable in the BSP−/−. Osteoid thickness and surface were higher in BSP−/− at day 7, suggesting delayed mineralization, while osteoclast surface and number were significantly lower at day 14, a stage of high medullary bone resorption. At day 7, mRNA expression...
