Do you believe that juveniles should ever be tried as adults? If so, in what situations and why? That question that was put forth to fifteen different people in a survey. Along with the survey, several articles related to the question were researched This survey and the research on the articles was done in order to gather enough information to present both sides of this issue. The results show that almost all of the fifteen people had very similar responses. The articles that were relative to this question offered very good arguments for both sides. Fourteen of the fifteen people surveyed immediately responded by saying that it all depended on the seriousness of the crime committed. For the more serious crimes such as murder, rape, and any other crime that results in the victim being harmed, it was almost unanimous that yes, the juvenile should be tried as an adult. The results of the survey showed that fourteen out of the fifteen people felt that an individual capable of committing such crimes should be tried as adults. Should Juveniles Ever Be Tried as Adults?
There has been much research and discussion regarding this question. ...Juvenile Crime Paper CJS/200 When speaking about the similarities and differences between adult and juvenile court there are many of both. The same process applies between the two of them but the main difference are ways the person can be sentenced, constitutional rights, and the things that they will talk about while in the court room. Another difference between the two is when talking about juvenile court and the precautions that come from that. Youth jails are more for rehabilitating the youth and making them see what they did wrong rather than forcing harsh punishment on them. Adults have the right to be tried by a judge or a jury of peers, in juvenile court it would be the judge making the decision on what the punishment would be. When talking about juvenile court there are a lot of times where the parent must get involved because the child is underage. The guardians might be questioned wanting to know whether they had any idea of what was going on with their child. The judge might want a youth’s parent to do something like monitor what is going on with their child and making sure there following what they are supposed to be doing. Juveniles also do not have an option to post bail unlike adults. When a child is in a detention center they are in there for how long they are appointed for, they are not able to post bail in order to get out before that date. Adults have the right to post bail if they are eligible for it. There...

Juvenile Crime Paper Final

...Juvenile Crime Paper Rochelle Gordon CJS/200 December 1, 2012 Dave Ross Juvenile Crime Paper In the juvenile justice system believes in giving a juvenile a second chance, and protects their privacy. They also want to make sure they receive treatment and support services rather than just punishment. The juvenile system focuses more on their needs, and those goals are met with treatment and rehabilitation so they won’t become repeat offenders. After a juvenile completes their program their records can be sealed or destroyed once they reach 18. The juvenile system status in question is to determine delinquency, whether an act of was violated or not. The system also wants to make sure the best interest of the child is taken into consideration, regardless if they are guilty or innocent. For the most part when a child is in custody and pending the hearing, they may be released into the custody of a parent or guardian. Juveniles have closed hearings instead of a trial. The right to a jury does not exist. A juvenile is not arrested; they are taken into custody from an order by the judge or complaint. Usually juveniles are only incarcerated with other youth offenders and in juvenile facilities. In the adult court system the status question for adults is to determine guilt or innocence. The goal for adult proceedings is to determine offender’s guilt or innocence. Pending a trial, an adult can be released through bail, or on their own recognizance. Adult trials are...

Juvenile Delinquency Paper

...Causes of Deliquency Essay Heather Ross CRJ340 Juvenile Deliquency Dr. George Ackerman August 10, 2014 Siegmund Feud as well as Bowlby and Ainsworth, Glueck and Glueck all developed Attachment theories connecting delinquency to early childhood detachments from parents, or difficulties that were not conquered during childhood. These theories surmise that there is a connection between personality formation in childhood and that of subsequent criminal behavior. Freud believed that mental disturbances triggered by dissention between the id, ego and superego influence criminality – or inappropriate fixations during one of the stages of development. The id is a part of the unconscious that holds all the urges, impulses including the libido. The id limits response to the pleasure principle – meaning if it feels good do it – and does not respond to anything else – it is like a “devil” on a person’s shoulder goading them to do the wrong thing. The ego is the solitary part of the conscious personality. The awareness of when a person thinks about themselves and what they try to project to others is their ego. It is dominated by the reality principle and acts as a perpetual mediator to demands of the id and prohibitions of the superego. The superego is a part of the unconscious that is the “angel” on a person’s shoulder acting as the voice of conscience and also the origin of self-criticism. Freud suggested that we go through several stages of development that are motivated...

...location they all face the same battle. This battle is ever going and leaves law enforcement asking how do I stop this crime from happening again? Like most problem they begin as acute, but eventually turn into something much bigger and become ongoing. The juvenile court system has been developed to handle crimes within juveniles and develop a system to help combat crimes from its lowest and earliest stage. Juvenile crime rate is on the rise and more and more violent crimes are happening daily within juvenile’s Society today is shaping children and young adults into accepting violence as the “norm” and is allowing children to think it is acceptable to commit these crimes daily. Recently the “knock out” game swept across the country. These was a “game” played by young adults and juveniles where they targeted defenseless individuals walking the streets and would sneak up on them and strike them in the face. The goal of this so-called “game” was to knock the person unconscious with one strike to the head or face area. This alone tells me that there is a problem with violence among young adults today. Crimes like this happen daily and the popularity of violent crimes and drugs has grown among teens. The problem with a lot of juveniles that commit these crimes is simply lack of guidance. Unfortunately there are many broken homes and children being raised by single parents. When the parents go to work these individuals are left alone this sometimes leads to them making the wrong decisions...

Youth who become involved in the court system, either by spending time in the court system, either by spending time in juvenile detention facilities or by participating in risky behavior, require services unique to their situation. According to "Juvenile Defense Lawyer" (2014), "If your child is arrested, there is no right to bond in juvenile law cases in the State of Texas. Technically, your child temporarily becomes a ward of the state and is not considered to be in custody. After your child is detained initially, he or she does have a right to a 72-hour detainer hearing where we can fight to get your child out and put into your custody. (para. 2). The common perception of the public is that juvenile offenders are of color. One would wonder why this is the perception, it is said that based off of the geographical area of most young blacks and their social class that they are more likely than whites to end up in the system, This is not the case. Although it is a stereo-type that due to most of the African American teens being raised in a single parent home that it would be more likely for them to end up in the system. ...Juvenile Crime Statistics Paper As Mohandas Gandhi a spiritual leader once said, "If we are to teach real peace in this world, and if we are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children." These words speak the truth about where we need to start, concerning making the world a better and safer place. Crimes are committed each day by juvenile offenders. To get a better understanding of why crimes are simply committed by young people we have to evaluate the trends. Decrease Based on the juvenile arrests there was a decrease the previous years of 3%. What makes one human more interesting and marketable compared to the next? A human being can be “intersectionally” classified by race and class just based off gender. Race and class are not only verifications justified on a driver’s license and country club application background checks, but actually form and shape gender roles even in today’s so called “equal rights” society.
