When I started to read the article article La Conciencia de la Mestiza by Gloria Anzaldua, I had a different idea of what I though the article was going to be about at first I though the article was going to focus on what it means to belong to two ethnic or racial categories so I though I was not going to be able to identify myself with this article since both of my parents and I were born on the same country (Ecuador). Surprisingly for me, I was able to identify myself at some point with this article. The article stated that “La mestiza is a product of the transfer of the cultural and spiritual values of one group to another…Like others having or living in more than one culture, we get multiple, often opposing messages…She learns to be an …show more content…
Even though both of my parents and I were born in the same country, I was still able to identify myself with this article because there have been many times when I find myself transferring from one culture to another culture. For example, here in the United States when I am asked for my nationality I say Ecuadorian, and when I go to Ecuador I attempt to identify myself as Ecuadorian because I was born there, but it is sad to see that people; even my family who lives on Ecuador doesn’t see me as a “real” Ecuadorian, because there has been time when they are talking about something that is going on in Ecuador such as political or other, and I try to join their conversation but they attempt to somehow not include me on their conversation because according to them I wouldn’t be able to know because I don’t live there. This is sad for me because even though I been in the United States for more than 10 years, I still don’t feel like this is my country. I do love living in the US, I see this country as a country full of opportunities and even though I am a US citizen I still feel more identify with Ecuador then the US, but unfortunately even though I consider myself as a real Ecuadorian the reality is that every time I go to Ecuador I feel like I don’t belong
